  • The +p stands for pressure, not power. Extra pressure in the case. Love your videos though, great quality and real informative. I want one of these.

  • ya look like a big fag

  • +p = + pressure or over pressure.

  • it's cold a revolver not a pistol right?

  • My brothers freind Jake has one of these it's got a built in laser sight

  • great gun sootch00. ive got an s&w 637 airweight, i noticed lately that theres a cut/crack on the frame just beneath the barrel. i noticed it when i removed the cylinder. is it normal or due to the +p rounds i fired?thanks

  • $479 is a ripoff. You can get them new for under $400 if you shop around.

  • @ReservedRealist That's true...now. Back when he posted this video, that's the price they went for at shops. I know, because that's about what I paid back then.

  • got my 442 last week and shot the crap out of it.......its a keeper for sure and my new CCW...

nothing beats a wheelgun for reliability

  • i just put a model 36 no dash on lay away for xmas :)

  • Heads up...S&W is offering a 642, and 442 without a lock...limited to a prodution of 4,000, last heard about 1,000 remain the 642 model number is 103810 the 442 without lock is 150544

  • nice

  • wow man, if you pay over 400 for this gun brand new you are getting ripped off big time. i own the same pistol and paid 320 dollars brand new. with 2 boxes of ammo and a blackhawk serpa sprtster holster i have maybe a hair over 400 wrapped up into it. one of those boxes of ammo were the winchester supreme elite bonded pdx. 130 grain plus p. they are devestating. i suggest if you want to get a pistol for much cheaper than a gun shop, seek out your local ffl dealer.

  • @20kingman If you paid $320 NEW you got a really good deal...better than most people are gonna find.. MSRP on this revolver is $470. And We all know no one ever pays MSRP. BUT its very rare that you will pay 30% under MSRP....But I guess if the FFL doesn't want to carry it anymore or ordered to for some who never came to pick it up ect ect you might be able to get it for $320...But I wouldn't expect that kind of pricing. I would say the norm would be around $399. $70 bucks under MSRP

  • we were at a gun store/indoor range and we got a taurus and it was deffective, so we got a smith&wesson. (i didnt buy it, i am 13) but i got the pleasures of shooting a deffective .30 special. (it only shot once, then locked up while loaded and hammer back) We got the smith after the gunsmit told us the Taurus out had to be sent back to be fixed.the smith&wesson is a good .38 specil, much better than a taurus.

  • WHERE DO YOU LIVE?

  • Great video, it was helpfull in making my final decision on purchasing my first handgun for home defence. I got mine brand new this weekend for 399.99 at a place called Green Top in Ashland, VA. Also got a 25 dollar gift card with purchasing the gun so i got 20 rounds of personal defense ammo, so i felt like i got a good deal. The gun didn't come with a case though, just the cardboard box. My wife also likes the gun, its very easy to use. Thanks again.

  • April 11, 2011:

    MSRP is $449.00

  • That's for the Review Sootch. I just bought mine today new for $369. S&W dropped the price for it for this years promotion. (or whatever they call it.) When I went to the gun store, it was between the 442 and the excellent Ruger LCR. The trigger on the LCR was better than the 442 but the price combine with the fact that I didn't feel I needed the Houge grip on the LCR made my decision for me. Thanks for all you do.

    Peace Love and Firepower

  • I just picked up the 442 for myself 2-3 weeks ago. It's going to be great for concealed carry, especially once the weather gets nicer. Not to mention it's a lot lighter than the Glock 19 I carry currently! Great little pocket carrier. I definitely recommend it!

  • @AndyWetzel I carry this mostly in the summer when I am wearing light clothing, its still easy to conceal.

  • i recently went to a gun show in TN a couple days ago, and saw this gun selling for about $345. Is this usually what the gun goes for, or is this a screaming deal that one shouldn't pass up?

  • I believe S&W has lowered the price recently, according to a local dealer they are now going for $399 for the 438,442,,642 and 637

  • I believe S&W has lowered the price recentlyaccording to a local dealer they are now going for $399

  • Spent round is included as required by some state laws ( such as NY ) to be submitted to the state law enforcement agency with permit paperwork ad a means of identifying and tracking of the handgun

  • best review of this gun out there. and hickock has a great one too

  • sorry about the re-post, learning the forum here...

