  • I'm curious as to how LBJ and his administration profited from escalating involvement in Vietnam. Not looking for a fight here, just enlightenment.

  • vietnam undeafeted!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I was in country in Naval Intelligence in 1965 and discovered we were not allowed to win the war. We could have won the war at any time but the directives from the White House were to perpetuate the war and every commander in that theater knew it. LBJ and his cronies were personally making millions off the US troops they were having killed. Honoring his memory in any way disgusts me.

Richard Nelson, USN, Vietnam combat veteran 1965/ 1966

  • What a liar. A Gangster. A demon.

  • cmon kids sign up for the war and die for my fossilized corpse

  • see the evil eye at the end of the video? (2.09)

  • LBJ was okay. Glad he upheld Kennedy's dream of going to the Moon!

  • fuck lbj, he just stood at his desk and read dumb speeches while other people are dying b/c of his decisions.

  • read globeisnotpyramid post Eisenhower warned us about the military complex . we didn't heed his warnings and they engulfed the republican and democrat parties. LBJ was part of the gulf of tonkin lie. so Keri1131982 just because you come from texass do you think bush is also defendable

  • Great speech. Outstanding President!

  • LBJ, was trapped by the circumstances of his time...Kennedy, the corrupted presidency which has highjacked history placed Johnson in a hard place Remenber the times of VN, Goldwater, comunism...how quick we forget! Johnson was boxed in by a corrupted system.. The extreme left will never find anything good regarding our country and our purpose!

  • he made many mistakes as a president. Vietnam was a big and ugly mistake. It should have not happened. No matter what he did in his own country he screwed up another that didn't deserve it. I don't understand how the presidents didn't stop the war. So many of them just sent more in.

  • what a dick head.....selling souls for money and power....

  • The reason I won't go to any damned foriegn war as its for profit. Now we're in another war like nam.

  • PBS was scheduled to air, "A Vietnam Atrocity", tonight, Sunday, 11/23/2008, at 8 o'clock, but guess what happened?

The program was censored almost immediately after it was introduced at 8 p.m.

All this time, I thought that I was living in democratic republic, but I guess I guessed wrong.

The transistion to digital programing is a joke.

It is merely a means to control what we can and cannot see on broadcast television.

A black face in a high place doesn't mean a dam thing.

  • Good Lord, you all have no idea what you are talking about. He was actually a decent guy. And no, I am not from Texas. He cannot be painted with the same brush as modern presidents. What did Bush ever do for civil rights or poor people?

  • Agreed, God rest his soul, LBJ fought tooth and nail his entire life to secure freedoms for all Americans. His legacy teaches us the cost of having a divided America in times of need can lead to catastrophe. The right wing hated him because he refused to blow up southeast Asia, the left because he chose to fight against communism while sacrificing young American lives. Vietnam was a mistake, but we cant put all the blame on this great man, he stood up for freedom and equality.

  • I Am From Austin, Texas And Thank You For The Kind Words About My Homestate Native Son Lyndon Baines Johnson,And I Agree With We Can Not Blame President Lyndon Baines Johnson For Everything,There Were Some Things That Were Beyond His Control, But He Poured His Heart,

Sweat,And Tears In To The United States,

Because He Worked On For Our Country. Keri Nowling,Seymour, Indiana,Formerly Of Austin, Texas.

  • LBJ certainly did no good to America, when he cared for the Kennedy assassination cover up, for profits out of war helicopters and oil and for not telling the people, who is really pulling the cords behind the scenes. Freedom can only go together with truth and if Johnson would have been a man of honor, he would have just said to people the truth about all the cooperations between the military-industrial complex, the mafia and the money fraud of the FED. He would not have continued Vietnam.

  • @robfsu13 yeah decent, whilst diving to the ground moment before shots rang out in dallas(he knew kennedy was going to be murdered.)

  • This damn bastard Johnson!!!! What a lying hypocrite!!!! You and Nixon sent American soldiers to their deaths because of the military industrial complex that Eisenhower warned about in his January 1961 Farewell Address to the nation.

Texas crapper!!!! Texas should have stayed out of the Union after the Civil War. We'll see if Texas would have won a second war against Mexico without white help.

  • this man is pure evil, saying one thing and doing the other

  • Hippies were never about non-violence. Just drugs and orgies and demon worship and shit. Don't believe the hipster hype.

  • "Demon worship?" What? No need to reply.

  • He threw it all away in the way he handled Vietnam, well like Nixon

  • LBJ raised the troop limits from 16,000 (which Kennedy had sent in, a few hundred originally by Eisenhower) to about 550,000. Nixon was the one who first reduced troop levels and eventually got us out of Vietnam. You can find this information in any scholarly text. Not saying you are wrong about LBJ's domestic achievments, but you are wrong about his actions in foreign policy.

  • Yeah, people seem to forget that for whatever mistakes LBJ might have made on the international stage, he was probably, one of, if not the best domestic presidents the US has ever had.

  • KaiXi333's comments are ignorant & sad. We had thousands in Nam before LBJ. Many kids died because Nixon later sent them there. Whatever mistakes LBJ made, give him respect for Civil Rights, Voting Rights, Medicare, Head Start, clean air & water, 1st fed aid to Education, Fair Housing, etc., & the 1st redeployments *out* of Vietnam. There is not a shred of evidence for your despicable comment on Tonkin, but I'm sure you think LBJ shot the Kennedys and King too, great historian that you are.

  • Many kids died because Nixon later sent them there. Whatever mistakes LBJ made, give him respect for Civil Rights, Voting Rights, Medicare, Head Start, clean air & water, 1st fed aid to Education, Fair Housing, etc

looks like dems can't take the blame for anything, and just because he started all of these programs, i guess we can overlook the millions that were killed in nam when he was pres.

  • He was part of the plot, infact, a major player. Kennedy had signed an order to pull out of Viet Nam just before he was killed. LBJ is an SOB. So was Nixson!

  • They were both our American Hitlers. They and many others such as:

    Kissinger

    McNamara

    Westmoreland

    Dean Rusk

should have stood for war crimes.

  • and Earl Warren, who covered up everything with the "Warren Commision"

  • You would place Earl Warren in the same category as LBJ and Nixon?

  • LBJ staged Tonkin and brought us into Vietnam, and costed all those 50,000 kids their lives.

    Lyin' Lyndon.

  • He didn't mention Vietnam at all in the speech. Guess it's not good salesmanship to say, "we want you to lay down your life". In any case LBJ was much better than the idiots we've got now.
