What I find interesting about this episode is this, today there is so much talk about our hidden abilities of "manifestation". The power to "make" things happen in your life with just changing your thoughts. well in this episode notice how they went to a planet, where everything that they thought about this planet produced it right before there eyes. what is interesting is what did Gene Roddenberry or the writer of this episode know back then to write this story? Many say that it works like this
One of my favorites as it is the longest fight scene in Star Trek. Some say Kirk's worse fight scene is with the Gorn. I didn't think so, the worst one was from Star Trek 6: The Undiscovered Country. Another big monster in that one and when he fights against himself or rather Iman morfed into Kirk.. The problem was it wasn't long enough one two and it was over. I expected to be long but it was way too short. OK both them rolling over Dr. Mccoy was funny
Hey by the way there's a Canadian actor named James Kirk hehehe, see him on Wikipedia. And he actually played in the sci-fi series Caprica. Hopefully he's a better actor than that mediocre William Shatner.
One of the Best Fight Scenes in Star Trek History. The Fights Kirk had with Finnegan,Khan,Captain Ron Tracey ( Great !,one of My Favorites and played to the hilt by both actors .) a few other ones and the Fight at the OK Corral in the Wyatt Earp/Tombstone Arizone episodes were the Best on Television and on Trek. Commander Riker ( Sounds Tough, Doesn't it ? ) Never, ever had one Fight like Kirk's. Somebody went to work each day with Drive,Motivation,Enthusiasm,Energy and Ambition.
@Roadracer987654321 , I agree that Kirk and Finnegan's brawl is the best fight scene in all of Star Trek. The only fight I recall involving Commander Riker was in the episode "Conspiracy", in which Riker got his butt whooped by Admiral Quinn.
@Roadracer987654321 not sure if it'll show up - afraid I accidentally voted it down but meant to vote it up! So tried to just now vote it up. lol I agree. I loved this one too.
What's really memorable about this scene is how Kirk's tunic gets mysteriously shredded after he gets knocked unconscoius, and it wasn't the backflip that ripped it.
For the record, the torn shirt was the same one from the end of "Court Martial." Star Trek was so strapped for cash, they had to reuse previously-destroyed garments.
@Charmolution I guess it tore Tonia Barrows tunic (twice--check it out. The tunic that is torn by Don Juan is not the same dress she puts on at the end of the episode--and they had to reuse Kirk's torn shirt!) as well. :) What a guy....
god I hate stage Irish accents, but on the plus side, Kirk had to go to a fantasy planet to beat up an Irishman, it obviously doesnt happen in reality
@basherman69 Oh really? Vasquez Rocks? Thanks for the info. I really appreciate it 'cause that same place has come out in several movies and it's been sort of irking me not knowing where that was.
Jeez, how many times did they use this film location? Isn't that the same rock they show in the first few seconds that Kirk rolled the boulder down on the Gorn from?
lol. Yeah, one of my issues with alternate timelines is also one of the things I like about it: a clean slate. Cool for future movies if they do it right, annoying when kick ass characters aren't still there...
Finnegan wasn't in the new "Star Trek" movie because it took place in an alternate timeline where Kirk actually joins starfleet academy later than he did in the "prime" timeline. Also, in the alternatr timeline who is to say Finnegan himself was even in Starfleet at all?
I know. One of my favorite fight scenes in all of Trek is in the episode Mirror, Mirror when Kirk, McCoy, Uhura and Scotty are fighting evil Spock and Kirk head buts Spock. Spock looks at him like "is that all you got."
That Finngan guy is hilerious! "Hey Jim baby, i see you brought up reinforcements!" He should be in the new film - some random irish guy fighting kirk!

Kirk's sheer manliness caused the shirt to tear by itself.

With the exception of a couple of fights in the last series Enterprise, non of the Star Trek spin-offs have had fun fight scenes like the original.

@rideon77 Hahahaha ! ! !
The Gorn Rock.
I never noticed that.
It's an actual place in California. Keanu Reeves was on it walking around in Bill & Teds Excellent Adventure or Bogus Journey. I forget which one.

@vassephardi Vasquez Rocks, just outside of Los Angeles.
