  • I remember see this video when I was a kid...timeless!

  • Thumbs up if Beavis & Butthead brought yu here!!!!!

  • i wass so hot for you when seen you lick that votroclyce

  • postmodernism exhibition, anyone? :L

  • She's ....Just Damn!

  • She out performs everyone with just a mic, a pair of gloves, stairs and a spot light... the collaboration between Grace and Jean Paul Goude is still breathtaking.

  • Superb

  • GENIUS !

  • She's nobody's fool...she's a Demolition Man! There is just something so engaging about her...presence...poise...strength...ferocity...and that unwavering gaze. Ms. Jones, I love you, such an inspiration for this twenty year old female.

  • HAHAH LOL I tHOUGHt THAT WAS IN REAL TIME FOR A MINUTE!

  • i fucking LOVE THIS. Grace you are so fierce.

  • She blows them all away---

  • This is the lady that started it all for Madonna, Lady GaGa, Cyndy Lauper to do their "own" thing... yeah... this lady did it first.

  • Grace Jones is more man than you'll ever be and more woman than you'll ever have.

  • @davettalashley dang, well said! this woman is a saint!

  • AWESOME TALENT-FACE-VOICE-BODY-ATTITUDE -GRACE JONES IS ART PERSONIFIED ! ! ! HER EYES ARE BEAUTIFUL-PROPS TO ALL HER STYLIST & MUSICIANS

  • AWESOME TALENT-FACE-VOICE-BODY-ATTITUDE -GRACE JONES IS ART PERSONIFIED ! ! !

  • wow wtf, that must be sped up or something

  • crazy cool

  • This must be where both Annie Lennox and Robert Palmer got their styles from

  • Grace Jones is the Definition of a True Artist= Dare to Be Different, Original Sound, Striking Beauty, and Fashion Royalty>> Put Some Grace in Your Face/Bass....

  • Even doing a cover she is still an original and compelling. Lady who?

  • Fuck George Washington. Put Grace Jones on the $1.

  • @factsequalfuel OH HELL YEAH BABY!

  • @factsequalfuel Are you kidding me? Grace Jones is worth more than $1.

  • This video freaked me out when I was a kid lol

  • GRACE JONES IS SCARY!!!

  • is this video not better than all the Minaj, Rihanna, Beyonce, Lady Gaga bullshit thats out today?

    GRACE fucking JONES.

the world watched and took, but never gave full respect to the true source.

  • @SubliminalMinded2011 She's the Origional LADY GAGA!!!...aah lady gaga WHO!!!..lol" this woman was so ahead of her time!!! and totally paved the way man!!' for all other artist like ladygaga"

  • @SubliminalMinded2011 You are so right, with all of gaga's money, she is still tryin to reach the realness in the lyrics and drama that only Grace Jones can give. Long Live Grace Jones!! It is still politically relavent and the beat still carry strong. I'm all for a Big Grace Jones come back.

  • @SubliminalMinded2011 Yeah, Grace was Bad Ass !

  • Respond to this video... The best version ever made of the song-the marching Graces are classic!

  • @SubliminalMinded2011 The big difference in Grace and those other people like gaga or Beyonce is grace is a true artist she isn't meant for public consumption the other are disposable disney stars that will do what ever it takes to be on top grace was and still is a true artist.

  • I can't say she does anything for me in the appeareance catagory. Features are way too harsh. Her music is surprizingly good and unique. She was horrible in Conan 2.

  • @naordie ... she is bad-ass in conan 2, r u crazy? This song describes the world pictured in the movie by the same name (Demolition Man, 1993) and the world they want for us: The Nanny-State! Imagine 1984 free adapted as Big Sister. Eat your veggies, or else we'll ban dessert! And we'll tax everything you enjoy doing!

  • Truly a classic. that scene with the trombone used to run at the beginning of a popular 80s MTV show, I think.

