coke addicts say the same least smokers dont have to sell there house and go out scrumping for cars to feed it but at this rate looks like they will ,i gave up when i and my body was ready not cos i was told, my peak was 70 pound a week on cigs and 90 on booze id have happly gone without the odd pizza , toothbrush ,nice coat ,bill and spent more if i could turn back the clock so i doubt it makes much diffrents,i personally wouldnt empty the pockets of an addict specially when they work for it

To change people from the (counter intuitive) habit of smoking, you have to acknowledge the root problem.

Some people ...no, most people smoke to piss other people off (rebellious), and the rest of them smoke because perhaps they believe it will takes much effort to quit.

won't discourage kids at all, i doubt they'll equate a 5% tax increase into their decision to try aquire cigs..

people that already buy loads a day will continue to, they'll just be slightly more outta pocket.

people that already hate how much cigs cost here will be given even more incentive to import, and bigger incentive to sell them, leading to an influx of dodgy cigs.

the only people an increase of an overly taxed item would sound smart to is smoking witchhunters and the government...
