@businessmam: He had the space to land behind the plane taking off, but if the other plane had to abort it's takeoff for any reason, he may have been in trouble. However, the runway appeared to be able to accommodate 2 single engine aircraft no problem, so, I suppose in the end you're right. It's like driving though, you never know what the other guy is gonna do when you're/they're a fresh single engine pilot.
@appleglory i was talking on the phase itself not the sequence mate ;)
am an A320 pilot myself,,makes me forget those planes,,you go from confg. full to conf.3 then to conf1 straight away....but the sequence stays the same tho
@appleglory yep,,did it in florida,,FAA dont take more than 8 months,,i admit its not the best license compared to JAA And AUS...where are you doing it?
@spikey851 Ive finished my ICAO CPL in New Zealand 2 months ago. I'm curious how you are an A320 pilot? What airline is that for? Im guessing you are a first officer if you were one
@appleglory i work for Airarabia in sharjag,,i finished in august last year and got my type rating in september,,n got the job last february,,of course F/O ,,no one starts a captain straight away!
It's not fun until they put 3 in front of you and you have to turn away from the runway and then go around because some damn CRJ is sitting there on the runway.(The Norm for DAB)
@bodkins01 I´m a pilot, and better than this, i´m a flight instructor and i have 761 h of flight...I have faced situations like that a lot of times and none of them ended in an incident...
@businessmam Yeah, but if I was on short final like that, I wouldn't want to wait around to see if the guy is doing a short field take off or a rolling take off.
I finished my PPL training a WHP many years ago (1993) and during busy weekends the tower would give a clearance like "N12345 clear for takeoff 12, expedite, traffic 2 mile final". In this situation the bonanza probably checked in on a 3 mile final and got a landing clearance also, so in effect both aircraft got a clearance at about the same time. I doubt the tower at WHP would just look the other way. If there was doubt they'd ask the pilot to call the tower by phone after a full stop landing.
One of the cooler plane vids I've seen. It looks like you remained calm and didn't want to scream at any one. I guess he should pay you for the extra gas to go around,,,,
good flight, but your making fairy seep turn, while being way too close, and slow to the ground. I would have powered up a lot more, climbed to 2000(patter alt. at white man), retrimed, and everything, and then would have made a nice complete pattern for another approach.
Thanks! The reasoning behind the steep turns was to expedite the traffic pattern because the other fellow was also flying the pattern. The Bonanza is fast and we had to cut our crosswind earlier to scoot ahead of him. It may be hard to tell but I did go to full throttle, stayed to the right and climbed to 2,003ft MSL (TPA) to set up for the approach. Thanks for the comment!
Oh did you! lol wow, my bad. Sounded like RPM was about 21, or 22 hundred. Very nice control of the plane though. I fly the 172 with Glendale College, and Vista Air. got my PPL 2 weeks ago. Is that your own plane?

Flaps up when you go around --especially on this aircraft..
spikey851 1 year ago 3
@spikey851 Not right away...sinkage....look at 1:05 and you will see the flaps are up before the steep turn back into the downwind.
dpgtime 1 year ago
@spikey851 Full power first, positive rate, clear of terrain, THEN flap up. Getting rid of that last stage, you lose a lot of lift

@spikey851 looked like takeoff flaps to me.. perfectly normal. and add power and get a climb rate before cleaning up to T/O flaps.

Good maneuvre, but in my opinion, you had enough time to proceed on your approach and land...
businessmam 1 year ago 3
@businessmam
Possibly could have continued the approach but remember the old saying "There are old pilots and bold pilots, but there are no old, bold pilots."
dpgtime 1 year ago 15
@dpgtime I completely agree with you, and if all the pilots were like you, the accidents rates would decrease a lot...

@dpgtime completely agree, you were in charge you made a decision to go around, good job.

@businessmam That would be to assume the other aircraft took off normally and cleared the runway..

I'd like to have heard the tower chew him a new one; T.O. w/out clearance is a cardinal aviation sin.

Strange enough the tower never said anything to him that I heard....but they were awfully nice to me after the incident!
