Porky has always had these deep-seated inferiority issues towards Ness. In Earthbound, he alternates between putting Ness down and trying to convince him that he's a cool guy, eventually going so far as to try to end the universe just to make Ness think he's someone important. But now that he IS someone important - king of the world, no less - he can't help but live in the past when he had that relationship. You see this in the cinema, and in the Memory Room with the objects from Ness's journey.

In some strange way Ness is probably the closest thing to a friend Porky ever had. It's kind of sad, really. Porky got so messed up and did such awful things that it's easy to get caught up on hating his guts and forget that originally he was just an uncool fat kid whose dad beat him. And I always got the impression from playing EB that he kinda wished he'd turned out to be one of the chosen children and the reason he teamed up with Giygas' was just because he wanted to be special too.
