If you love the music of Stephen Houpt, you would probably enjoy Sain Marna too. I've recently found the recordings of this musician on YouTube and was very surprised how much some Pakistani folk played on ektara can be similar to slow resonator guitar blues.
i lilsten to alot of metal, slayer and stuff you know. But i really like this music, it sounds very good, its chill, relaxing. Ilove it, u got my thumbs up m8
I'm just getting into guitar and I really want to play classical guitar but I have no idea where to get started. The problem is I'm a lefty, so not many stores carry beginner lefty guitars, any tips on where to look and what guitar to get?
Can't help but think of a sexy woman walking down the side of a hot, empty highway. Sexy, tragic, ethereal, dangerous. Something simple and clean like you played strikes me at the core and makes me sway slightly from side to side with a smile on my face. I have always loved the sound of a National played with loving fingers.
This reminds me of my growing up in Duck Hill Mississippi. My pappy used to play some slide guitar. Youre dang good and I love the sound. I can see that it runs deep man. It aint exactly the blues but I love the tuning and sliding. I've probably seen each of your videos like at least twenty times each. Thank you. Its always good to hear some folk who still have the good stuff in 'em
theas trycones are all the same FANTASTIC I have never heard a bum one I have heard bum gibsons & fenders not that I woulden't have one buy wouls listen to it befor handing the cash over I feall like I could buy a trycone through the mail even as expensive as they are they don't crack or warp you can travel with them I can hardly bring Myselfe to take My 1917 gibson A1 mandolin out of My climat controled bedroom
The richness and pace of your playing is refreshing. It takes me back to when I was a poor black child giggign frogs and catching crawdad with my Grampappy back in Natches, Missisip.
Unfortunately, this guitar costs about $2800 new. You might be able to find a used one for about $2100. I paid $2500 new for mine a few years ago. In retrospect, I think it was money very well spent.
yeah but 83king could easily buy a different brand for much less. for example, on ebay right now they have a guitar just like this for 500, i think it may be a johnson they dont say, but it is deffinetly a modern tricone resonator like the one you have here (although not as nice as a national version im sure)
Regal Tricones can be hit and miss, but they are reasonably priced.
If you try one out and it has less volume than a regular acoustic, pass on it. A good regal will be almost indistinguishable from a real National tricone.
Regal makes a pretty decent spider bridge model as well.
Older regals were made in the Czech Republic. They were sometimes alright. Newer ones are made in China I think. All the Regals I have heard sound thin. I have never heard a Regal that sounded anywhere near as good as a National.
I have a national tricone, built in 1997. It's a dang sweet guitar.
The regal tricones can be good, but I have tried some really horrible versions. I just don't like the neck, they aren't as wide, and some of the more minor features, such as the mesh over the cones is kind of cheap.
I guess I've tried out some decent Regals.
If you'll notice, old national spider bridges were plywood. New regals have real wood.
I love your national. great tone.love the glass slide. what year was it made? I have a regal tricone, and play with a glass slide also. my regal has more of a "junkie" sound , which is cool. but I love the smooth sound of a national. you definetly pay alot more money for that smooth sound, but the junkie sound is all I can afford right now. Great Playing man. keep it up. Peace....
I've been playing guitar overall for about 40 years, but I definitely am better at slide guitar and open tunings than at all the rest. Slide feels natural to me, opens easy areas of emotional expression.
Brilliant. This is why as a guitar player I love You Tube, you have access to all kinds of cool bands and musicians. This inspires me to learn some blues. How long did it take you to master this?
I think I've been playing slide guitar for about four years. I learned a lot from the Bob Brozman instructional DVD's. Also helps to have a great guitar and a great slide, and great strings (National tricone, Diamond bottleneck, Newtone National heavy phosphor bronze). Thanks for the feedback. Got a long way to go though.
It is in fact open D tuning. I also sometimes like to tune the whole guitar down a half step from open D to open C#. Remember that I have very heavy strings on the guitar too. 16-59
Cool sound; Unique in sounding both modern and traditional in style. I could picture both Robert Johnson and Jerry Douglas as I listened. Exceptional.
If you love the music of Stephen Houpt, you would probably enjoy Sain Marna too. I've recently found the recordings of this musician on YouTube and was very surprised how much some Pakistani folk played on ektara can be similar to slow resonator guitar blues.

Your playing would be my end goal in music.

It's mechanically amplified by three aluminum cones vibrating inside the metal body.

i believe a tricone has 3 Cones in it instead of just the 1. not 100% sure though.

True. A tricone has three cones connected by an aluminum T-bridge. A Dobro has one cone with a spider bridge.
