  • @weirdwatch that acually sounds like ur discribing a shogun warrior toy.

  • These type of cartoons are good. Cartoons these days are crap.

  • The All American version of the super robot genre.

  • Man, this show was my reason for living when I was 10!

  • This is my favorite cartoon show at TV5 here in the Philippines back late 1980's.

  • I use to love this show!!!

  • Kids these days are too fat and lazy to get up at 7am.

  • every time i hear rob talk i think of donatello from the ninja turtles

  • A Voltron knock off that was cooler than Voltron!

  • I remember this

  • i just watched voltron but its not. Never heard of this 80s cartoon. Maybe theres many i never got to see. I can believe how many are showing up on youtube i have never seen or heared off. I feel like a kid again.

  • Cartoons must revert back to frame by frame goodness, not the crappy 3d anmation that is pretty common these days.

  • i think this is a voltron wannabe but its still a good cartoon :)

  • @ulysses1981 Ahhh.this came out a year before Voltron,so i doubt its a rip-off of that.

  • @landrykkb the thing is, stuff we see here in america (at least at that time) WAS already done and completed. it was ALL japanese creations. the only thing making or breaking release dates over here was who paid whom and corporate ballyhoo. i mean, come on, i was watching robotech in like, what, the late 1980's? do you know how many years it took before i even got the idea to research it? turns out it was an amalgam of 3 unrelated manga.

and dont get me started on gatchaman.

  • @ulysses1981 well more like god mars actually

  • hmmm Gundam?

  • Cartoons of yester year are so much better than the God aweful shit my generation is watching today with only a handful of decent exceptions(NARUTO,AVATAR LAST AIRBENDER,MONSTER BUSTER CLUB etc.)other then those??Todays toons SUCK HAIRY BALLS!!

  • @sammylane21 - Avatar: The Last Airbender is actually good. It's the rest that suck.

  • @SonicShadowSilver I know a little adults hate him but you also have to put Spongbob as part(even though he debut in late '99) the '90's cartoons that was decent until season 6 through the end.Admit was decent, with episodes like Spongbob "Ripped Pants".Watch it and you'll laugh at it too!But toons of yesterday give so much more,I am surprised that Hollywood has only a handful of movies based on them.

  • Kenny Loggins sang the theme song?

  • This seems like a cheap knockoff of Voltron. Volron was muck better!

  • I vaugely remember this. :(

  • Awesome. One of the most underrated shows of the 80's. Hail Mighty Orbots.

  • NOW THAT WAS A REASON TO GET UP ON SATURDAY MORNINGS AT 6 OR 7 AM!! Kids today, you just dont know... you just DONTknow.

  • @egnod totally agree

  • @egnod hah! i do. sid and marty kroft was the real reason. or, ag day, if you were my best albeit nerdy friend.

  • The 80's were the best decade to be a kid. All cartoons now are feminized, pussy ass, liberal feminist propoganda. sigh....very little violence. It's a shame

  • @spinneroonie Not to mention very little originality these days.

  • for some reason i woke up up this morning with this intro playing in my head0.o

  • notthing is like old cartoon intros

  • Kind of a shame it got canned, by the creators of Gobots of all things, you'd think the creators of Godmars (The robot Might Orbots is inspired by) would have done it, but no, it's Gobots, Might Orbots didn't even get a toy for god's sake! >.<

  • For the longest time I thought I was the only one who remembered this cartoon

  • I've always wondered who would win in a fight between the Orbots and Voltron (go lion.)

  • One of my most favorite cartoons ever! Back then, I had a friend who had the actual toys of the Orbots. You better believe I was super jealous. I wonder if he still has them. I'm sure the Orbots are indeed a collectors item now.

  • @hotsupa There were no Orbots toys made. They were planned (based off of a Japanese GodMars toy), but never released. Whatever your friend had, it was not Mighty Orbots.

  • @Keldroc he might have actually had Godmars. back in the 80s, Bandai brought over to the states it's Godaikin line, and I believe Godmars was one of the robots of it. They're on youtube, and as toys they are awesome-imagine 2-3 feet tall diecast robots, with firing weapons and tons of accesories.

  • I remember this came on at 9 AM Saturday mornings on ABC.

I was astounded at the angles and music a cartoon could have(even though I was 10, LOL)

  • This cartoon came out when I was in the 4th grade. Too bad it had such a short run. I always loved that cool theme song! :-)

    Thanks for posting this.

  • This was one of the all-time best theme songs! I would get up some mornings just to hear the theme song and then go back to bed.

  • this was too much of a rip off of Voltron for me to like it back in the days...

  • @thegreatcyke4ever Actually Mighty Orbots aired 2 days before Voltron started in syndication. Mighty Orbots premiered September 8, 1984 and Voltron premiered September 10, 1984.

  • "Umbra is attacking rock & roll? Is nothing sacred!?"

This show kicked so much ass, and I only regret that I've only seen, like, three episodes. I gotta get them on DVD or something!

  • Channel 7...sat mornings...8:30 am...ahhhh...good times.

  • Wow, that's a trip down memory lane. I loved this show as a kid. My parents actually had a video cassette recorded for me with episodes of these guys, He-Man, and Transformers. Same freaking 10-12 episodes...but what an Epic 10-12 they where.

  • GO MIGHTY ORBOTS!

  • this brings back memories....the animation was awesome....nothing beats hand-drawn animation

  • This is just amazing as this was drawn by hand an not by a computer. Very amazing colorfull hand-drawn animation intro. Still love it to this day.

  • I remember watching this show. Sadly the AWESOME animation and music from the intro didnt really translate into the actual show. Was kind of poorly drawn and lame. But that intro, one of the all time best ever!!

  • GO! Mighty Orbots!

