  • Germans. Greatest engineers in the world.

Probably why I have always owned a German car.

  • Excellent, excellent, excellent!

The way you "directed" this video is incredible.

It is as if I am there looking at the real thing.

The way you scan from part to part.

    Many thanks!

Admit it, you are a Hollywood director.

  • Try working with that plus the obnoxious horns from the rides that are right next to it... It is not the most fun :P but thanks for giving me memories from my summer ^_^ also, from what I learned working there, to get it to play, when you are there just talk to a manager... They can play it whenever someone asks them to.

  • LOVE it! I am soooo fascinated by these. I remember listening to one in Washington, D.C. Where is this one?

  • song is Alte Kameraden.

  • I am again headed to Myrtle Beach and will again attempt to get a HD video of the band organ. I have again begun to call Broadway at the Beach management.

    Wish me luck.

  • Art nouveau-y.

  • wow thats nice. Nice sound and a very interesting front too! x

  • Try greasing some palms.

  • There is this fantastic march played by band organ at

    vandornsclockshop. com

Does anyone know the name of it?

Formerly the recording on line did not have the cyphers you now hear.

  • Thank you so very much for filming and putting this on YouTube. It is a wonderful creation.

  • Last month, I contacted the management at Broadway asking to have the organ playing so that I can get a more "professional" copy of this video. I left a message with them 3 days before arriving in MYB so that I would know whether or not to bring my pro equipment.

    I received no reply.

It truly is a shame that they have such a marvelous piece of history and are not doing anything with it.

When I return to Broadway next spring, I will try again. Thank you to all for the positive comments!

  • Shame the Germans burned all the good organs during the war...... Kept the best ones for themselves. ONE MUST NOT ENJOY ONESELVES. Hitler has only one ball ...lol

  • @nickelback1955

I am curious. Don't take this as an antagonistic question, but how do u know that the Germans burned all the good organs during WWII? What was their rationale for doing that?

    Gemutlichkeit verbotten?

  • Aw the last time it was at Broadway at the beach it wasn't working, and i go there every couple years, so thanks for posting this so i can listen to it at least sometimes

  • @MEH56 The organ works fine. You just need to get on the employees case to get them to play it.

  • Giant band organ!!!!!!

  • 0:00 old camrades / alte kameraden

  • @SuperPowerStudios yes I even saw it not working. : ( its been broken for quit a while. )

  • @SuperPowerStudios Its only a medium sized organ!

  • That was EXCELLENT! Too bad it quit before Stars & Stripes Forever was through.

  • the bell ringer is kinda anoying

i see that the bell ringer is on the same register as the harp-girls it was better if the put it with the big drum

    where is it now ?

  • @Johan22333 it is in Broadway at the beach Shopping center...

  • @Johan22333 The bell ringers are actually keyed to the bandmistress (who isn't working). They should be keyed to either the harp players or bass drum. I think someone told me once it's supposed to be the harpists. Wayne Holton when he transcribed this medley made it so the bandmistress and harpists play on every beat which doesn't help any.

  • @M38Ruth It's a shame that so many organs now are MIDI-fied. I wonder how many intact organs there are. Probably an endangered species.

  • my mistake

  • From 4 min. up it plays the Radetzky-March, then When the Saints go marching in, later The River Quai March and finally Stars and Stripes.

  • @nordendbaer Old Comrades March, Under the Double Eagle, National Emblem, Radetsky March, The Battle Hymn of the Republic, The Jolly Copper Smith, Colonal Bogey March (Bridge over the River Quai), and Stars and Stripes Forever.

  • Amazing how a collection of parts can play live music with so much emotion. It doesn't sound flat at all. I love that this incredibly complex object exists soley to create pleasure and happiness. I'd love to see under the hood while it's running! It's as if some extremely gifted cuckoo clock maker got bored and decided to flex all of his creative muscles.

  • 'Emotion' is only a technique of playing, the fact that the thing is natural (slightly out of tune and out of time) gives that impression. If you removed these qualities it would be lifeless...

  • Well, there's nothing "natural" about being out of tune. Just my opinion. ;-)

  • hi i saw this organ a couple of times it is nice to see and hear. I think at some point the drums stopped working i guess it needs to be ajusted. it is now a midi operated machine. Hope to go back soon and hear it again

  • save this instrument forever!!

  • I'd like to thank you for this. I was born at Myrtle Beach in 1958. I remember sitting watching this when I was a little girl for hours and never getting bored. I almost died when I heard that my beloved Pavillion was going to be torn down. I was happy that they put this back together down the road at the other park. I would have missed it. Still it makes me happy to see it where it used to be. Thank you for your video.

  • i think the first tune is old comrades march

  • That's correct.

  • @dalekbitch the second is under the double eagle

  • The Hard Rock Theme Park in Myrtle Beach just declared bankrupcy and closed its doors after being open only 6 months. Maybe it wasn't the replacement for the Pavillion that they thought it would be. The Pavillion Nostalgia Park is better even though it is mostly kiddy rides.

  • This March Time Medley is not one of the original books, but an arrangement done by Wayne Holton of Houston, TX along with about 25 other tunes that were playing before the original books were scanned.

  • @M38Ruth This book was not arranged by Wayne Holton,it has been scanned from a book arranged for a Bruder organ that was in the States and now resides in Switzerland. The arrangement is by Kevin Meayers from England,he confirmed this to me last Saturday.

  • @petermackett37 ok, transcribed to the 96 key Ruth scale by Wayne Holton from the Kevin Meayers arrangement.

Doesn't Kevin own the former Hoefnagels 36B Ruth?

  • @M38Ruth No,Kevin looks after the playing side of the organ,it is owned by my good friend Paul Kirrage.

  • This is one of my favorite organs. My friends who restored all of the original books did a wonderful job to preserve all of the original music that played on the organ then, and plays now in midi form. I don't believe the bellringers are supposed to strike on the conductor beat either, but it was always that way on this particular organ.

The posted info states that the organ has 98 keys. It has 96. It also states the organ was built in 1900, but records show is was built in 1906.

  • Contrary to what the posted info says about the music this organ plays -- All of their cardboard music has been scanned to MIDI files and the organ now plays from disc. They must like this particular selection since it has been playing every 15 minutes for MONTHS!! (Could the disc be stuck?)

  • It's probably the only tune on the disk.

  • Comment removed

  • @M38Ruth disk? what disk? this organ is played by a perforated cardboard strip, using the same method as a player piano

  • @iwema93 No, as I stated in my previous post, It doesn't play from cardboard books anymore. The organ was restored and converted to play from a Midi interface by Stinson back in 2006. All of the original music was scanned to floppy disk to play from the MIDI plus some new arrangements (including this one) were added to the repertoire.

  • Beautifull organ, but need some technical intervention: a few pipes are playing in the melody non stop. Some valves don't close.

Such organ is a unicum !!And need better attention.

  • Ah, memories. I notice that the wrist on the central figure is no longer moving...

  • I let Stinson know about the Bandmistress not working, and the bell ringers that should be playing with the bass drum and not the bandmistress.

  • Judging by the ciphers, I'd say it's definitely up for some maintenance by now!

  • I like it 5 stars check out my Myrtle beach history video on my site
