Did anyone notice how Peter paints a door with a knob on the left side and the boys open it from the right? The point of the door and knob was for them to get out. If they did it from the right side then they could have gotten out the whole time. So stupid.
@Quidam rofl Obviously, they have to increase their numbers...to me it looks a lot like their Native blood has grown thin, due to Tiger Lily's platinum blond hair.
When i first saw this, i was about ...6 I think? But that was in about 2008, and when they opened that door, i was like....WOW!! MAGIC!!! its amazing what things in the FIFTIES can do ;)
i remember being little and asking mom to put on The-Girl-Peter-Pan. And our copy was recorded off of TV complete with 1980s commerials of products and toys that are really outdated. as wonderful as the disney version was, this one always gave me more ideas of games to play
Why the heck are John and Michael singing this? And why are they going along with selling their sister into domestic slavery to a group of random dudes they met like 10 minutes ago?
I was only born in 1987 and I still grew up with this version. I remember from this part, I always thought you had to draw a door on things to get through them... oh me...
@hupsutytto Of course it's a woman playing Peter. This musical was written with the intention that Mary Martin (the woman seen here) would play Peter. Furthermore, in subsequent revivals, a woman has always played the character, in no small part because the songs for the character are written to be sung by a woman, since finding a young boy whose voice hasn't deepened and can act well enough to carry the show is nigh impossible.
to be honest, if wendy was flying around like that shrieking the way she does, i'd have shot her too. but i still love the movie!! i have ever since i first saw it way back when (well, the 90's). my grandma had the vhs and me and my cousins would watch it all the time. somehow, it never bothered me that peter was played by a woman.
@LacyLuvsGodiva Yeah, it never seemed to faze me that he was played by a female either. I even think that the first couple times I watched it I didn't really notice until my parent's mentioned to me that women would often play male roles in the past, particularly in Peter Pan. Great play though. I hope my kids will love it as much as I did when i was little. Wow, it will be realllly old by then.
It's interesting how little kids seem to think all this sillyness is perfectly normal.
when john comes out of the house, his tophat hits the door frame, rolls down his back he cathces it and puts it right back on hahahaha...not in script, at least my father said....he woudl know....he was john!
@AnnaYed I think she's supposed to be kind of saying it to herself. But the actress who plays Wendy is a LITTLE too over dramatic. I wondered the same thing when I was a kid, but I have since taken theater classes where I have known people that tend to act like that.
@AnnaYed in the book by JM Barrie, it's actually Tinker Bell saying it. Tinker Bell stole Wendy away from the group and was pinching her while she was flying, and she kept saying Poor Wendy to get the boys' attention :)
@AnnaYed Yeah the musical doesn't really explain that. In the book though it does. When they first get to Neverland, Hook shoots a canon at Peter, Wendy and her brothers. They are seperated from the explosion, and Wendy is blown far away. She gets lost and can't find Peter. She starts flying around the island in search of him. And being a big cry baby kept yelling "Why did I get seperated? Why me? Poor Wendy! Poor Wendy!" They cut all that out though but left the poor wendy part.
@AnnaYed In the book, am I the only one whose read it? though it is kinda weird, and it's understadable if you haven't, but in the book that's what she cries because she's really tired. (they were supposed to have been flying for weeks).
we're doing a production of peter pan. The girl playing Peter has a beautiful voice and so do the lost boys, but they ALWAYS slow down in the "we have a mother, at last we have a mother"
That is precisely where that comes from! In the original book, she was nearly killed by the lost boys and Peter made her a little house to live in while she recuperated, calling it The Wendy House. To this day, the name has stuck.
I just want to say thank you ten thousand times for uploading all this. My VHS is about 18 years old and starting to wear down a bit. I have always loved this version, even moreso than Disney. Thank you thank you thank you for giving it to me again.
Michael is supposed be the youngest but i think that Tootles looks younger than Michael. I agree w/ the hush comment. Also where did they get the house frame? lol
girls are much to clever to fall out of their prams...says Peter Pan in the movie with Jermey Sumpter...
And the boys want to know the ending to a chic flic story because they are just kids that never grew up they are still children at heart so as children they want to hear all those fairy tale stories...In the movie yeah the boys look sixteen or so but that's not what they are portraying...
The oldest Lost Boy (the one who shot the Wendy) is William Snowden, who played Friedrich von Trapp in the original Broadway production of 'The Sound of Music,' starring Mary Martin as Maria, the year before (1959).
I don't think it has a reasonable explanation, but it suits the whole situation very well, makes the atmosphere so sad... at least in the book and when you're a child
she is royalty, she's the princess, and I'm GUESSING the directer wanted her to stand out like she was, with the long blonde hair. so yeah she's blonde.
it was written that way, it could also be that children, like Peter Pan and the lost boys, that have never supposed to have had schooling say the lines. duh.
HAHAHA I love this so much...when I was a little kid I took my Mom's lipstick and drew a door and Wendy all over the furnitre,I got in trouble but it was well worth it,I just love this Peter Pan, Thanks for posting it!
lol i never caught it right away, but i noticed later when i was little, that they open the door, on the OPPOSITE side of the door knob lol also... it confused me when she was like "poor wendy! poor wendy!" whats that about??? lol