  • love this song, it puts me in mind of my secret crush. linda at labor ready in illinois I like listening to this drunk. when I think of her I kiss my hand & pretend it's her lips

  • Was she in Conan the Barbarian 2

  • in my 80s i think se´s quite an artist

  • She had such a freakin awesome voice.

  • And That is Grace!

  • 22 People messed around with the demolition man!

  • Saw some guy ran up on stage and cuffed himself to her ankle at a show in NY back in 70's. She beat the shit out of him almost felt sorry for the guy. Shes a little a scary. Adam Ant did a commercial back in the day with her said it was the best day of his life. She really is V good and quite the artist. Wish she'd come back and do some more stuff. Love ya Miss Jones \o/

  • To all the ignorants: GET A LIFE !... This is just not music, It is art as well, and when you put the 2 together, You get more than just a song.!

  • Ching someone Gaga? Is it? Who was the son of a bitch, tramp? I hope I have done this nimguem look for a comment there.

  • @1:08

Butt-Head: Uhhhhh Is this Manute Bol?

Beavis: That dude can slam dunk without even jumping

Butt-Head: Yeah, uh huh huh huh, Too bad he can't sing

  • Lady Gaga ripped off this freak?!? Then I guess Henry Ford ripped off the covered wagon because they both have wheels. I'm 49 and not much of today's music impresses me but Lady Gaga is truly avant garde in look talent and sound.

  • @tomintroy You must never have heard of marilyn manson or madonna. the two people Gaga ripped off most.

  • @tomintroy Lady Gaga has stated publicly Grace Jones is a major inspiration and she would love to work with her. Lady Gaga is extremely watered down compared to Grace Jones. It's why Grace Jones never got truly mainstream success, especially in America where she was completely off the scale. She was pretty successful in the UK and Europe in the early 80s though.

  • grace is very strange, but very talented

  • Man listen to that sound incredible, guitar, bass, drums!!!!! In the "old" times there was real, good music !!!

  • GRACE JONES !!!

  • I never liked her. she's too strange. eat some food, grow some hair wtf????

  • @starbuck680 Models don't eat. They smoke and starve themselves. However, I love her.

  • i like how when she gets the trombone and plays it, theres people cheering before, but once that loud explosion thing happens, theres no cheering, thats the moment she killed all her fans :O

oh and i love this song, with her the singer and the Police

  • Grace Jones is the Demolition Man! ;-)

  • She held the trombone wrong lol.

  • @PaijePeace Here's my trom-bone why don't you show me how to hold it .

  • @thincow12 Trombone*

  • @PaijePeace Okay, here's my throbbing bone, why don'g you hold it for me.

  • Always suspected there was something "robotic" about Grace, but with all those look alike copies I'm sure she must be an automotron.

  • Listen to this fantastic song and then go and listen to Dead Or Alive's 'I'd Do Anything'.....Pete Burns blatantly ripped it off.

  • Wether it was or not, I feel like Grace Jones, especially this song and performance was made for me.

As a gay 21 year old boy, there something in her songs and in her performances that I can gather strength from. There's not many other artists I can say that for (David Bowie, The Cranberries...)

I wish more people my age could recognize true artists such as this, and stop falling for all the false idols who are shown in our media today.

  • @curtismcvey In my humble opinion, wishing other people would do this or recognize that is quite usless, as every one lives in their own little universe (including myself).

What is interesting is that you (could be any other person, I'm not trying to being personal) recognize true artist, because this reflects on the way you view things. It's your point of view, your interpretation (for example of art).

If some one else doesn't recognize true artists, it's only a reflection of themselves.

  • @curtismcvey Amen!!!

  • Nothin' but the truth

  • that speedy tiptap movement at the start is awesome and kinda funny

  • in the 80's grace jones was considered "Avant Garde" along with laurie anderson, klaus nomi.....in my opinion, they were very original and incredible performers...every now and then u get kinda of tired of seeing the same old same old.....kinda like eating hamburgers every day gets old....however a steak every now and then is good very good!

