he is definitely 3 (standard years)). chinese years would label him as 4 since we count the time spent in the mother's womb as life, rounding up to call the kid age 1 at birth. Obviously this kid isn't 2 standard years old if we were counting by 3 chinese years.
If count in Chinese age 3 at film time. He should be "TWO" the real age at that time. Because chinese count the time in mom's tummy as the very first year.
The lady announcer said that he started practice at age two and half. So, that's mean in half year he learned Quan(boxing), Jian(sward) and Push Hand(the exercise need two people to practice together). What a memory for this age! So lucky to have a wonderful father as a beginning teacher(啟蒙老師)
