I wouldn't really call it "an Isaac Hayes cover version"... It just has the same descending chord sequence -- though I believe George Harrison used it before Hayes. Just look for While My Guitar Gently Weeps, he wrote that for The Beatles album which was released in 1968, before Hayes' Black Moses

The most you can say is that they sampled an Isaac Hayes song... And I don't think that makes it any less original, or any less f***ing brilliant

Exactly. "Trip-hop", to use the overarching term most of these bands hate, uses a lot of samples and old ideas while adding things to bring them into our modern society. It's a higher art form, ESPECIALLY compared to shit like lady gaga, lil wayne, and the jonas brothers.
