burning video files to dvd

PLEASE HELP!!! I've been trying for 3 days now to burn an avi file onto DVD and no matter what I do it still says its 4 minutes too long to fit on the DVD. I've tried converting it to mpg, I've tried DVD Shrink and I'm next to giving up. Please someone help me and walk me through it as I'm a complete novice, how can I get it to fit?

@scrawley123 try dvd flick to convert it. its freeware so u dont have to pay money. id tell you how but i dont have time. sorry. I've seen so many tutorials on how to use it though on youtube. just type in dvd flick tutorial on youtube. Hope this helps. HAPPY PIRATING!!

no you would have to encode them in to vob files via the make a dvd with nero tutorial
