Are they serious? I'm in the military and they are dropping Joe's left and right to get the numbers down by a couple of thousands. They are throwing people out for being like 10 pounds overweight.
What's the big deal? When my kids were in HS, if a recruiter called, I'd tell them they were not allowed to speak to my kids until they were 18. The recruiters respected that, and we had no problems. Of couse, if my kids were interested in officer programs (ROTC or service academies), I encouraged them to pursue that interest.
I don't know how idiots get on television or where the idiots that run the media come from, but none of this is true. Recruiters don't plant any seeds or start talking to kids at 12 - 17 years old. Applicants that are 17 must have their parent's signature to join and applicants can't join on their own until they are 18. When a recruiter goes to a high school, there are other ages there, but a recruiter can't recruit the other ages, so why target them? This video is stupidity at it's best!

It Is impossible to cheat the recruiting system. I just joined the army, and they type in your social security number and they find you in the data base.

@parafleet BTW brother, I get paid based only on my rank and time-in-service. Not by the number of people I enlist. Recruiting is my duty, not my job. As for combat, I and the Marines I led in Iraq and Afghanistan enjoyed ourselves quite a lot during engagements. We actually relish the fact that we are so damn good at killing those who dared to raise their weapons to us. I personally thrive in such situations. I hate recruiting and cannot wait to get back where I belong. Leading warriors.

Most 15 and 16 year olds aren't worth a recruiters time even if the age wasn't an issue.
I am a Marine Corps recruiter. Take it from me children CANNOT be recruited by my branch nor any other. Both parents must give consent on DD Form 1966 Pg 5 for a person who is 17 who wishes to enlist. That person who obtains parental consent must then turn 18 before shipping to recruit training.

He went on and on about school in Florida and then I would be set with a tech savvy education I could use in the real world. Jimmy Carter apparently did the same. i dont get it the recruiters at my school only talk to the people that they know will join the military, and they never talk to anybody who doesnt talk to them or if somebody says h,i they hi back, then say "hey u want to join xyz branch", the person says no, recruiter says ok. sometimes they play with the person saying "cmon u will enjoy it" but if they are insistent on saying no then everybody moves on with their day. i dont know how that is forcing people into service

17 year old USA troops cannot be deployed to a combat zone, but can be deployed overseas, at least that is the way it was years ago. Some 17 year olds do fall through the cracks and end up in a combat zone, but when found out they are pulled out. I was overseas when I was 17 in early 1971.

I can't agree with RT's suggestion the US has a credible record of opposing the recruitment of child soldiers in foreign countries, given the history of supporting various regimes and terror groups in the Balkans, the Middle East, and elsewhere.

American soldiers who are 17 years old aren't allowed to be deployed outside the continental US or deployed to combat situations. If a 17 year old child wants to join the US military, he/she must get permission from his/her parents. Countries like Canada & UK allow children to join the military at age 16 - 16.5, again with parent's permission.

USA does not recruit 16-year old kids, unless the kids are good liars & the recruiter is violating the law.
In order to enlist in the military at 17 at least one parent must sign the consent form. I enlisted at 17 nearly 40-years ago & the law was the same then.

He went on and on about school in Florida and then I would be set with a tech savvy education I could use in the real world. Jimmy Carter apparently did the same. i dont get it the recruiters at my school only talk to the people that they know will join the military, and they never talk to anybody who doesnt talk to them or if somebody says h,i they hi back, then say "hey u want to join xyz branch", the person says no, recruiter says ok. sometimes they play with the person saying "cmon u will enjoy it" but if they are insistent on saying no then everybody moves on with their day. i dont know how that is forcing people into service

17 year old USA troops cannot be deployed to a combat zone, but can be deployed overseas, at least that is the way it was years ago. Some 17 year olds do fall through the cracks and end up in a combat zone, but when found out they are pulled out. I was overseas when I was 17 in early 1971.

I can't agree with RT's suggestion the US has a credible record of opposing the recruitment of child soldiers in foreign countries, given the history of supporting various regimes and terror groups in the Balkans, the Middle East, and elsewhere.

American soldiers who are 17 years old aren't allowed to be deployed outside the continental US or deployed to combat situations. If a 17 year old child wants to join the US military, he/she must get permission from his/her parents. Most of these young recruits join the military because the military runs in their family history or they just want to do something worthwhile. Countries like Canada & UK allow children to join the military at age 16 - 16.5, again with parent's permission.

It's actually not as he describes at all to be honest. RT sided with the bias in this case rather then showing the actual law from say a US lawyer or pulling an actual High Schooler or JROTC member, they would explain it far far better then he would. Even I can I know 20 girls, that joined the JROTC cause it looks great on a job interview only 2 actually enlisted. Just search for Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps wiki