  • Incredible song, and awesome performance. This woman is one of a kind.

This song makes me think of Alistair Overeem; the Demolition Man. It's funny that he was just a child when this came out, but it fits him perfectly; he's a destroyer.

  • Beautiful? Hot??? Am I missing something here? She looks like an African tribesman, emphasis on MAN, wearing makeup and lipstick. If you guys think that's hot..... well, whatever floats your boat, I guess.

  • @linelazur: Grace says "Feelin like woman, lookin like a man" in Walking in the Rain. Her 'look' is part of her art: questioning 'ideals' of man/woman, black/white, decency/vulgarity. I am a dark-skinned female (not the 'blond hair-blue-eye-ideal') and growing up with her in the media (especially in a James Bond film) helped me (and scores of others) to feel beautiful.

  • @linelazur;

    yer such a white boy

    kisses

  • Grace, you're ahead of your time.

  • Is this an actual live performance?

  • This ain't the Police ;)

  • so hot..remarkable beauty...incredible talent...love you Grace..you rock.

  • I think this is my favourite music video.

  • sigh...you just had to be there......and thankfully, I was. The people that you remember the most, are the ones that made you sit up and say: "WTF?" Love, her, or hate her, you will def. remember Grace.

  • All you ASSHOLES DOWN THERE WISH YOU WERE HER, SHE DID WHAT SHE WANTED BECAUSE SHE HAD THE TALENT TO FORTIFY IT. GET A LIFE LOSERS!!!

  • Grace didn't take any shit.......from anyone!

  • Uh, why is that man wearing lipstick?

  • @ronin6401 thats a woman

  • @adkomondor Yes I know, I was being sarcastic since Grace Jones looks like Wesley Snipes.

  • @ronin6401 uh, why is an idiot asking a stupid question?

  • @ronin6401 common have u ever seen a man with such great cheekbones

  • @lyletteg i see men with magnificent cheekbones all of the time -- much better, in fact, than any mere woman i have EVER seen.

  • okay enough with the lady gaga..shut the fuck up already..whether you support or oppose her..it's getting stupid.

  • YES! SHE IS the demolition MAN!!!

What entertaining performance. She's the original, others the copy...

  • Who are the 19 fools.????

  • Love this song loved Grace Jones from when i was about 7

But when is Grace gunna put on a nice dress and smile.....

    thanks crazedvole for the post!

    Bless!

    (",)

  • I can picture Tina Turner singing this song

  • awsome only a supa cool artist comes up with that performance. legend

  • omfg that bit with the trombone!

  • A truly remarkable piece of performance art!

  • A true performer! Even her climbing up the stairs at the end of the song is a performance. It is measured without appearing so--just notice her steps and her hand placements. What can one say about her that hasn't been said already, other than that she is simply AMAZING!

  • MTV made a booboo! I think. This song is on the fantastic Nightclubbing album, not Warm Leatherette. (Unless there's another version I'm unaware of?)

  • Didn't Wesley Snipes have the same hair cut in the movie with the same name?

  • grace is a real artist!!!!....i loved and still love her style.

  • was the begining played in FF or something. What a strange woman O_o

She sure does know how to perform! But i don't like her music thought.

  • perfection!

  • I haven't seen this since.... The 80s... I remember those marching clones very well. Grace Jones is one weird, eccentric broad.

  • I have been a Grace jones fan for ever She has class, style and her own way of dressing the woman paved the way for others she was ahead of the times she never was tacky or vulgar. Lady gaga is nothing compared to Grace Jones.

  • I was very young when she was popular but Wow she was amazing, artistic, and cool.

  • Fuck yes I love the way she uses her body and face.and eyes. Awesome.

  • My goodness, this is amazing.

  • I remember this video from way back when, but I just realized, she had a high-top fade LONG before it became popular.

  • Lady GaGa can bite me - Grace did it first and did it best.

  • Grace Jones is without equal - before or since this video. You young kids do your homework. She's genius.

