Finland fought Winter War without any help, but in the Continuation War Hitler gave finns 220 000 soldiers and let them buy weapons, vehicles, airplanes etc. because finns tied 1 million Red Army soldiers on Karelian front and Hitler didn't want those million russians to come after his troops in Leningrad and Stalingrad. Finns didn't like nazis at all, but they needed help against Soviets. War ended and in Lapland War (44-45) finns kicked germans out from Finland.
@JDC160 ... Finland started to retreat, because Soviet started their grand offensive. Finland had to leave from Karelia but managed to stop communist's attack in summer 1944 with help of Germany. Stalin really wanted to conquer Finland but failed hard to do it. First we defended well and then we also crushed their defence in Karelian Isthmus. In continuation war it was 530k finns and 220k germans against 1 500 000 russians. 65k finns and 200k russians died. No help from USA, only Germany helped.

Russian main tactic was, as you can see from this video, just gather as many men as possible and start running towards finnish defending lines. They didn't even know what "flanking" means.

The clip is from the end of the film "Talvisota" (why can't people name their sources) which gives a fairly authentic picture of the Winter War. In this war, the Finnish army was poorly equipped (initially, many soldiers even had no uniforms) and had insufficient ammunition.Their knowledge of the terrain and excellent grasp of the requirements of combat in winter, however, gave them a good kill ratio.

@verwoerd not very true. i read that finland had very well made weapons. the m28 mosin was proven to be more accurate and better made than the m91/38. finland did lack tanks. but there soldiers were extremely well trained and armed with m31 smg and molotovs. ambushing weapons convoys. capturing many russian armor weapons. and ammunition.

Stalin really wanted to conquer Finland but failed hard to do it. First we defended well and then we also crushed their defence in Karelian Isthmus. In continuation war it was 530k finns and 220k germans against 1 500 000 russians. 65k finns and 200k russians died. No help from USA, only Germany helped.

@JLOStudios What do you mean? In Winter War, ruskies were the bad guys... They started the war, tried to capture Finland and make it Soviet-Finland, transform finnish people to Siberia etc.. Luckily russians are always russians (=they couldn't do shit when Finnish Army defended it's homeland). Russian main tactic was, as you can see from this video, just gather as many men as possible and start running towards finnish defending lines. They didn't even know what "flanking" means.

Second world war taught us that even if you try to stay neutral and out of the way, you still get into war. And we never want to fight alone again. If a nuclear war comes and bombs drop all around the world, finland doesn't get hit very hard. Sure, our capital and other minor targets are destroyed but a majority of soldiers reamin and fight even harder than before.

What the hell is going on? Why are the Russians running away from a small force of Finnish soldiers? Who got shot near the end, and why was he trying to attack another soldier with a club of all things? Maybe this video has a lot of dislikes because its so hard to understand what's going on for someone who isn't familiar with the Winter War, or its just edited poorly (probably the latter).

The clip is from the end of the film "Talvisota" (why can't people name their sources) which gives a fairly authentic picture of the Winter War. In this war, the Finnish army was poorly equipped (initially, many soldiers even had no uniforms) and had insufficient ammunition.Their knowledge of the terrain and excellent grasp of the requirements of combat in winter, however, gave them a good kill ratio.

@verwoerd not very true. i read that finland had very well made weapons. the m28 mosin was proven to be more accurate and better made than the m91/38. finland did lack tanks. but there soldiers were extremely well trained and armed with m31 smg and molotovs. ambushing weapons convoys. capturing many russian armor weapons. and ammunition.

@88pie88 Quality may have been superior, but they simply did not have enough of it.
A.K. Cajander who preceded the wartime president Kallio had been proud that his government did not "waste" money on weaponry and uniforms - so when the Soviets started making territorial demands against Finland, they tried to buy all weaponry they could procure at short notice but shortages of ammonition was precarious all along the war.
So yes, what they had was good - but there was too little of it.

@htcfagg because it is fiction film not reality TV. if you want to see running then try georgian army in conflict with russia in august 2008. nato trained geogian army run away after 5 days of fights. that is the reality.

@OtakuPraetorius Agreed! If someone say that the Finns are overpower, I only say look at statistics. The kill/death ratio compared to the russians are amazing, meaning that they had to do a hell of a good job! Anyway, great video!
