It was a mobile command station from STRATCOM that sent out with Air Force One from Offutt AFB, Nebraska. Offutt AFB was key to much of the success with responding to the attacks and landing air traffic and securing radio contact with only important mission information.

It was a mobile command station from STRATCOM that sent out with Air Force One from Offutt AFB, Nebraska. Offutt AFB was key to much of the success with responding to the attacks and landing air traffic and securing radio contact with only important mission information.
This plane is not equipped with any weapons but does have extensive counter measures. It is always prepared for launch at Offutt.

Makes perfect sense that this control plane would be up in the air during the crisis. However, timing is of interest. Was it scrambled after the 1st WTC building was hit (when most considered it an accident) or the second plane made impact (confirming coordinated attack). That was a lie becuase at the g8 summit their was a threat in which a plane was going to fly into the building that held the summit. (We eventually found out that he got a report about that threat.) For all other morons out there, know this. The pentagon has a pop-up missile defense system. We spent billions perfecting it. If you fly within 30 nautical miles of the pentagon and you don't have a military transponder on your aircraft, you will be shot down automatically. Except on 911, the system did not work.
