I really hope he adjust. If Jake were to lose I wouldn't want it to be because of cardio. A prime Jake Shields vs. a prime GSP is an amazing fight. GSP has never been tested by someone who specializes in Jiu Jitsu. Before people start saying BJ Penn remember that the vaseline on GSP's shoulders prevent BJ from utilizing rubber guard. I don't think they put it on on purpose, but it was there. Jon Fitch, Dan Hardy, Matt Serra, Josh Koscheck. None used Jiu Jitsu against GSP.

I dont think its so much that they are friends, I think it would suck to fight a training partner because are you supposed to train together in camp? are you going to share the same coaches and training partners? lol Fitch doesn't have the best ground game in the Welterweight division. GSP is the best wrestler. He proved that against Fitch, Kos, Hughes, Penn and others. GSP said Fitch was his toughest opponent because he took so much damage, not because he presented a challenge. Fitch got his ass beat badly and would get it beaten even worse if he were to fight GSP again. Make no mistake about that.
I really think that Fitch is the most ducked fighter in the UFC. @Axel2992 Ok i could tell that your a GSP fan but just to show you what GSP did the first time him and Fitch fought in UFC 87 before the BJ Penn fight in UFC 94 "Vaselinegate part 1" shows GSP cornerman being busted putting vaseline on GSP back and torso and its speculated that GSP use the same tactic in all of his previous fights. But since UFC 94 they changed the rules so no fighter would get an unfair advantage. Thats why you see the fighter giving their trainer the good luck hug.

@MaladaptiveCatalyst Yes that may all be true but i think one of great elements about the UFC or MMA in general for that matter is that they can put on the fights the fans wanna see or at least they should. I was and Still am to some degree a boxing fan. One of the things that drives me nuts about boxing is how much power boxers have in terms calling the shots about whom they want or don't wanna fight. Take the Mayweather vs Paquiao thing, I just don't want MMA to follow the same path.
I guarantee you that the new UFC contracts for fighters will make every fighter obligated to fight any other fighter if his weight class, so these guys mine as well get with the new program now, or start looking for day jobs at their local Walmarts. Most of these kids are getting paid upwards of $100,000 to train for 3 months & fight in an octagon for 25 minutes, many people are out of work right now in the USA, so if these fighters are smart they shouldnt be biting the hand that feeds them.

The difference is that Silva is still a Middleweight operator, and machida is still a LHW. Them fighting NOW is a necessity, where as Fitch reckons he deserves another title shot in a stacked division.

The difference being that anderson is the champ at 185 and he has never talked about fighting for the BELT at 205. But kos and fitch are both contenders for the 170 belt, and to determine who should get it, contenders must fight one another.

@dreadedanarchist I believe a sport is something you do for fun. It's not "fun and games" in that ring. This is a business first. And the fighter's employment. Bottom line it depends on the payday. But for the peanuts that this guys are paid. It would not be worth it to me.

I can understand why Fitch wouldn't want to fight a friend, but if he wants a title shot he needs to do more than decision guys who aren't in the top 20. The first time they fought GSP dominated him in every aspect of the game. Dana obviously wants him to prove he's a better fighter than last time, and if you go on his last four performances he sure doesn't look that much better. Not bashing, he's a great fighter, but I have no interest in watching him fight GSP again.
Fitch is a busy Fighter on the ground, I wouldn't say he's overly exciting but he's always earning points and staying active.

I really hope he adjust. If Jake were to lose I wouldn't want it to be because of cardio. A prime Jake Shields vs. a prime GSP is an amazing fight. GSP has never been tested by someone who specializes in Jiu Jitsu. Before people start saying BJ Penn remember that the vaseline on GSP's shoulders prevent BJ from utilizing rubber guard. I don't think they put it on on purpose, but it was there. Jon Fitch, Dan Hardy, Matt Serra, Josh Koscheck. None used Jiu Jitsu against GSP.

Listen, neither Fitch or Kos (both w/better wrestling pedigree's than GSP) have any chance against him other than a puncher's hope in hell. Serra caught him with a lucky looping right hand to the side of the head. BJ marked up his face in their 1st fight w/solid hard punches but was never close to knowcking GSP out. I dont think its so much that they are friends, I think it would suck to fight a training partner because are you supposed to train together in camp? are you going to share the same coaches and training partners? It's tricky business when it gets down to the tech shit like that... that aside the reason they are so good is because everyone at AKA is high quality and if they do not want to fight each other that does not mean they shouldnt be training with each other.

