Typically, the horrors of silent hill (the area and monsters) are creations of someone's mind. Sometimes it's the main character (Sh2 & 3), sometimes others. Call it some waking nightmare. Each monster represents something about the character involved.

Whether they are REAL or a hallucination is up to debate (some theories state that you're actually killing normal animals and people that you SEE as monsters): the fact it's unsure is part the fascination/horror.

yea you are right.but this games's monster were mainly made/innovated by the movie silent hill,unlike the past series .monster can be hallucination of the embody of the evil(samuel?)

It's one of those "small goal turns into a BIG issue" thing. Main character came to look for his brother.

The thing is, Silent Hill is known for a very powerful demon-god worshiping cult that ends up causing lots o fodd issues. #1 best thing is to watch the other silent hill walkthroughs. For now, know that these stories love to hit you with "Everything you know is wrong".
