i would like to know what kind of mouthpiece that is too. as a french horn player i've only seen it one other time and never figured out what the brand was. i like to the horn be so versitile
This is really brilliant! I just brought my first French Horn today, and I'm just looking towards this video for a bit of inspiration to get an idea of how a professional would play it! I love bossanova, and both trombone and french horn are perfect for the genre(as well as any other instrument is besides the guitar(violao))!
bravissimo, I love the light mellow tone, it fits so much better with smooth style jazz, or bebop, rather then the rough edged tone most jazz hornists use for blues. I liked this very much mr. hoffer, and @kukhofkapellmeister reading chords is shameless, unto each musician his own, if the music is beatiful and done well, what does it matter how it is done? I am curious what mouthpiece you use, I've been a bit out of the loop on mouthpieces since I get all mine custom made.
A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!! This year was my first year playing the French horn and I know how difficult this instrument is. partials and notes, basically muscle memory in you chops. I love playing melodies and counter melodies on horn! when you nail something so beautiful the amazing feeling and goose bumps you get are the best!!
I am a 6th grade player amd I just learnt something cool...that French Horns are important in Latin Jazz! When learning about the Jazz Age in History when all the trumpets are cheezin you feel left out lol.
How can anyone say an instrument isn't Jazzy? Jazz is a style of music and if your good enough you can make any instrument sound jazzy. Its called being a good musician
Love it! And wh cares if an instrumentalist uses notes for a solo? There are tons of talented artists that memorize licks and solos off a written solo. I doubt that's what Mr. Hoffer is doing, but still. To each their own. Awesome job. The rest of the combo is exceptional as wel!
@thekamikazestudios French Horns are NOT crappy sounding! every instrument has its own unique sound I for one think french horns have a very beautiful soft sound.

@thekamikazestudios lol! Not even close. 1) French Horn is bigger. 2) The Trombone sounds so good, the default mouthpiece is about twice as deep as it should be.
If it weren't for the stupid slide gimmick, Trombone would have been dumped from the brass line up ages ago.

you have no idea. i know a lot about horn and jazz and he really knows how to play the french hron. But he doesn't have any idea about playing a jazz solo...... he uses written notes......how bad is that
@giohoffer I guess what he's trying to say is that it sounds like the improvised section of the piece sound heavily rehearsed then being what happens at the spur of the moment. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying you aren't, but maybe that's what he thinks... It's definitely a breath of fresh air for what i've been listening to and trying to program into my brain to progress musically and improvisation as well. Keep it up!

I played the french horn during concert season/contest in junior & high school band. It all started when in 7th grade I broke my right-hand ring finger in gym class, so I couldn't play my trumpet. Band director asked me to play the horn & the rest is history, hahaha. I sat 1st chair horn during concert season, & alternated between 1st/2nd chair trumpet during marching season. Best time of my life! This jazz horn is great! Fantastic sound!