  • I just picked up a new S & W 442 at a local pawn shop having a smith and wesson sale for $289 (with military ID) normal sale price is $339 on the 11th and 12th of march. Jimmies pawn shop in fort walton beach florida, my wife loves it !! I'm sure if you shop around for sales you will find a good deal on one.

  • Don, today I sold my Charter Arms revolver. I got a very fair deal on it and am in the market for a nicer revolver for cc. My question is how is the finish on this gun? I woul like this gun over the 642 because I think it looks cooler. But this may be my only ccw for the next 2 years or so for daily carry. That said do you think the finish will hold up for this kinda use or should I just opt for the 642 so as to keep it looking nice? Thanks.

  • will not stand up to zombies unless your 100% accurate... and you my friend are not....no offense

  • Just noticing, you should be squeezing the trigger with the tip of your finger, not in the crease, it will keep you from pulling it off target.

  • Make those 5 shots count

  • im intrested in buying a pistol for around 200$ what do you think is a good option

  • @dexterlexter123 I just picked up a new S & W 442 at a local pawn shop having a smith and wesson sale for $289 (with military ID) normal sale price is $339 on the 11th and 12th of march. Jimmies pawn shop in fort walton beach florida, my wife loves it !! I'm sure if you shop around for sales you will find a good deal on one.

  • @dexterlexter123 the s&w sigma series are can be found for around $200's if your lucky.

  • @blitzkrieg459 but they are junk

  • @IowaHunter641 have you tried one out yourself. really the only negative thing about them is the trigger pull, but is a bit heavy for that type of pistol. Other then that, its a decent quality pistol IMO.

  • @blitzkrieg459 Ya i have shot a few and IMO they just dont feel well made to me very cheap I guess. The only thing I liked is how the grip feels.

  • does this have an internal hammer because i know that all the revolvers i've fired have had an external hammer and i never seen one without an external before

  • The 442 is a great option for CCW

  • Can you not count to 5? You always try to fire a 6th time? Are you expecting another shot? Lol

  • 3:17 NO IT DOESNT. it means plus pressure not plus power. and im 14

  • i'va carried one for 19 years, they are good stuff

  • Love your videos! They are well done and very informative. I've learned some good things from you. We both have similiar taste in handguns. Your opening statement about buying a new handgun. You discribe the S&W 442 as a pistol instead of a revelvor. Also, +P stands for plus pressure not power. Keep up the good work and thank you for doing them.

  • I have one of these and it is a good gun, but the cylinder slides past the little stop that has worn down cuz it is aloy. Do the Smith and Wessons have the life time warranty for repair? Also can you dry fire these?

  • @Shadowslamer Smith and Wesson has excellent customer service. Give them a call and they'll make it right, probably without you spending another cent.

  • howdy sootch :)

would you feel comfortable using this pistol for a bludgeon if you had to?

what i mean is do you think the aluminium is strong enough to take some abuse?

  • @DarkheartTheHeritic I'd use whatever I had to but studies have shown that even steel models should not be used as a club. It can make distort the gun and cause malfunctions. But again, if that's all I have.... I'd do it. Thanks~

  • @sootch00 ok thanks :)

  • @sootch00 ok umm i want a good handgun, revolver, shotgun, assult rife can u help me by naming some good ones for each

  • me empresta uma

  • iam really curious how the trigger pull is on these hidden hammer revolvers seeing as you can only shoot them in double action

  • Hey Sootch just bought the 442 love it . What would you say is a good cleaner ?

  • dude, im not an expert on guns but im sure thats a revolver and not a pistol

  • actually i think the +P meas plus pressure. but i might be wrong...

  • @bazengao Plus powder isn't it?

  • @manixman333 dunno... its hard to fill even more an already stuffed round, so that leaves the formula of the powder to be changed, i think they tweak the recepy to produce more gases thus producing more pressure, thats how i think they make the +P rounds(plus pressure). you might aswell ask some that is in the buiseness of chemetry or belics engineering cuz i really dunno... and if you find out anything pls chare i also would like to know that.^^

  • What's the difference between the S&W 642 and S&W 442? Just the finish?

