  • Ladies and gentlemen. May I point out that it is a 16 y.o. girl (or 15 y.o., depending on when in 1935 it was recorded) we hear? You understand why she won over Oistrakh?

  • Both are masters(but personaly I prefer Oistrakh )and I think critrisising Oistrakh it's quite ununderstude.And do you know what,my favrout version of this is Heifetz :P

  • i really can't understand how u can compare Oistrack and Neveu ...just because they are so different artists.....

    Neveu had one of the most "incandescent " way of playing... i love specially the public recordings.... incredible... what a power she had.. there is no other violonist with such personnality ...

  • Anyone describing Neveu as anything other than a complete master of violin, interpretation, and performance is clearly nothing of an expert on anything, certainly not in that area.

  • Ok I won't click dislike out of respect for those who prefer to see an immaculate record of likes on this piece. Reasons I don't like it; The Hora is a an actual dance therefore you need to keep the tempo constant - no room for personality and personal touches there. The so called overall flair shown by the artist is equivalent to taking a Mozart concerto and turning it into a cafe performance with excessive glissando and vibrato. It becomes taste less.

  • @oneoctavelow It is the music that makes the dance, not the other way around. But you're most wrong when you call this a "dance". Bach's partitas are inspired by dances but become something far more than that. Same with this fabulous piece. And by the way, nothing wrong with Mozart in a cafe setting. Or ANY setting for that matter. And much of Mozart is rather pedestrian to me. De gustibus non disputandum.

  • Sorry, but everything that Heifetz lacks is here: finesse, sensitivity, imagination, beautiful sound and a perfect down and up bow staccato, without any scracht, and beautiful round trills. Heifetz is rather mechanical and unsensitive in that particular piece and not at ease with his faulty staccato...

  • She won a violin competition in Russe. David Oistrack won the 2nd prize.

  • @henrique1944 Indeed! It was a scandale for russian society and Oistrakh was consider as a bad musical icon for his country, then he became what he became but Neveu was definitely better

  • @petrof4056 Excuse me, but I believe it was the Wieniawski Competition where she won first prize and Oistrakh second.A former teacher of mine who was there told us Oistrakh was indeed better, but that there was a strong atmosphere of ant-semitism at that competition (at that time) which he always felt to have been the cause of Oistrakh not winning. Who knows? Both great violinists.

  • @petrof4056 Sorry, but I have to interfere. I understand that some people might get tired of listening Oistrakh sometimes and everybody has his own taste.But Oistrakh it is considered simply a Great Master for the simple fact that he was a Master. A phenomenon that put his print in music for all his stuning recordings. Lets try not oversize Neveu. She might have won 1st prize over Oistrakh in their youth. But she is a wonderful , fantastic and unique player....without the aura of a master.

  • Just listen to Brahms and Sibelius to compare. For instance 3rd movement of Brahms it is simply, withount mentioning the countless reasons, somewhere 2 classes lower than Oistrakh.

  • An unusual and sentimental approach to this wonderful piece--made so famous by Heifetz.

    Of course, her playing is extraordinary and individual.
