Good tone, I just downloaded amplitude, a free sample, they give you a few different components for free and then you can buy other pieces. You get the feel for the solo which to me is better than a note for note copy.
lol, when i came to this cover i didn't expected something like this. it's stupid how much can mean simple riff, like when you're starting the solo. fuck me, i'm just SO jealous i can't play like this right now. :| amazing job, mate. and i really, really mean it as a guy who's really paying attention to covers of that solo.
@kevinmateo96 Cheers. It's an old 1980s Tokai Goldstar Sound. I got it for less than £300 second hand but I think they go for a bit more than that these days - in Europe anyway...
@kevinmateo96 Not exactly - the sound comes from Fuzz rather than gain. I think at the time the original was recorded Gilmour was using a combination of Fuzz and a compressor, so I tried to copy this in amplitube.
@redsquier375 owh i mean the 'delayed' recording problem....i mean u playing is sync with the output sound...thats what i mean..how do u fix it..?b'coz my prob is when i hit an A note for example,i could hear an A note sound after a few sec..(not a sec myb a milisec..) but still don't sync rite..?so when im on recording, its ruins the beauty of the song..so please help me mate..
@zeroskull85 Oh right, that sounds like a latency problem. Something to do with your set up - how powerful your PC is and the audio interface you are using. I'm afraid I'm not an expert on that kind of thing but you could look for the buffer settings and see if fiddling with those helps, failing that, visit a forum where computer music types hang out and I'm sure someone will be able to give you some advice.
@redsquier375 yeah latency prob..thats what i mean..sorry for made a hard way to explain it :p btw can u sharing with us what spec did u use for recording this awesome video..if u dont mind :) how did u connect to computer..using other advice to boost up the signal or etc..and your computer spec (sound card n related..) this spec might be helpful for beginners like me..thx in advance mate coz giving a good explanation for me n others :)
@zeroskull85 I'm not sure how much help it would be to know my setup to be honest, but I'm running a 2MB Intel iMac with a MOTU ultralite audio interface. I actually used a very bad recording technique to make this video - I played the backing track on itunes, played the guitar on amplitube and recorded the whole thing with the mac's built-in camera and mic. I would not recommend this technique!
@redsquier375 i thought u play backing track on amplitube directly...even u recorded via built-in mic still have a good quality..anyway,thx for yr nice feedback dude.. :)
Hi, im wondering how you get those long notes, I've been playing for so long but havent found the way to do it so my solos sound very plain. Thanks for helping.
Hello. By 'long notes' I'm assuming you mean sustain? There are a few factors that influence sustain: your technique, type of guitar, how well the guitar is set up and string gauges, the amount of distortion/gain you are using and the environment you and your amp are in. In this video I'm using plenty of gain so that adds sustain. The strat I'm playing has not got a lot of natural sustain so I'm having to use a lot of vibrato in my left hand to get more sustain out of it. Hope that helps a bit.
Oh, and the delay effect creates the illusion of more sustain too. Combining delay with your amp's natural feedback can get you pretty much endless sustain if you experiment with it.
Cheers for the comments. I'll tell you what I've got but it's not that important to the overall sound - the interface is just there to provide ins/outs and the studio amp and speakers are designed not to colour the sound too much. The tone comes from the amplitube patch, your guitar and your playing.
Little correction - recording interface removes all latencies and DO affects the sound (preamp role of the interface) so it IS important because you don't want to plug in your guitar directly into computers integrated sound card and get noises and latency :)
Anyways really nice playing and precise bending. That solo really sounds amazing :D
Ya i would like to know that too :) I dont have money to buy myself a decent set of studio monitors so you think i could plug it to my little practice amp throught the mp3 jack socket? thanks a lot man, nice playing :)
I was running through an audio interface into a set of studio monitors. I recorded the video using the computer's internal mic - hence the sound quality is not great.
how does amplitube work does it put on the effects in real time? or do you put on a audio file and than layer the effects on to the file. and do you use the direct x or a asio. i cant get it to work all i get is static
It works in real time. Don't know about direct X / asio - I use it on mac with a MOTU audio interface. Sorry, I don't know much about PCs. It appears as an adio unit in Logic, but I mainly just use the stand-alone version for messing around with.
amplitube 2 (and all other powered by amplitube software) works 100% perfectly in real time using asio drivers. keep in mine you need a powerful PC and a decent soundcard ideally. if you do not have am asio driven soundcard you can always use asio4all (google it) with no issues with sound/latency.
Cheers for the comments! I only recently switched to using a strat with a vintage radius on the fretboard and it makes bending much harder than I'm used to - so my appreciation for strat-wielding big-benders like Gilmour and SRV has sharply increased!
Sure - just send me at PM with your email address and I'll send you the patch. You'll need to tweak the input gain, compressor and distorion settings to suit your own axe though.