  • @Carltanious The Model 642 is Stainless and the Model 442 is Blued.

  • Anybody know which gun would be better for ccw a sig p238 with sigs tactical laser or a s&w model 442 with a crimson trace laser. I own a p238 and model 442 but neither have those lasers on them right now. At the time I can only afford to buy one of those lasers. It's also the reason I've went from owning 60 firearms to 48. Damn finances.

  • great review.i love the small revolvers.i have owned great guns and at one time or another they failed in some way.even my glock 19 has jammed on me.the revolvers might only have 5 shots(carry two!)but the piece of mind it brings me is worth it.great videos sootch!

  • One can fire +Ps out of any steel frame S&W revolver provided it was made after 1958. Although I would not feed a steady diet of these higher pressure rounds with ANY .38 revolver.

Send a vote to S&W and DO NOT buy this version with the lock. There are plenty of NO LOCK 442/642s out there for sale, brand new. Around $450

BTW: There is probably no god to bless America with. But long live the Republic!

  • "+P" stands for PLUS PRESSURE.... revolvers are not pistols

  • I would giveaway my POS Taurus 85 if I could get somebody to take it. Save the money and buy a S+W. My only complaint is that the 442 blueing shows alot of wear and tear.

  • SOOOOOO-TCH

  • I bought a NIB no lock 442 in January 2010 for $445.00 out the door with a pocket holster & haven't left home without it, even when I carry a full size pistol. Love it!!!

  • @toddkokensparger I bought the "no lock" version myself for the same price last year. I never leave home without it! I WILL NOT purchase a lock with a revolver attached to it.

  • Bought it. Love it. Well made gun. Don't leave home without it.

  • damn it sootch you did it again... im sold... im going to purchase 442 next week!!! that is if i can get without the lock...

    like always great vid, thanks

  • Great and informative review! Just had to subscribe. Like your style. Thanks for the information and advice!

  • Sootch, just my $.02 about revolvers. While they are generally full proof, I believe that a bobbed hammer is necessary, particularly when you are shooting lead round nosed bullets like the ones in the video. After loading the gun, you can pull back the hammer slightly and spin the cylinder to make sure that the cylinder cycles properly. This will alert you to bullets that are improperly seated in their casings. I once had a failure to fire during a qualifying shoot w/ Remington ammo.

  • I bought this firearm for my wife's conceal carry gun. The issue she has with it is while shooting, the recoil hurts her hand. She has tried to cope with it but to no avail. She is afraid of the recoil so it stays in the safe. I do not have any problem with the recoil at all. I do armed security and use this for my backup firearm.

  • haha cool vid man, dont take this as an insult but yur face is really funny when you shoot, its like mega serious, lol

  • that loud and lovely gun

  • Seriously looking for a lightweight 38 like this- I think I may be only able to afford a another brand LOL......S&W is a great gun but 500 bucks is a bit steep...

  • @excelerater Check out Taurus model 85. They make good quality revolvers and a lifetime warranty.

  • @sootch00 .......Thats funny U should mention that,I just bought one of them 85s this weekend online on an impulse buy ,Buds had them on sale for 279.00 and I could not resist ....Should arrive tomorrow...My first revolver....I appreciate the comments and the vids.......Keep up the good work dood !

  • @sootch00 I have had crappy Taurus guns. It is a crap shoot unlike a S&W

  • @excelerater Make sure you do some extensive shopping. I just bought mine for 450 plus right now they are having a $50 mail in rebate for most J-frame revolvers like the one shown in this vid. So my S&W cost me only $400. Check out gun shows when they come around.

  • @excelerater

I bought mine used with no lock in like new cont for $300

  • @excelerater Buds gun shop online has the for 362

  • @excelerater sportsmans warehouse has the 642 for under $400.00

  • @excelerater if you have not gotten one yet check prices on the smiths again. I just got a smith and wesson .38+p air weight for 370 brand new.

