Beautiful guitar. Do you find that some of the tone gets sacrificed because of how light it is ? I like thinner necks, I can't play 50s necks and I can't stand how heavy some of the les pauls are. But I love the tone...
@Machin3God - not at all...i have owned lots of guitars and my Axcess has amazing tone. I switched to the stop tailpiece version though just bc the Floyd seemed to be at an ackward angle. Try a chambered LP, they sound fantastic.
I dont know that much about guitars, but I always had the impression that sustain depends mostly on the construction quality of the pickups, is it not?
The top is all maple but not bookmatched.Bookmatched would be 1 piece of maple split in 2 and opened like a book so the grain would be the same on both sides. This one has 2 different pieces of maple that don't match.
I think the belly scarf is the belly contour (like on a strat) the neck contour would be called a contoured heel.. by the way can i just say.. you have a lot of really expensive, nice stuff.. are you rich!? ha ha
how do guitarists do the string scraping and hit a note like zakk wylde and stuff, ive seen many do it, sorry if i cant really explain it, its like you sweep the strings but palm muted and you hit the note you want then
The axe is great and your playing is awsome, man.
I just 'dlike to say that what you call the "belly carve" is not what you show in close-up @ 0:45. That's the special axcess neck joint. The belly carve is the other cutout in the upper part of the back of the guitar that make it comfortable on your belly. They call it the stomach cutout as well (or something)...

you picking hand needs to be uncurled some, if you keep your pinky, middle, and ring fingers straight it helps you get a cleaner tone, and it makes right hand hammer-ons and tapped harmonics quicker.-SS

@defleputube Did you think there is a very noticable change in tone from a Floyd Rose compared to a normal LP stoptail type bridge? I like this idea, but also like the LP tone which might partially come from the normal bridge type? I've heard that especially if you are using EMG pickups, it's hard to notice tone change from different bridges. Thx.
@ctalbert1 - I sold my Axcess with the Floyd and bought a stop tail piece version. I would say the tone was basically the same. However, the stop tailpiece gives you much better sustain. You are right about EMGs. EMGs really just wash away any tonal variation from wood selection and bridges. I really don't like EMGs for that reason.
Sounds pretty good. My LP copy sounds kinda like this at the end when you're demonstrating the coils split. What strings were you using in this demo video? (Brand, kind and gauges)
@GuitaristEliKing from my experiences with maple wood guitars especially the top, is they are very bright and treble sounding and a bit harsh till the wood ages and settles in. my 95 American std. strat is maple neck and it took a while for it to sound real cool. i have a 1980 custom Carvin les paul type model with hard rock maple top and neck--depends what amp it goes thru, sounds great on Peavy 50, not so good on Fender trans. 2-12, pretty good on a Marshall though i never had one
holy diver!! that's a lot. i wish i could afford it. i'm actually playing a les paul with floyd rose on my orianthi video. it's an epiphone though lol
Ya, I didnt have the correct equipment to record a video with real audio, I am getting the stop-tail piece of this guitar so I'll post much better clips in a few weeks.
dude dont get me wrong u made me realise that it sounds good but isnt one o the biggest deals about the Les Paul Axcess the floyd rose yet u barely touch it in the whole demo??
I like that gibson have brought something out with a floyd rose, as expensive as it is for us here in australia, it would definately be the guitar with a floyd rose for me
@guitaraddict73 I dont think it would lose a lot, if the floyd rose is good quality it doesnt really effect sustain, the guitar probably loses more sustain from the chambered body
a floyd rose isn't better then a bigsby, its a matter of opinion. A bigsby wasn't designed to do the things that a floyd can. I personally like the feel of a bigsby better, but I do love my ibanez that has a floyd on it.
I believe that the 'Belly Scarf' is not that smooth cutaway at the upper frets, but the smooth cutaway that you see at 0:53 at the right side of the guitar. It's called the Belly Scarf, because it makes the guitar 'fit' around your belly, wich is more comfortable.
Bigsby's are more for a light vibrato, not a lot of upward pitch change capability, which is why i personally am not a fan of them. Trems are much better for just about anything , the only problem you tend to encounter with a trem is knock offs, if its not floyd rose, its not worth your time, you may also have some trouble keeping in tune, but trust me, if your looking for a bar, go trem.,
And what's with Bigsby? If it doesn't allow a lot of options?
Bigsby has to have some sort of advantages? I know one already, a tremolo falls down, while a bigsby stays at the same place... But still you get use to both easily... Hmmm... lol
A Bigsby has its limitations as it can't go downwards, whereas a Floyd Rose can go both, down and up. A skilled player can use these techniques to make the guitar growl/scream.
Floyd Rose bridges also come with double locking systems. Put simply, this means that when you use the bar, the strings will not become de-tuned.
That's why a Floyd Rose bridge is better than a Bigsby.
Oh... Floyd Rose is already build with the guitar (well no, but you know what I mean)... Bigsby is something where you have to put it on yourself... Bigsby is for guitars who don't have tremolos already on them...
To be honest, I don't really know the point of a Bigsby. I know it is less expensive than a Floyd Rose, but I think Floyd Roses are worth the money if it's within a budget.
Cosmetics. Thats all can think of. Floyd Roses are a lot more stable in terms of tuning, and you can do dives and screams more easily, and with Bigsby, it would go terribly out of tune.
An advantage is that it goes hand in hand with vintage guitars.
These guitars do not need Floyd Roses installed. Instead, they are just fine with limitations of a bigsby.
I would only play with a Bigsby if I was playing a Vintage guitar. If you plan on getting one on an electric, you're better off avoiding that and purchasing a new guitar with a Floyd Rose. Reason is because Floyd Rose bridges are costly. There will also be the added cost of having it installed.
there are plenty more than 'any' advantages. a bigsby is just for vibrato, while the floyd rose is the actual whammy bar that does the drops and squeals and stuff.
I played one of these at Guitar Center yesterday, and I was impressed. The Floyd was a nice addition, and the neck wasn't too thick. Still not as thin as I like, but it sure sounded great and was fun to play. I didn't notice any quality issues that Gibson seems to be known for these days. This is the only Les Paul I would even consider getting.
No, because the angle of the neck is unique on this Les Paul. Basically, this guitar has an entirely different body and neck contour. Try one at Guitar Center and you'll see what I mean. You may want to check out an ESP Eclipse.
i want to see this guitar handle some dimebombs and all those other tricks, see how that would go....why coulnt they come up with this ten years ago? DAMN THEM!!!!
I noticed a break in the video right before you start playing the lead stuff... is that sped up? Dude it sure seems sped up and if it is... thats just WRONG.
How is the tuning stability? The ones I've seen online don't seem to have string tree at the headstock, which I think is a big mistake. Do you own any other LPs?
Lol, the belly scarf is actually the other cutaway part towards the top of the guitar so it isn't jagged against your body. The other part you were reffering to is the neck cutaway, but it's an honest mistake. Just wanted to point that out.
If you guys are really interested in the guitar I will sell it for a lot less than you can get it at Guitar Center. I bought a car and I promised the wife I'd unload some equipment.
Why doesnt epiphone make one of these, an epi les paul standard is like 500 bucks, floyd rose is like 200 max, if they wanted, they could make one under1000.
i always wanted gibson with a floyd rose, but the price is rediculous, i read the specs online and it says nothing about the floyd being original. Its a great idea, but for those who dont have the cash go with a ESP ec1000FR, Practically the same thing with an original FR and 24 frets and half the price.
What wawws the first song you played? It sounded great.I'd probably like this guitar more if it had a thicker body. But Gibson was getting complatints about weight, which is the reason why lots of people switch from a les paul to a strat, and never look back. Its too bad in my opinion.
The song is Aerosmith's Mama Kin. The Axcess is really light so I totally understand why people prefer a heavier guitar. That being said it gets great sustain and the tone is really full. Try one out at Guitar Center.
i must aagree i have a 91 ibanez the best general era (80's +early 90's) and its just better than anyones guitar i kno ------- me and my guitar teacher have them and they just own any other guitar for playability
SINCE THIS IS NOT AN ORIGINAL FLOYD - DOES IT STAY IN TUNE? HOW DOES IT TAKE THE BENDS?

