So he firstly says commercial heat pads are unnecessary but then goes on to add an unnecessary piece of equipment (from his pet store) that would heat up faster than the mat and uses UV light? :|
@Dominik961223 ok i see people like u saying that the expertvillage are wrong i want to have a gecko could please tell me what to buy or how to set everything up thank u
ok if you have just got a gecko put the heating on one side and the water on the other not heating on both sides because if it gets to hot they turn around and go to the other side and two homes so they can have a heated home and a cool home and the cool home have humited in there.
its questionable that he's an "expert" with leopard geckos. he is using aspen for his leopard geckos. look at my videos and see that floor tiles work a lot better. also i don't use a heat matt because they wear out easily. and since leopard geckos are nocturnal, they don't need UVA/UVB. and 3-4 hrs of daylight? umm no, 12 hours of light. lastly, where's his nightlight?
i have a night glow and EXTRA SMALL heat pad. i don't have a thermometer, so im not sure if that enough heat. i barely keep the night glow on in the day, but i always keep the heat pad on. the thing is, its REALLY small, maybe 4 inches long and 3 inches wide. is that enough heat?
Bullshit. Heat pad one one side, and heat lamp on the other = no temperature gradient, and that means stressed/not eating Gecko. Expert village? More like uneducated, shameless advertising douche village.
"Johan Svahnström has been working with reptiles and amphibian for over 20 years." - i assume he works with them for a VERY short time before he buries them
omfg he dosnt even realize that heat rocks and mats have auto theremometre thing that turns them off when it gets to hot and turns back on when it cool belive me i got a rock that has this theremometre thing on it
yesterday i got a gecko and he is great but he doesnt eat i dont know what will i do if he dies. please tell me what to do temperature is 86 i dust the crickets with some mineral dust he has a fat tail he looks healthy and i handle my gecko often a few hours a day if you have any advice tell me please! :(
i have a 10 year old leopard gecko he´s never haved any company by another gecko and i want another one can i putt a baby leopard in his terrarium will he eat if it´s a girl ? please answer
he has no idear he put a heat pad insted of a heat mat + he put a heat lamp on the other end how dus the gecko get away from the heat? what a dumb ass
leopard geckos do not need over head heat at all! they cant feel heat above them they get thier belly heat. so keep the belly temp around 84 - 92 put the thermostat just above the substrate so they can bask there.
@Omg1tsKyle yes if you want will do a video about come to our page Subscribe Rate Comment and if you want us to do a video about just ask and will try are best.
what a clown! whatever he does, you just do the opposite: don't put heat sources on both sides, don't use loose substrate, don't mess them up by switching the light on and off. also, that heat mat covers too much of the bottom of the tank and i don't see any moist hide in there
i dont know much about geckos but how it works with most reptiles is you just hold them alot and if they start acting up just hold them firmly and they will eventually learn your the boss
i use a red light bulb so it dose not piss them off and they thinks its night time most of the time so they are very actice when i get my camera ill make a video
yep XD correct. i have 6. all you neeed it a red bulb as a 24 hour heat source ( they call them infrared - thats bullshit, you cant see infrared light - so its just red light lol. thats it to do with the heat appart from the thermostats e.t.c. i dont think heat mats do a very good job but thats my opinon.
how hot does it get inside? you should buy a heat ROCK which is like a heat pad. but better. heat rocks sit inside the terrarium and give the gecko a better source of heat.. buy a thermometer and look at the reading if its in the 30's then youshould be alright, but you will need one for winter.
yea its fine i use woodchips as substrate for my leopard gecko and shes fine but if you already have substrate and she doesnt eat it or it isnt reptile carpet then keep that
Paper towel is the best substrate. Anything else (sand or the like) can cause impactions in its stomach when it snaps at its food. And I wouldn't use woodchips it harbors too much bacteria
i got my 20 galon long for 26 dallors but the tank was origanolly $31.00 but i got a $5.00 discount. if your looking for good quality in supplies and good prices go to petsmart.
not really.. you don't need UVA/UVB for a Gecko, and that substrate is terrible. And he put two heat sources on either side of the tank. The gecko will have no where to go to cool. He says not to have a constant light source for more than 3-4hrs, that would confuse the animal, you need constant 12hr light. And to top it all I see no humid box in there. Arggg idiots call themselves experts.
its a shame that beginner 'herpers' (my made up word :P) will think this is the correct way to keep them, all you really need is the heat mat on 24/7 and a ceramic heater (to keep air temp up) no lighting really required you could use a desk lamp if your really wanted .....
Okay well I've had a leo for 4 years, she's helthy and all, but I haven't tooken care of her the way I should I also switched sand to carpet and should'nt you have a cool side and a hot side?