  • Demolition Man is actually from the Nightclubbing album, so the idiots are stupid to say it is from her Warm Leatherette album.

  • Amazing Grace Jones!

    He is fantastic!

  • when younger artists want to copy some-one they walk around claiming that they were ''inspired'' by that person...so that when they rip off all their styles people wont say its a copy. some-one can inspire you but that does,nt mean that you must rip not one but most of their styles.

  • Grace is a hustler.which is fine-but she doesn't play ,compose or arrange.Lady Gaga is also a hustler BUT she ackowledges those upon whose shoulders she stands(unlike some people)& does in fact, play ,compose &arrange.

  • if one more of you PEASANTS mentions an ICON like Grace Jones in the same SENTENCE with that tired girl who's been around for FIVE MINUTES or 'borrowed' ideas to begin with, Grace and I will... well you'll fucking find out. I mean REALLY. Do all of you really know so little about art and a true artist? Go and pick yourselves up a copy of 'Second Edition' by Public Image Ltd.

  • @djuri0612 i agree so,soooo much! nicely said!

  • @djuri0612 I could not agree more! Excellent comment! I love Grace Jones! She's an amazing performance artist and such a striking presence. I also loved her as Mayday in View To A Kill.

  • @djuri0612 Right on....I had never heard of that thing until recently. I was like "you people really think this is anything new?" It is garbage; pure garbage.

I also like Public Image Ltd.

  • @djuri0612 - Oh dear

  • @djuri0612 I throw up a little in my mouth when I hear its name mentioned. She's a tired, worn out, never had an original thought in her life, sad, poser ripping off every drag queen trick in the book. Everything that sad other girl does is more boring than the next. The more "original" she tries to be the the triter her schtick becomes. Eeeeyach! Grace is eternal.

  • Peruvian marching powder strikes again

  • She's awesome!

  • I saw this when it came out on MTV, and I like even better now.

    27 years later.

  • If David Bowie is "Aladdin Sane" then that would make Grace Jones "Alassin Sane"... thats part of what makes those 2 so Brilliant!

  • This is the original. Police version is the cover.

  • @hjs521 Let's say they both released it the same year. She came out first then the Police did it for their Ghost in the Machine, but STING WROTE the song.

  • @hjs521 umm Sting wrote this song for Jones, then The Police covered a song that Sting wrote later

  • this version is, in my opinion, far superior to the police original. especialy thislive version. awesome.

  • lol weird beginning

  • I love when the army of her "clones" come marching out.. thats my favorite part of the video!

  • Damn, I LOVE Grace!!!

  • i dont understand why people keeps givin credits to madonna???, madonna just exposed herself THAT'S ALL !!!, grace is the TRUE artist and she was the innovator and she wa the creator!!!, this is art people THIS is true ART, still amazed how grace was sooo far for that era and also from this one (where all "artist" are long blonded hair bitches) !!!,

  • Grace is the bomb

  • fuckin goddess

  • jaja esto parece de terror ke mujer mas rara¡¡¡

  • Whats this crap?

  • It`s the stuff Lady Ga Ga ripped off.

  • @JamesTKirkCobain - yeah? well, you would know eh? Which song of Gaga's do you suggest violates a Jones copyright? To me they are as different as night and day. But I guess Grace DID rip off Max Headroom. You rip off anybody lately? Or are you a walkin, trashtalkin ORIGINAL - 'JamesTKirkCobain' - :))

  • @sewsoomi the makers of Max Headroom admitted way back then they borrowed one of Grace' look for *their* look . grace is an original.

  • @sookiestackhouse2u God/Allah/Mother Nature.. whatever your brand, loves all artists who put it out there on the stage for people they don't even know. Love em all for trying to amuse us, entertain and, at times, inspire us. When they set foot on that stage, every one of them is an 'original'.

  • @sewsoomi like i said earlier, GRACE is an original. anyone can jump on a stage, BUT... not EVERYONE is talented or unique or an ORIGINAL like a GRACE JONES. an artist like her only comes around ONCE in a lifetime.