  • now i want one but im to young to buy one dangit

  • nice review of the s&w 442 ^^

could tell me if you could make a review of the Ruger LCR ??? its looks a verry nice revolver ^^

  • holy crap $479.00, I could get a arsenal sgl-31 (ak-101 clone) for only $400.00

  • I'm gonna be packing one of these Model 442 Revolvers. Good gun. Question though, Can you get an ankle holster for them? Or some sort of holster to conceal it and can you buy pre made clips, so like instead of having to put them in individual they are on a piece of plastic or something and you can just slide them in, make for a quick reload xD Hard to explain what im talking bout but answer if you know and if you dont just answer the holster one lmao, Im gonna be subscribing.

  • question. You are going to the local coffee shop to read the paper and have a bagel...what are you packing? smitty 642 or sig p232. Did I mention it is summer time and hot and humid. Good videos scootch. Rock on.

  • @freestate239 I guess it would be more up to my mood than what's practical. The Smith is so light, but the Sig is so thin.... decisions, decisions. Here lately the S&W 442 has been my constant companion. Thanks Bro~

  • @freestate239

The 642 is a bit lighter than the P232, and it launches a more effective cartridge, the .38 Special +P. When you get into the GOOD ammo in .38+P (Speer Gold Dot 135 gr; Remington 158 gr "FBI" lead hollowpoint; etc.) you have something that is actually pretty effective. The .380 is not at that level.

If you can shoot a small revolver proficiently, I would go with the 642 because of its greater punch. If not, the P232 is a sweet little gun and easier to shoot accurately.

  • @freestate239 Even with summer clothing, it's possibly for most people to conceal a full-size 1911 or Glock, plus a backup such as this in your pocket. "One is none, two is one."

  • Cool video and nice wheel gun.

  • I own a Glock 26 and I think it is kind of heavy to carry IWB. I am thinking about getting the S&W 442. Do you think the SW 442 is much lighter and easier to carry than the Glock 26?

  • @MrDonutboi I had a Glock 26 and for the same reasons as you looked into one of these revolvers, ended up trading the 26 for a SW 637 (same size as the 442, but has an exposed hammer). It is lighter in my opinion and fits better in my pocket. I am glad I switched. But go handle one and compare to your Glock, then make a decision.

  • any worries on the lock accidentally engaging during firing?

  • @DarkheartTheHeritic From what I've read, only the scandium alloy revolvers have had any issues with the lock and that was on 3 pistols. There hasn't been a problem with the Aluminum Alloy ones. Thanks~

  • @sootch00 cool thanks thats re assuring :)

  • @sootch00 can you tell which models ?

  • @DarkheartTheHeritic Most of the problems you hear about happen to new guns, and not ones that have been shot; so if you picked a winner you should be fine with the lock, but hey Murphy's law.

  • Damn! Why did you get the S&W 442 with the lock? Plenty out there w/out them. The last thing I want is a revolver with a nasty keyed lock system. I know the young boys love it because it makes them feel fuzzy inside knowing a lock company cares about them. But to this cold hearted old timer has no use for it. So I bought the no lock version and supported this notion with my money.

BTW: I paid $445 for mine last year, brand new. Plenty no locks out there on the internet. Good video.

  • I like having more safty so I think I'll go with the automatic guns

you shoud try pulling the triger with the tip of your finger it reduces gun twisting

  • @Jackomason Have you ever shot a S&W Centennial? You try shooting it with the tip and you'll pull pull the barrel up. The double action only requires more pull.

I do a lot of Dry fire practice and the middle pad is the best.

I typically shoot with my first pad.

  • @sootch00 Is that Robert Johnson playing in the background?

  • @BluesSection The Music on the video is Steve Dennis, a close friend of mine. He produced all the music in him basement.

  • and do you know how the internal hammer works?

  • @DarkheartTheHeritic Yes, You can shoot the pistol with your thumb placed where the hammer usually is. The hammer functions the same as a standard version but is bobbed and the shroud covers it. Same basic gun, just enclosed hammer.... no snags. Thanks Bro~

  • @sootch00

thanks man thats one thing i like about you you always respond to your comments :)

im still slightly confused tho... im trying to picture where the hammer is inside the gun im so used to the look of the model 36 its making my brain hurt haha

  • could you shoot this with your thumb on where the hammer is supposed to be?