is there such thing as a aquatic gecko, or a perminatly aquatic newt, because i am only allowed to have aquatic animals right now and i want a lizard so someone comment back please.
You need an under tank heater connected to a thermostat to keep the temperature anywhere between 88-92 on the warm side And they don't need UVA/B since they're nocturnal, they just need a regular day/night cycle. You also need a heat gradient so why would you put two heat sources on either side of the tank? And loose substrate, ugggh what an idiot! Whats next? Is he going to tell us that they eat vegetables?
right. I keep my 75 watt red heat bulb on 24/7 and my gecko is happy as hell lol. At night he sleps on the cool side where the moss is and at night he plays where the heat is. This guy doesn't know shit. The heat mat has a sticky surface where u stick it on one side of the tank and no u don't put a towel. U need 4 erasers that come w/ the heat mat and place them on the 4 corners of ur tank so heat can release. Ifu do whathe is doing then ur glass tank will crack and the whole floor will be hot.
Hey its me seth22342 my other account got mest up so i had to git a new one oh and i just got three geckos 2 adults and one bayby so cool oh and the baby is rilly mean oh and i found a heat pad rilly cool.
u can find them in petsstore like petsmart. Tell the workers and they will find one. Make sure that once u put it there don'y pull it out cause then u might cause a fir hazard. They really are necesarry since geckos use it to digest calcium. I keep mines on all the time.
Remember people, this video is for 'Gecko Lizards' which doesn't automatically Leo's. Now on the argument about UV lighiting all reptiles need some sort of way to absorb vitamins and calcium, to put this into way most will understand, You are told to keep a Bearded dragon with a UV light, yes?. Well you dont have to, aslong as the beardie is getting the calcium which could be through supplements. The recommended way is to use lights with Diurnal and supplements with Nocturnal.
Well, you're quite right about the loose substrate but UV light benefits all reptiles. UV light is necessary to synthesize vitamin D3, Leopard Geckos do need UV lights during the day. In nature Leos will often come out in the light evening in order to bask in the sunlight. Even if your lizard doesn't seem to be using the light, It's still a good idea to provide it.
You need an under tank heater connected to a thermostat to keep the temperature anywhere between 88-92 on the warm side. And they don't need UVA/B since they're nocturnal, they just need a regular day/night cycle. You also need a heat gradient so why would you put two heat sources on either side of the tank? my tank is a 15 gallon 24 inches (2 feet) lenght wide 12 inches 1.5 feet height 12 inches 1.5 feet. is the good for one female leopard gecko 9 inches long.
I USE A HUMAN HEAT PAD FOR BOTH OF MY LEOPARD GECKOS AND BOTH OF MINE ARE DOING GREAT. they dont get burned or any of that bullshit AND ITS ON 24 HOURS A DAY. IT STAYS ABOUT 85 ON THE WARM END
How do these people get on Expert Village? Are they even certified. This guy's an idiot. No one listen to anything he is saying. Find someone who knows what they are talking about.
wtf how come this guy makes it so complicated. you can always get a heat mat and get a light dimmer or a thermostat to prevent it from over heating instead of unpluging and repluging the heat mat several times a day
if he said u want them to be able to get away from the heat how come he put a heat pad on one end of the tank and a heat pad on the other omg its commen sense
Leopard geckos get BURNED by uvb. They never encounter it in the wild, and it can also screw up their eyes and stress them out. Expert village is more like "Idiot village".
I'd personally have the lamp and heat pad toward the same side. The heat of the lamp will move around the tank but if it is heated on both sides the gecko has nowhere to go to cool down.
ok so, put a heating pad on one side, and a heating lamp on the other?? if you tell me it dont produce heat, he said, " i dont want it to heat the water"
those are for ppl! and you really don't look like you know what your talking about!! Read another book! or better yet get some real reptiles...your lighting suggestions suck! 12 hrs of light 12 hrs of dark your an idiot!
I know breeders who use nothing but human heat pads. Because they cost a lot less and last a lot longer than pet heat pads. You need to read a book about spelling cause your spelling sucks. Most people do 12/12 or 10/14.
I know breeders who make a living off of breeding animals, Leopard geckos included. Just cause you can't type out the word people, don't know the difference between your and you're, and are wrong about the fact that a human heating pad is just as good, if not better, don't get angry. It took me about 30 seconds to type this up. Is that slow typing?
Thumbs up if you noticed the cat on the left bottom corner

