@lameristotel a lot of people say that, but the way I see it, pay more for the 'right' system up front, instead of replacing subs and amps every other year.... JLs are built to last... if they aren't treated like SPL subs, which they're not
@lameristotel I'm very biased when it comes to car audio, and only like a few brands, but I haven't heard DC in person... their subs look pretty decent on the vids I've seen, but without hearing them up close, or knowing how their SQ is, I have yet to know... youtube can make even JL systems sound like inferior products
You spent 500 on a box, you got ripped offf big time. I have an Alpine type X 12 in a ported, custom built with an alpine logo exactly what you are talking about for 225. Go onto onlinecarstereo that sub is 336. The box looks way to small for a w6 btw. How many cubic feet???
Actualy I have a w6 in a box like this guy and you will be surprised how good it sounds and I have it in a dodge intrepid..I was surprised myself really..But as you said,it will probably sound better in a bigger box..But I don't know if it would sound better in a ported box or a sealed box..
ok for all the people who keep saying i got ripped you dont know what you are talking about. you have not seen the box and it is like nothing you have ever seen and if you did see it then you would understand why it was 500 because it was not just a box it was a big box a front cover with a custom piece of plexi glass tht is laser etched blue light to go in the plexi glass and then the back has a cover so it seems flush mounted into the back seat with a hole for the amp stop acting like u no
Nice Vid .... Did the sub come with that box? Assuming that it's a 12 you should try a 1.338 cu. ft. sealed box with a angled front. Less standing waves = more cleaner output. Try Bass Box 6 PRO. That program has W6 info built in it and show exactly how the sub will act in said enclosures.
Rock On, "Who needs to knock when you have BASS!!"
you do know these move so much air it would blow a 1.338 box clean apart!! they recommed useing the boot of the car as the enclosere, and subs that do that are seriosly hadcore subs but these jl's are!!!
r u talkin down w6s cuz if u r then u have never had them in a right box. i paid 2 grand for my custom box and all the shit around it and these will blow anything away.
I'm not talking them down at all I just think they are over-priced since there are underground subwoofer companies with the same SQ & SPL for much less $. I was just referring to "Vikkiandbradley07s" statement of blowing a box apart. It takes A LOT of wattage to do that in which a W6 could not. I had my 10" W6 in a sealed JL powerwedge(which should be the right box eh?) on a Alpine MRP-M850 and the SPL was kind of disappointing. W6's are great subs but they certainly won't blow everything away.
i just got mine in a new ported box and the port is about 30 inches high and is 1 inch wide and 29.5 inches long and the box is about 3 cubic feet and it is at 2 ohms and this thing POUNDS!!! the box cost a lot and it was def. worth it. and the powerwedge and all other boxes that jl sells to b used with their subs are terrible. idk y but they just sound bad. that may be why u experienced what u did
Sweet. The only JL pre-fab box worth the money are the W7 High Output boxes. They can make horrible subs sound half-way decent. I'm not into sealed boxes anyway. If a ported box is built well (structurally) and tuned perfectly for the sub(s) along with adequate power, it can sound almost as good as a seal box.
i agree that is the only one tht sounds good. i just dont like any pre fab box because even if it is made for the sub it is not made for the car. custom is the only way to go.
no i didnt the sub was 550 and the amp 500 then i spent about 500 on the box and another 500 on all of the other things i got put into it. the rear deck is ported the amp is flush mounted with the back seats when you pull them down with light glowing around the hole where you c the amp and then there is a custom cover with a laser etched plexi glass piece with the mercedes logo and blue lights that beat to the music. i got a fucking great deal because i go to car shows for cartoys
how do i not know what im talking about. you need at least 12-16 cubic inches of port area PER cubic foot. if not you get port noise on low notes. dont say shit about me when you dont know shit about me.
and whos to say my port is not long enough........u dont know the specs on my box so like I SAID IN THE BEGINNING dont say shit bout stuff you dont know about. and if you do the math (which im sure you cant) you will come up with 4% port noise which is VERRRRRRRY LOW so you dont know what you are talkin bout. every sub needs dif. specs and if you get down to competition boxes its not as simple you have to take into account the airspace around te box the shape of the car the inside airspace
of the cabin and the shape of the surface that the sir is hitting before you hear it. clearly you dont know that so to say that for every cubic foot u need 12 cubic air space of port is bull shit. every sub needs dif. things. i hope you dont build boxes for anyone other than a 16 year old with a sony.
I know you wrote this forever ago, but you apparently know something. Which do you think would hit harder? A W6v2 in a sealed box, or in a HO box from JL?
honestly it depends on what you listen to if you like rock and listen to it mostly then go with the sealed box. it wont be as loud and deep but it will hit very hard and very tight. i personally think that the jl boxes that they sell for their subs are bad. the jl w7 sounds like a whoppie cushion in the damn thing, but i would go with the sealed if you like rock

Box...$25
Plexiglas...$30
Blue cathode...$20
If I were to use $500 for an enclosure, I would go get a T-Line...

not going to argue with that, especially when it takes longer to write out "dub" over "W"... haha