  • Sootch00, I've got a cheif's special that I bought a while back, but I haven't taken it out to the range yet. I paid too much for it, man, but I really wanted it. Besides, I had to throw a bone to guys at the local gun shop 'cause they work on commission. Back when ammo was scarrice, they always came up with a box or two for me :)

Roger that on at least shooting a 100 rounds through it, brother! Thumbs up, man!

  • Do you have an opinion on the Ruger LCP? If you have a chance to review the Ruger, please do a comparison with your 442. I think a compact revolver is my next gun.

  • @nelsonboy707 The LCP is so thin, it's really a whole other deal. Even though I think the LCP is a fantastic Concealable pistol, it was not a real joy to shoot. I still love 'em and think they're great . I have a review on it.

When I bought this pistol, I had an LCR next to it to compare. Even though the LCR was lighter, the trigger guard made it bigger. Either way, they're both quality pistols. Thanks Bro~

  • Silly me I meant to say LCR, not LCP, LoL. I saw the LCP review. The LCP hasn't made the CA approved list. The LCR has been approved. Do you have an opinion on the LCR?

  • @nelsonboy707 I thought you may have meant the LCR : ) I had planned on buying the LCR and went to the gunshop with that in mind. The S&W is typically $60 more but was used, so the price was the same for both revolvers. The LCR was lighter and I like the look of the totally cool polymer design, but when I compared the two in shape, the LCR's trigger guard extended way past the S&W's. If the S&W hadn't been such a good price though, I would have picked the Ruger. I plan on getting a LCR. Thanks~

  • Just watching again.Happened to notice how when you close the cylinder your thumb automaticly goes to where the hammer would be.Now thats muscle memory my man!

  • I was told the spent case was for ballistic registry in states that require it. Not for test firing. My source could be wrong (and I hope he is).

  • Doesnt +P mean plus pressure?

  • @TheSournews You are correct. Plus pressure... sometimes my mind works funny on camera. Thanks~

  • Very good advice you gave starting at 2:20. These little J-frames sell like crazy and they are excellent tools. But I believe they are NOT for the casual shooter or defender. You gotta practice twice as hard with a tiny, lightweight DAO snubby like the 442/642 in order to become proficient.

Good guns; but shoot 'em and practice with 'em regularly, or sell yours to someone who will.

Hate the S&W lock. Glad my J doesn't have one.

  • hey sooth00 this weekend i weent to the reange and shot that the thing that i found that the gun was light so the recoil was more than the other 38. i shot

  • @ashisturtwig123 Yes, it has more recoil for sure, but it's so light, you forget it's on you. It just takes a lot of practice to get use to. Thanks Bro~

  • great video, great gun i carry one every day. keep up the good work

  • Lookin' mean at 0:26!

  • Great review as usual. Also great info for people reguarding the +P and standard ammo.I usually fire standard 38sp in my 357 for practice, but keep it loaded with 357...38 is a lot more comfortable to burn through an afternoon on the range. Not to mention I've got loading dies for .38 but not 357.

  • This is still may favorite channel on youtube. Watchable length videos and keeps it fresh. The hole in my wallet is evidence of this.

  • When I hit 21 and get my CC permit, I'll definitely keep an eye out for one of these. I know my way around a pistol, but this looks like something that's good to have just in case.

  • ugly gun in my opinion

  • gotta get me one man, good invstment

  • im like u sootch00 but i dont own any weapons because im only 15. =( but i own many airsoft guns

    ++ im from sweden

  • im like u sootch, i love guns!! but i dont own any because im only 15 =( and i have never fired a gun but i own very many soft air

++ im from sweden =( we dont have the same weapons laws

  • im like u sootch00, i love weapons but im only 15 years old and from sweden i have never fired a gun =(. but i own very many soft air guns!!!

  • PSNcrazy95, my friend you are insane! we also have more canned food that people! this was and is a REVOLUTIONARY REPUBLIC! the correlation of firearms to populace actually guarantees our freedom! yeah I,m sure you think big gov,t is the answer! you moron!

  • great review, interesting piece - pleasure as always. And a free lesson in trigger control if you look closely - you can really tell you know what you're doing from the way you work the trigger on this da revolver. Then again, no surprises here! BTW - I still can't get over the quality of your stills - warms the photographer's soul, sir! 5/5

  • @gnashings Thanks for the kind words. The photos are my favorite : )

  • iwann it

  • Good video. I had one of these gems. I might get another one.