i'm pretty sure the belly scarf isnt the neck joint, its the carved out bit on the side, similar to a strat

I noticed a break in the video right before you start playing the lead stuff... is that sped up? Dude it sure seems sped up and if it is... thats just WRONG.
Nice guitar though.

How is the tuning stability? The ones I've seen online don't seem to have string tree at the headstock, which I think is a big mistake. Do you own any other LPs?
Unseenbass 2 years ago
It shouldn't need a string tree with the tilt back headstock

Hey man great playing. But next time could you please try and use the Floyd Rose a bit more?
LesPaulDude100 2 years ago
Lol, the belly scarf is actually the other cutaway part towards the top of the guitar so it isn't jagged against your body. The other part you were reffering to is the neck cutaway, but it's an honest mistake. Just wanted to point that out.

neroroxxx 2 years ago
If you guys are really interested in the guitar I will sell it for a lot less than you can get it at Guitar Center. I bought a car and I promised the wife I'd unload some equipment.
defleputube 2 years ago

StanolaGoW 2 years ago

Why doesnt epiphone make one of these, an epi les paul standard is like 500 bucks, floyd rose is like 200 max, if they wanted, they could make one under1000.
thet60player 2 years ago
i always wanted gibson with a floyd rose, but the price is rediculous, i read the specs online and it says nothing about the floyd being original. Its a great idea, but for those who dont have the cash go with a ESP ec1000FR, Practically the same thing with an original FR and 24 frets and half the price.
emilydyanne 2 years ago
you should have got a vos les paul..

What wawws the first song you played? It sounded great.I'd probably like this guitar more if it had a thicker body. But Gibson was getting complatints about weight, which is the reason why lots of people switch from a les paul to a strat, and never look back. Its too bad in my opinion.
Burnboy85 2 years ago
The song is Aerosmith's Mama Kin. The Axcess is really light so I totally understand why people prefer a heavier guitar. That being said it gets great sustain and the tone is really full. Try one out at Guitar Center.

i must aagree i have a 91 ibanez the best general era (80's +early 90's) and its just better than anyones guitar i kno ------- me and my guitar teacher have them and they just own any other guitar for playability