  • @JamesTKirkCobain It's not the idea, but the expression of the idea that constitutes a rip-off. That given, do you think that Lady GaGa ripped her off, or was just inspired by Grace?

  • @Jrsarver Lady Gaga clearly acknowledges the fact that she's heavily inspired by Bowie, Grace Jones, etc., which is fine, my problem is with her douche bag fans who have no idea who those two are and think she's a) the second coming of christ and b) totally unique and original.

  • @viehunter Co-signing it. And if you tell them her name comes from "Radio Gaga", you'll get a similar blank stare.

  • @JamesTKirkCobain no offense but she cant actually sing are play instruments if you really watch her video, yes gaga and grace both incoperate fashion but gaga can play instruments, sing and dance shes more like prince then her. And dare i say grace copied a little bite of her shock value shows from prince im just saying

  • @JamesTKirkCobain

Lady Gaga never really ripped off of Grace. She is inspired by Grace though.

  • @WoodRatGirl Enough of this Lady Gaga BS!!! Grace Jones is the best. I am sick of people comparing that Gaga BS to Grace. Every comments board of Grace Jones' videos always has some idiot comparing Gaga to Grace. There is no comparison. Grace Jones is a real artist. Gaga is not!!!!

  • @Luvie1980

Enough of you fucking PMSing, just because your Aunt Flo is spending the week at your place! Btw, I am allowed my opinion and if you don't like it, well you can just go and suck shit through a straw!

  • @Luvie1980 Where as I am not a fan of Lady Gaga, this is a dumb thing to say. Gaga may not be art you like but she is an artist.

  • @JamesTKirkCobain how so? gaga has never done anything like this

  • @JamesTKirkCobain wonder where gaga got that crazy do lol

  • are you inbred?

  • I use to want to do her soooo bad.Loved her in james bond with christopher walken.....

  • the best of the best

  • this took the song to a whole new level....

  • My Friend Charles did this in Drag in the 80's at a bar called DOK West..She Blew it outta the water!!! I miss her!!!

  • Ah, the glory days of the DOK West. OZ came close but it just wasn't the same.

  • @barriobajaj Dok West has a facebook page, check it out, I've found soo many old friends on it...

  • no one can even come close!

  • great performer

  • At the end of this video, you will see where the movie A Nightmare at Christmas got its stairwalk, no lie, it was modeled after this performance from Grace. Brilliant and historical.

  • watf the first part!!! wow that's cool...but thats the video or that's her live?

  • IT'S THE VIDEO

  • thanks it was dump to ask that...but in one way i was thinking that that was a big screen putting that and later she peforming

  • I was at her "One Man Show" in San Francisco. It was fantastic....I saw her again at Trocadero in SF and she was insane..she was spitting wine all over the audience when she sang "Bullshit", dry humped a leather queen doggie style, knocked over all the symbols she was using for "Warm Leatherette, and when they would try to put them back she would scream "Leave the fuckers on the floor" She was fabulous and then she threw her shoes into the audience and left.. Now we have Miley Cyrus and her ilk.

  • die posaune von YerichO goes bomb (b(u)y) the base

  • I'm not sure how androgynous Grace Jones was trying to be. Concurrently there was Annie Lennox in the Eurhythmics doing much the same thing.

But in Grace's case she seemed to be doing something of Kraftwerks' robotics and machine beats as well.

Case in point, she seems to cast an extraordinary angular shadow behind hereself right before the song starts, reminiscent of German Expressionistic film-making.

  • Therealog328--First of all Grace is female--how can you be a disgrace to something that you aren't???? Second she's not pretending to be man--this is an androgynous persona she donned in the 80's. She's moved on from this look completely--not that the look was so bad back then. I think Grace is amazing and talented--you can't say that about a lot of artists nowadays! Each to her or his own taste I suppose.

  • i couldn't agree with you more
