I am a huge Dessay fan, but this is, singing wise, as good as Dessay did it in the Paris production. To me the difference is that, for me, Dessay is the best actress in opera now.
And yes, I do realize that the only version I have seen by Natalie (about twenty times) is a bootleg video, made from the audience, with occasional heads getting in the way and crappy sound. So, what I think is that Natalie can give up the sound qualitry of the Paris bootleg to see her do the role. Unbellievable!!
Belles plages sonores.

This is a great performance of this beautiful aria. I own two recordings of Alcina - one is the late 90's version with Fleming & Dessay, the other is the recent version with DiDonato & Gauvin. I have to say that I prefer the more recent version; DiDonato is a superior Baroque singer and Gauvin is divine. If you haven't heard it, check it out.
I saw `Alcina`at the English National Opera, the music is so beautiful, subsequently been to see `Semele` which featured Ian Bostridge and last year `Partenope`. Why oh why can they not be set/dressed appropriately. IT IS NOT CLEVER FOR `PARTENOPE` TO BE SET IN 1920`S PARIS.
This is the sound of the heaven. marvellous!!

I love this rendition and also the Dessay's one but the one that Emma Kirkby sings is the best! and is also the one that sounds more baroque.

Good one, but I miss the high E in the end.

Try Natalie Dessay ;)

Sure, it's her I thought about. :)

High E at the end is NOT written, obviously, so Bayo doesn't sing it :)

Sure, but I wish people would embellish and improvise the da capo more these days, its why Dessay's is nice.

very good,brava.
However,Sutherland's rendition is still my favourite.

I love Dessay as Morgana, but this rendition sounds more baroque to me :)

plus she doesn't sing it because she doesn't have it!
