  • @wholtone you first. You're one of those "beer guys" who criticize without anything constructive. Especially over something as petty as spraying star san out of a bottle. I can just see you on beer advocate listing what beers are over rated, or why a beer isn't as good as it should be. If you know what's wrong with everything make your own instructional videos and distribute your own beer.

  • This is done wonderfully. I didn't know Wes Anderson made instructional homebrewing videos.

  • Are those german goggle ? And were did you get them from cuz I gotta get me a pair LOL of them cool goggles!!!!!!!!

  • P.S. Next time you aerate think of choking wholtone;))!

  • The best(fun) video I have watched for yeast starters. I laughed all the way through it, that is the best way to learn! Sharpshooters(critics) another word for jealous! Lighten up and enjoy!

  • so my biology teacher showed this to my class today and i couldn't concentrate properly cos this guy ^ is so beautiful :O <3

  • @piranhacrossing123 sounds like the best biology class ever if the teacher showed you this. im glad you enjoyed ..... him. hahaarrrrr

  • fun vid. putting the stopper on during boil is something I have never thought of, looks like it helps prevent boil over. I will give it a try next time.

I agree with the comments on not using an air lock for your yeast starter, just sanitized foil to cover.

    great job!

  • A couple things. 1. Why are you spraying your hand with sanitizer? Wear rubber gloves if you insist on being that careful. I personally prefer filling a bucket with sanitizer and dropping everything in there rather than spraying, then fishing it out and drying it after two mins. 2. Why is the bung in the flask during boil? Doesn't seem necessary and likely to build up some unnecessary pressure in the flask. 3. I would mix (aerate) for longer than that. Shake violently for a minute or so.

  • @wholtone Sounds like you already know what you are doing so this video seems a little useless for you in the first place. Thanks for your opinions though.

  • @wholtone You should shut up. Let people do things how they do them. Especially since nothing you said will help anyone.

  • @EricDMott Fuck off.

  • More!

  • This is bizarre... I was just about to look for another recap/howto on making a starter and came upon this on reddit of all places

. I'll be attempting my 2nd batch within the next few days, and this will be my first starter. Oddly enough, I'll even be using the same yeast (Nottingham).

  • Great instructions. Great cinematography. The goggles take it over the top though!!!

  • This was a fun watch! I really like how you show sanitizing everything thoroughly.

    I would add these tips:

    1. Don't use an airlock for a yeast starter. If you insist on using an airlock, fill it with cheap vodka instead of water.

    2. Before adding yeast, chill the starter wort, and decant the clear wort off the trub into another vessel.

    Thanks for posting!

  • This is the best cinematography I have seen in an amateur, how-to-homebrew video I have ever seen. It reminded me a lot of Wes Anderson. Great job!!

  • Love it, Dana looks like a mad scientist with those goggles!