  • can you get with a longer barrel? please reply.

  • Nice review. I've never been a S&W fan. Well, that started during the Clinton administration when they caved about some gun control issue. But I can't remember what that was. Yea I know, kind of stupid if I can't remember. Oh well. My thinking is if they caved about one thing, they will cave again. For revolvers, I like Ruger. I have a GP100, SP101 and have an LCR on lay-a-way which I'll pick up in a couple of weeks. I've never shot a Smith so maybe I will change my mind if I ever shoot one.

  • @freedomlovindude Don't worry about SW caving again. They were purchased by a British company back in the 90's that made all the concessions to Clinton. The boycott forced the British company to sell SW, and now it is a publicly owned company that is a big supporter of the NRA and gun rights.

  • nice presentation thanks love my 340

  • I love S&W revolvers, but here in Argentina are too expensive. Taurus is cheaper and more popular, but the brazilian mark has not the quality of a good S&W. I had the pleasure of firing a S&W Model 10, .38Spl 2", and I really liked it, but now it cost about 700 dolars.

    Excellent review as always.

  • @arminio9dc Taurus makes excellent firearms as well. I had a Model 85 for years and regret selling it. Thanks Amigo~

  • Qualified with my 642 for my CCW.Great video as always SOOTCHY.

  • an armed society is a polite society. from your profile you are from the uk which has one of the highest violent crime rates of any industrialized nation even more than the U.S. also all crime in the U.S. has been on a decline for the last decade or so. guess what... gun sales have soared through the last decade. makes you think don't it?

  • @PSNcrazy95 When the Governemnt starts telling you how many you can have, that's a problem. I'd rather live Free than a slave. Suit yourself, Dude.

  • Problem, UK?

  • @PSNcrazy95 with all the guns he has yeah it is a problem, the problem is he still doesn't have enough!

  • love these little guns. I have the S&W M&P 360

  • Great review, but I don't like DAO and I would prefer 6 shots. But as you said, it still makes a great concealed carry weapon.

  • i have a couple of the bodygaurds with the schrouded hammers . 5* Easty to carry super light .

  • Great review, sootch00!

  • $420 sounds good. DOA and no hammer take away those accidental discharge fears, but you sacrifice the crisp singl action... but for carry.. DOA is for me.

  • Nice piece, congrats on the purchase great deal. I don't have a single wheel gun but I've been looking at the Smith-438 bodyguard, I like the shrouded hammer/humpback design a little better then the 442 since it allows the option of single action fire with the same type of snag free profile. No worries with a smith revolver, they are like a hammer or a fork, you just pick them up and they work.

  • Hmm better be close. 5 shots? Enclosed hammer, good for concealed carry. 15 ounces good, but will snap a little more. Thanks for the look Sootch00

  • The revolver has an intimidation factor that the semi auto lacks. Looking down the barrel of a revolver and seeing the slugs in the chambers would bring anyone to a complete halt.

    Great video.

  • Good review, Sootch. Sounds like you got a good deal on that puppy.

  • Nice shooting buddy. Keep up the great reviews man!

  • nice gun! give me a sub.

  • I hate the built in locks on guns.... If you want to keep a gun out of the wrong hands put it in a gun safe... but when you start messing with the original designs of a gun and adding crap ( locks ) It just adds the list of things that can go wrong. I remember a friend who had a ruger with a lock on it worked its way to on and he had to go hunting for a key. I don't want to be hunting for a key when my life is on the line.... Great review sootch00

  • nice

  • Sweet little gun! Great music too, old-fashioned blues!

  • Sweet little pistol.

  • how much was it

  • @MrJohnjake $420 no tax. It was a sweet find. Thanks~

  • wow nice little gun and great review

  • dope little revolver ....

  • Great review Sootch, as usual. Can you do a video with more comment about the trigger lock on S&W revolvers? Is it possible (and is it advisable) to remove/replace components to eliminate that feature - how different are same model variants with and without internally? I certainly wouldn't want that feature on a revolver... but then, here in the UK, there aren't many legal ones around...

  • very informative

  • thanks for posting the vid.
