I ,like Pete rock .AS A PRODUCER...I studied his work for years...knew where he copped 45 records from...A-1..LOWER EAST SIDE
BUT PETE CANT GET OFF HIS 90-95 BEATS PER MINUTES....RAKIM NEEDS HYPE TRACKS BECAUSE HE IS MONO TONE..NO VOICE CHANGES OR HIGHS AND LOWS....as BIGGIE MASTERED.THIS TRACK IS SIMILAR TO HIS DONT SWEAT TECHNIQUE ALBUM BEATS
RAKIM IS WACK and has been for over 20 years his early work was dope but by no means is he a top 10 rapper all time wit more WACK albums than good ones
No MC better than Rakim. This is step beyond his oldschool hiphop roots but it's phenomenal and very true to his values and his genius. The sound of this track on the right stereo is sick. Yes, mainstream ought to be waking up to Rakim. Anything but this man is better than nearly anything else out there in hiphiop.
Rakim made what he wanted to do he dosen't need good beats, cause his rhymes make beats good, he wanted to work with people from NY including producers
Rakiwm is one of the most underrated rappers of all time. hes known but at the same time ppl dont talk about him. it is amazing though how many rappers give him a shout out. eminem, jay-z, limp bizkit and even 2pac. the guy is a genuis. always love listening to his music
@Armando316 oh yeah for sure. he was one of tupac's favorites. if you go to the rakim section on wikipedia, theres a section that shows all the references rappers use towards him, amazing to see that. too bad he isnt more respected today
No doubt Rakim don't need a boost of any kind he is the best to do it ever in my opinion and also I feel that his status is above how many records he sell because he is a rare mc to this degree, how many mc's you know can not sell a million copies and no one cares I can't really think of no one. Also no one compares rakim to any other mc but they do compare other mc's to rakim.
@soundretarded -- Word. He should of worked with Q-Tip, Premo, Kanye West (Whom he had many recording sessions with), Pete Rock, RZA, You know ... KNOWN producers. I mean this song is good but, Who really knows Slyce .? Also he should of worked with more guests like -- Nas, Raekwon, Lauryn Hill, Q-Tip, Kanye West, Method Man, Redman, AZ ... You get it right .? I mean ... Who the hell is IQ, Tracey Horton, Destiny Griffin (His Daughter), and Samuel Cristian .!?
@JayChyllin09 fucking sheep......Rakim would NEVER use that type shit! didja even LISTEN to the lyrics he was speakin on this track, talking about being ORIGINAL! there aint nothing original about a used up played out bullshit pop style. this Man is talking about shit you youngsters arent mature enough to understand. now go out in the backyard and play, Men are speakin business here!
@JayChyllin09 Fuck that Rakim doesnt need any friggin guests and gimmicks! Also who cares who made the beat if its dope? Rakim is the best that ever did it! I could listen to him acapella...
@JayChyllin09 The whole album was great what are you guys talking about. He doesnt have to make production like everybody else. First thing is the lyrics and Rakim is still the greatest at that and held his own perfectly so what does he need guests for. Listen to Psychic Love, I walk these streets, Documentary of a Gangsta, Wont Be Long, Man Above, this song. The album was great. This is one of the real hip hop albums.
@oneindachamber seriously its sick even walk these streets is tight it sounds new school but actually GOOD lol.. almost like a non-shitty Akon-hook song if that's possible lol
@JayChyllin09 rakim gave a chance to new talent, which 99% of hip hop artists dont do, rakim is ultra lyrical and hell he doesnt relle need a beat to sound dope,
@JayChyllin09 I think Ra started working with new people because he wants hip hop to be reborn like revelations. That was the whole point of the album for the 7th seal to be opened and hip hop reborn. We do need a lot more good young rappers or what will happen when all those people on your list retire.
@JayChyllin09 its not the point that he worked with people that are not well known dude...it`s should be about what theyre bringing..yeah the beat is ehh though. would be nice if they release the vocals alone ready for remixes
@soundretarded He shoulda just gone back to Eric B. He doesn't need this flashy, noisy shit. Mahogany is one of the greatest songs ever and it was just a simple drum pattern.
@GilbertSmith I think a good artist should dare to variate and prove he can handle all types of beats. Besides, I think this instrumental and his verses are a perfect combo
@soundretarded wait...what? I agree it's not as good as when he was in his prime, but then again, nothing is. This still shits all over any other working rapper today.
don't know why, but I feel this beat would have fit really well on Everlast's Whitey Ford album from back in the day...... not a bad thing, just saying.
I love Rakim, he's an all time great. I'm scared to get the new album though, I'm afraid it's gonna be weak. He doesn't pick good beats. His rhymes are still strong though.
@Sensaye25 Yeah most all the beats could be better on the new one. But the lyrics are always fire. walk these streets is good but everything could be better. Definitely coulda used some primo on it.
don't know what you guys are saying...this beat is DOPE

i actually think this song is more worthy to listen than listening today's cat.

Hearing this, I'm like what god is he? You serious?/
It's absurd cause Ra said, he'd know the ledge/
Then know Christ was God before your squirt arised to fertilize eggs/
You said you understand Scripture, let's assume it's true/
The God of the Bible says there's no room for two/
Don't sell cheap, His glory's not a hotel suite/
You lyricize as your prize like the Nobel peace/
