Since Medicare passed in 1965, the problem of costs have increased. The system is messed up, because of government intervention! Less government means better health care. I havent given it much though but I think if the prices were to be made affordable by the government, the government would have to institutionalize hospitals. It could be made free or you could control the charges to patients and wages of the hospital staff. Think of public and private schools. Private hospitals would offer superior care for those who could afford it, public for those that can't. That would decimate the profits of the health care complex so the chances of that happening are 0%.
Well we have a similar system as you put forward, only difference between nation health hospitals and private is the waiting time to get care, and were tackling that at the moment, was months to get seen by a specialist some years ago now its weeks. so no private dosn't meen better.
I know affordable or free healthcare has the downside of a long waiting period but I am going to guess that the reason your private hospital has such a long wait is because national hospitals dont have the specialist you need or everyone wants to go to the private hospital? It's really simple. Just look at Lasik eye surgery. The insurance companies OR the government won't touch it with a ten foot pole! So what happened? I think the real problem arises when a institution subsidizes a service or program. Colleges are now charging more and more to attend. This can be attributed to student loans. When the federal government subsidizes loans it allows the schools to increase the cost of tuition. Insurance companies have raised the cost of health care by allowing and accepting the hospitals to charge and highly inflated price. The only real way to make health care affordable is to stop supporting inflated prices.

I would like to say that I live in Canada. When someone in my family became seriously ill with cancer, There was no waiting for HMO's to approve his treatments. There was no arguments about where he could go to get treated,no disscusion about how much his life was worth to a Health Care Provider. He was in the hospital within two weeks for an operation,the drugs that he needed were provided for by Alberta Health Care. You must be right you guys have it figured out way better.

Socialism doesn't work because governments are very bad at managing markets. In a truly competitive market, your "evil" corporations run the system much better. The reason why our system is failing is that the government has over-regulated the industry (no foreign drugs, for example).

Actually, the not-for-profit system that only Kucinich offers is not government run. The providers are independent, the difference being the gov't will pay them. If I have to wait in line for a procedure because someone else is ahead of me in the waiting line or someone has an emergency, then I will wait and not complain. People come to this country for health care because of our advances, not because of our system.

Well, in fact, all that money you spend on your military is BORROWED money. Look up "petrodollars" Oil and much world trade uses American dollars to conduct business. This allows the FED to print money out of thin air and the they LOAN it to the gov't at INTEREST.
Take a class in health care economics. Obviously, you don't have a sound understanding of statistics, reimbursement, insurance, and actual health care costs. Once you get around to reading a book on the subject and educating yourself, try this again.
Corporations profit by MAKING you sick, and them by selling you a "treatment" loaded with side effects that need MORE drugs to treat the symptoms of the first drug and then the other drugs produce even MORE side effects,, etc. etc. A bleeding, bloody spiral down.

Healthcare is the single most important issue in the 2008 election. United States is the only Western industrialized nation with out universal healthcare. The private sector is not stable enough for healthcare. Our own health is at stake here. Since Medicare passed in 1965, the problem of costs have increased. The system is messed up, because of government intervention! Less government means better health care. I havent given it much though but I think if the prices were to be made affordable by the government, the government would have to institutionalize hospitals. It could be made free or you could control the charges to patients and wages of the hospital staff. Think of public and private schools. Private hospitals would offer superior care for those who could afford it, public for those that can't. That would decimate the profits of the health care complex so the chances of that happening are 0%.

It's really simple. Just look at Lasik eye surgery. The insurance companies OR the government won't touch it with a ten foot pole! So what happened? Well, the "in-patient" surgery turned into to a 30 second out-patient "procedure". The technology has advanced 10,000 times better and the cost is about a 100th wat it was originally. You make a good point but it still cost like 1k-2k for lasik surgery.. even though it as you says takes minutes. Also... ever have a baby? Why does it cost 5k-10k to have a baby in the hospital? Free market does provide the best products for less effort and work but I think the problem of insurance price inflation is still there. Insurance companies support the inflated prices for these procedures that should cost less. Thats the real problem with our healthcare system. Its not the quality.

I think the real problem arises when a institution subsidizes a service or program. Colleges are now charging more and more to attend. This can be attributed to student loans. When the federal government subsidizes loans it allows the schools to increase the cost of tuition. Insurance companies have raised the cost of health care by allowing and accepting the hospitals to charge and highly inflated price. The only real way to make health care affordable is to stop supporting inflated prices.

I would like to say that I live in Canada. When someone in my family became seriously ill with cancer, There was no waiting for HMO's to approve his treatments. There was no arguments about where he could go to get treated,no disscusion about how much his life was worth to a Health Care Provider. He was in the hospital within two weeks for an operation,the drugs that he needed were provided for by Alberta Health Care. You must be right you guys have it figured out way better.

Then it's a good thing that my stepfathers opperation for cancer in his esophagus didn't rely on you and your agenda. Thankfully when he got sick, he was in the hospital in two weeks for an opperation to remove the cancer, and when he got out his medication was paid for by Alberta Health Care wich I pay into every three months $134.00

Socialism doesn't work because governments are very bad at managing markets. In a truly competitive market, your "evil" corporations run the system much better. The reason why our system is failing is that the government has over-regulated the industry (no foreign drugs, for example).

Actually, the not-for-profit system that only Kucinich offers is not government run. The providers are independent, the difference being the gov't will pay them. If I have to wait in line for a procedure because someone else is ahead of me in the waiting line or someone has an emergency, then I will wait and not complain. People come to this country for health care because of our advances, not because of our system.

I'm Canadian. I was diagnosed with cancer and not given more than two years. Went to the Mayo Clinic. My experience there was far below par compared to the Canadian system. And it COST ME A FORTUNE.
The Mayo Clinic has MARBLE columns and polished granite toilet stall separators.

Hillary's answer to the heathcare "crisis" is simple. She will force everyone to buy health insurance. Private or Public. She will force employers to provide heath insurance. She will force insurance companies to not refuse claims.

The private sector is not stable enough for healthcare. Our own health is at stake here.