Now on the argument about UV lighiting all reptiles need some sort of way to absorb vitamins and calcium, to put this into way most will understand, You are told to keep a Bearded dragon with a UV light, yes?. Well you dont have to, aslong as the beardie is getting the calcium which could be through supplements. The recommended way is to use lights with Diurnal and supplements with Nocturnal.
jakeelvin123 3 years ago
Well, you're quite right about the loose substrate but UV light benefits all reptiles. UV light is necessary to synthesize vitamin D3, Leopard Geckos do need UV lights during the day. In nature Leos will often come out in the light evening in order to bask in the sunlight. Even if your lizard doesn't seem to be using the light, It's still a good idea to provide it.

this video is disturbing!
You need an under tank heater connected to a thermostat to keep the temperature anywhere between 88-92 on the warm side. And they don't need UVA/B since they're nocturnal, they just need a regular day/night cycle. You also need a heat gradient so why would you put two heat sources on either side of the tank? And loose substrate, ugggh what an idiot! Whats next? Is he going to tell us that they eat vegetables?

human heat pads are not right for leopard gecko's and leopard gecko's use heat from below to digest their foods...heat lamps just piss them off.

a 15 or 10 gallon is fine for a 1 gecko .if you are breeding then its good to put 1 male an 1 female in a 10 gallon

How do these people get on Expert Village? Are they even certified. This guy's an idiot. No one listen to anything he is saying. Find someone who knows what they are talking about.
TennisChamp59 3 years ago 2
wtf how come this guy makes it so complicated. you can always get a heat mat and get a light dimmer or a thermostat to prevent it from over heating instead of unpluging and repluging the heat mat several times a day
romangodwax 3 years ago
if he said u want them to be able to get away from the heat how come he put a heat pad on one end of the tank and a heat pad on the other omg its commen sense
alexdahley11 3 years ago
yeah I noticed that too. It is stupid. I would hate to be those geckos in that tank.

Do u use a 60 watt red light for 24hrs,because that is what I do,or what do u use so it doen't effect their eyesight or stress them out?
Redstarfish1 3 years ago 2
Leopard geckos get BURNED by uvb. They never encounter it in the wild, and it can also screw up their eyes and stress them out. Expert village is more like "Idiot village".

etria702 3 years ago
there r alot of false facts but i dont feel like saying something today.
Reptilekeeper08 3 years ago
I'd personally have the lamp and heat pad toward the same side. The heat of the lamp will move around the tank but if it is heated on both sides the gecko has nowhere to go to cool down.
powerman2442 3 years ago
ok so, put a heating pad on one side, and a heating lamp on the other?? if you tell me it dont produce heat, he said, " i dont want it to heat the water"
subisblack 3 years ago
those are for ppl! and you really don't look like you know what your talking about!! Read another book! or better yet get some real reptiles...your lighting suggestions suck! 12 hrs of light 12 hrs of dark your an idiot!
phexid 3 years ago
I know breeders who use nothing but human heat pads. Because they cost a lot less and last a lot longer than pet heat pads. You need to read a book about spelling cause your spelling sucks. Most people do 12/12 or 10/14.
powerman2442 3 years ago
ok your a kid! 19 eh? wow you know everything don't you? spelling mistakes happen when ppl type fast! but it's ok I don't expect you to understand!
phexid 3 years ago
I know breeders who make a living off of breeding animals, Leopard geckos included. Just cause you can't type out the word people, don't know the difference between your and you're, and are wrong about the fact that a human heating pad is just as good, if not better, don't get angry. It took me about 30 seconds to type this up. Is that slow typing?
powerman2442 3 years ago
yeah the human heat pads are awesome
ewew43 3 years ago
lolz
get a joo v b light!!!
gnarkill901 3 years ago
Leopard geckos are nocturnal. Hence they need no UV lighting.

Thanks for the good tips, keep them coming.