GSP said Fitch was his toughest opponent because he took so much damage, not because he presented a challenge. @MaladaptiveCatalyst Yes that may all be true but i think one of great elements about the UFC or MMA in general for that matter is that they can put on the fights the fans wanna see or at least they should. I was and Still am to some degree a boxing fan. One of the things that drives me nuts about boxing is how much power boxers have in terms calling the shots about whom they want or don't wanna fight. Take the Mayweather vs Paquiao thing, I just don't want MMA to follow the same path.

I guarantee you that the new UFC contracts for fighters will make every fighter obligated to fight any other fighter if his weight class, so these guys mine as well get with the new program now, or start looking for day jobs at their local Walmarts. Most of these kids are getting paid upwards of $100,000 to train for 3 months & fight in an octagon for 25 minutes, many people are out of work right now in the USA, so if these fighters are smart they shouldnt be biting the hand that feeds them.

id like to see an organization that is purely strikes, kicks and punches. all stand up. this format whilst using mma gloves. no wrestling, grappling or jiu jitsu/judo. k-1 is close but they use those big poofy gloves. a sort of k-1 format with tiny gloves is the way to go, any financial backers out there need a promoter?

For once Dana actually has a point...you refuse to fight your friend then you refuse to get a new title shot, it's a personal and professional decision...now that being said, GSP needs real challengers, he's outgrown the division stomping out these american dweebs...time to graduate and move up a weight class.

GSP vs Spider. ldk how but this fight needs to happen. Either one loses the weight or the other gains it. Just agree on a division and fight, but l know it's easier said than done.

Make the Fitch vs Alves II happen now and if Fitch wins that then he's earned his title shot IMO...yes he's boring but his only loss in UFC is against GSP and is on a 4 win streak, a win over Alves would be big. If Daley beats Kos then Daley has earned his title shot too....if Kos beats Daley then have him rematch Paulo Thiago to determine the next #1 contender.

The difference is that Silva is still a Middleweight operator, and machida is still a LHW. Them fighting NOW is a necessity, where as Fitch reckons he deserves another title shot in a stacked division.
What if Kos beats Daley, then rightfully so, the no.1 contender fight should be between Kos and Fitch!!

John Fitch you are good, but you are not that good. GSP would kick your ass again. Fight Josh Koscheck, and then beg to Joe Silva. I don't believe you can ever take out GSP.

@YourWeedSucks Neither will Koscheck or Daley though. Kos has the best chance IMO. Fitch could beat Kos though. That's just how stylistically they match up. Daley is a striker, GSP would do what he did to Hardy. Koscheck is a wrestler with power, so GSP would have a hard time taking him down. Fitch is a grinder, he would grind on Kos and make him quit. But he couldn't do that to GSP. So really the best fight for GSP would be Kos, but the person who I think will fight him next is Fitch.

@xxpepperxx Umm he beat Kos 3 years ago? And he beat Fitch 2 years ago. I'm pretty sure they've improved since then. And are you implying that he would kill Silva? Hell no he wouldn't. Really for him to fight Silva he's going to have to go up weight. Anderson is going to have a hell of a time dropping to 170. But if they do fight Anderson Silva will make GSP look like he should have never joined the UFC. He's so much bigger and stronger than GSP, GSP won't be able to get a hold of him.

The difference being that anderson is the champ at 185 and he has never talked about fighting for the BELT at 205. But kos and fitch are both contenders for the 170 belt, and to determine who should get it, contenders must fight one another.

@DieHardCards thats damn true! And if anything, the fans want to see that fight more than any other. GSP says the same thing actually, he won't train with people that might want to fight him in the future (but I think generally he has bigger guys in his camp-not welters). I think also BJ had Florian and Sanchez train with him before they eventually wanted to fight him.
Dana's right though.... he doesnt want to fight Kosh, then he doesnt want it enough.

@dreadedanarchist I believe a sport is something you do for fun. It's not "fun and games" in that ring. This is a business first. And the fighter's employment. Bottom line it depends on the payday. But for the peanuts that this guys are paid. It would not be worth it to me.

Don't get me wrong though I definitely agree these guys should be payed a good amount but this is an individual sport in which you should be pitted against anyone who can give you a run for your money, teammate or not.

real friends would give each other the opportunity to get a title shot. if that means fighting each other than so be it. if they couldnt compete and still be friends then the friendship wasnt very strong to begin with.

I can understand why Fitch wouldn't want to fight a friend, but if he wants a title shot he needs to do more than decision guys who aren't in the top 20. The first time they fought GSP dominated him in every aspect of the game. Dana obviously wants him to prove he's a better fighter than last time, and if you go on his last four performances he sure doesn't look that much better. Not bashing, he's a great fighter, but I have no interest in watching him fight GSP again.
