  • A little misleading as to the title, I'm sure it was a nice performance, I left after hearing the first four bars, but it should have been labeled as a different arrangement/song altogether. Just because it's public domain doesn't mean you can misrepresent something with it.

  • The singer has a nice voice! Who are these guys?

  • oh man i love this. so true the words to this song awesojme

  • Awesome video, and the people who do not get it. You need Jesus, Jesus is who we follow, not Luther, not the Pope, not mary or any other man or woman,But Jesus and Jesus alone, the torches are for the simbilizing the the light we have in us, in this dark and terrible world, and how we are to share that light with the world.

  • I suppose you do not mind the FACT that this song was written shortly after Martin Luther wrote, "On Jews and Their Lies" advocating the killing of Jews and burning their homes. Google and buy this book for your Pauline hate filled library. One cannot run from the fact Luther spoke violently against chosen of God and he is honored.Hitler loved Luther and the Pauline hatred.Jesus warned about Paul as the wolf who came to fold another way,not the gate..dreams trances.Rev2 Jesus Id false Paul.

  • @thedagonjones Wow. Which Jews were they? Of course, burning down homes was NOTHING compared to what heathens did back then, but DO TELL. Oh wait--you haven't done your homework and are simply spouting the nonsense you've heard someone else on the Net spew. Dummy. DO YOUR HOMEWORK.

  • Maybe I missed something but I don't get what was with the Tiki torches.

  • A perfect song for today's societally challenging times.

  • This is GGGGGGreat...............I love it.

  • the dude a 1:12 raise is harm to early hahhaa good retake though !

    God is good ! :)

  • Praise God that men of all generations can sing about the glory of a God who is our mighty fortress!

  • crazy people

    hello 666 !

  • I should point out that the "Today" in "A Mighty Fortress is our God from Today" (the description) refers to the name of the album. This song is called Fortress 144 from the album "Today", by Brian Doerksen. It is not intended as a modern day version of A Mighty Fortress is our God.

  • I love it, Looking forward to seeing Brian tonight in concert and I agree with "shortporky" The Key is honoring God.

  • martin luther's desiccated corpse is vomiting.

  • This song actually has nothing to do with Martin Luther... the actual name of the song is "Fortress 144", based very closely on Psalm 144...

  • The musical styles and instruments of today are just as valid as the styles and instruments of the old days. If you read Psalms we are to praise God with all types of instruments Guitars (lyres) and drums ( timbrels ,Cymbals) and not just play softly (resounding cymbals). We need to worry less about style and more about lifting our voices and playing our instruments to praise and honor God. And I believe that is what is being done in this video.

  • Sweet! Tiki torches!

  • A Mighty Fortress Is Our God for today is A Mighty Fortress Is Our God.

  • I did a search for my favorite hymn and this is what I run across. Makes me want to puke. It wouldn't be quite so bad if it weren't for the name of such a powerful song being stolen to title a watered-down message.

  • Is mixing Postmodernism into the Church a good idea?

  • I don't see any Postmodernism here. Just schlock.

  • This preference based worship which takes extensive elements of Postmodern culture and infuses them into the church. Notice the muddled message--case and point.

  • Recorded live from Abbotsford, British Columbia Canada (Brian's hometown) at NorthView Community Church if I'm not mistaken..

  • Wow, is that Will Denton drumming there?

  • It glorifys God,I like it.Jesus is my rock.

  • That's the question, isn't it?

  • The traditonal hyms are the best. Evangelicals are too worldly and they blend in with the world too much. They pollute good songs.

  • Sounds for this world, you are not being a peculiar person, as the bible says we are to be.

Friendship with the world is enmity with god.

  • Sounds pretty peculiar to me!

  • Peculiar, as in, unlike the world, this music caters to flesh, the beats, the rhythm, this type of music does not express fear of God, infinite love from a lamb who died on Calvary, or an overabundance of grace, It caters only to those things that the flesh enjoys, the spirit is neglected.

It's hard to feel the power coursing through an old militant hymn when it is being sung with electric guitars and drum beats, when I hear those instruments I don't think of god, I think of rock bands.

  • AMEN

We are to be a peculiar people, the farther from the world the better. Friendship with the world is enmity with god.

They all go "oh well it's not a sin" and they are the kind of Christians that stay right on the border of sin, if it's 99.9% sin, then they are fine, I say the traditional hymns are best, the way they were sung in Jesus time, somehow I see God preferring the old hymns more than the new stuff, but whatever, it's not like we are here to make god happy right?

  • So go ahead, and thumbs down us, your blend with the world puts you one step further to combining the world with God.

Worldly, get right people, and go back to the original hymns. ditch this worldly garbage.

I've never seen a church with a band that actually lived according to the scriptures, and actually read about 15 chapters a day, and fought their flesh.

Well, at least you guys are better than Catholics.

  • The original tune/setting would have been considered too worldly by Luther's contemporaries. I think it's wrong for temporal chauvinism in either direction - pining for some golden age of worship purity, or denigrating the great anthems of yesterday. I agree that faithful lyrics are important, but there is nothing worldy about an electric guitar and nothing sacred about a pipe organ.

  • Wow! I love this!!!!!!!!

    :) Noellia

  • this tune is called fortress 144. the whole elf warrior thing is pretty weird

  • they are ready for an attack from Mordor.

  • I enjoyed the warriors behind the song too.

    Ribbons the clown

  • Very nicely done. Great voice and instrumentals. Beautiful....5string

  • not what i was wanting but good none the less

  • well its not what I was expecting, but I like it.

  • WTF?

  • Who the hell titled this "A Mighty Fortress"? You go to hell for lying the same as you go to hell for killing.

  • Fortress 144?

  • So, what was the name of this song again? It sure isn't "A Mighty Fortress", even though I enjoyed it quite a bit. BTW, I typed this halfway through the song since it was obvious that the song title was a ripoff from the way the song was flowing.