They're joining together to fight for what's right

    Everywhere! Mighty Orbots!

Protecting the world from the shadow of evil and doom!

  • Barrel rolls make space travel more epic

  • this would be a coollive action

  • I would like to see Duncan Figueroa draw the Orbots or the big mech in his style.

  • ooh that would be AWESOME! >=D

  • FINALLY I FOUND YOU!!!!!! BEEN LOOKING FOR YOU IN YOUTUBE SINCE LAST 7 MONTH

  • All those years ago who would have though the Orbits would be the inspiration for bulkhead from transformers animated

  • @RisemboolRangerJTES you're partly right, bulkhead seems more like a Crunch/G1 hound/Cybertron crumplezone hybrid imo

  • Thank you for the Orbots opening sequence. When I was a kid I used to watch this every Saturday. The song was kick ass, Do you guys remember the Galaxy Sheriffs, that was cool also. Damn, so many years so many years have passed and gone.

  • Holy F'ing HELL! Do you have any idea how many years it's been since I've seen this!? LOL God to be a child in the 80's again!

  • @rtds9fan. Generation Y has no clue what they missed : )

  • I just can't believe this cartoon looks as good as I remember it!! Where are these kind of cartoons now?? Saturday mornings have degraded from an almost Divine day of the week to a horrible joke! People save the world using card games? Ugh. 80s cartoon will always rock 'cause they didn't talk down to their audience and were NOT afraid to show as the grim realities of life! This PC thuggery has ruined America and will continue for generations to come!

  • the animation on this show was fucking syck! Loved it.

  • The Animation on orbots was hands down the best of the 80's. It used to come on at 5:30am on Saturday mornings here! Me and my bro would wake up at 5 to start the cartoon-a-thon. It was this, then scooby doo and the 13 ghosts, turbo teen, voltron, then my sister would come in and take over to watch her chick-tunes. Those were the days.

  • the animation was way ahead of its time on this show...

  • This show had GREAT animation...and god-awful voice acting. I still want it on DVD, though.

  • Even though this is a shameless rip-off, this is a badass intro.

  • Wow I haven't seen this show in over 20 years. It has one of the best intros.

  • I use to get such a hard on we when this intro came on!

  • I FEEL SO FUCKIN OLD WATCHIN THIS SHIT..LOL

  • this song is my "get the fuck out of bed and attack the world" morning song! I love it!!!

  • I loved this show an awful lot.

    IS THIS SHOW ON DVD?

  • I can't believe this show was so easily shut down by the fucking GOBOTS. Just...why? That's injustice at its boldest. Not because it was beaten in ratings, but because of a fucking lawsuit.

YOU DON'T GET TO FILE SUIT IF YOU'RE A GODDAMNED RIPOFF TO BEGIN WITH.

  • @GreenGearMood Can you tell me more about this lawsuit? What happened?

  • @SuperCartiel : Tonka sued on the basis that 'Mighty Orbots' was stolen from their Gobots line, perhaps because the name was very close to their Gobots slogan, "Mighty Robots, Mighty Vehicles". It really didn't have much to stand on, but Orbots didn't get great ratings (its timeslot was against the Smurfs, a juggernaut at the time) so the creators just let it go.

  • @TheZhayne Smurfs beat this show?!

    Your kidding

  • As an adult I now know how stupid I was... but when I was a kid I always thought Mighty Orbots would kick Voltron's ass! lol

  • Transformers or orbots????

  • orbots. . .not transformers orbots

did you know there are ALOT more robots other than transformers ?

    well. . .THERE ARE!

  • @cannonfodder4000 It was joke bad relax dude... they were cool..

  • Omg, I *remember* this still. Word for word. Awesome! XD

  • hey! how often do you see that in stories? where the hero is responsible for the creation of the villain?

looking back, this was a great cartoon; a great "responsibility" message.

UMBRA got out of control, the geek knew it was his fault so, he made the Orbots. He's supposed to be some high level genius, even by the standards of the future.

this was a great cartoon wish I had seen the last episode back when I would have enjoyed it.

  • I thought this cartoon was kind of interesting; the villain was MADE by the hero, if I recall the cartoon's story, the main character, the nerdy guy? He created UMBRA, and to make ammends to try and deactivate it, he made the Orbots.

  • for those of you who forgot, UMBRA is that creepy lava lamp ball thing, most advanced computer ever made according to the cartoon's story.

  • I didn't get to watch the final episode; anyone out there, so did Rob or whatever the hell his name was manage to deactivate UMBRA finally?

  • @pillsburydoughboy47 Yes, by turning Umbra's weapon against him.

  • @rathraven1313 so he finally does kill his evil creation? thanks; glad the animation ended well. Too bad I had to move before I had a chance to see the final episode, either that or I just don't remember.

  • In the future it may actually come to that; they say a geek's only friend is his computer, in the future it could be his ultra high tech sentient robots.

  • LOL the main character is such a geek; all his friends are robots!

  • UMBRA was one of the best villains of all time; possibly the most evil sentient computer in all of fiction.

  • I remember that Crunch was capable of eating metal scraps and turn that into energy, like a organic digestive system...

    cool idea, eh!

  • Miss this so much. I remember my dad buying a VCR & being able to record 1 episode before it went off the air.

  • If you build it, they will come. We have the technology now. So, how's about a movie?

  • This was an ABC Saturday Morning thing for me in 83!!

  • That intro was intense! As a kid, it would pump me up so much!!

  • @d21lewis

Yeah. I loved the intro as a kid too. I even have a VHS of , I think, 5 of the episodes. lol. I put it away....don't know where, sadly. My son would probably love it.

  • @d21lewis Give it to the Japanese, they always know how to pump hot blood into little teenagers.

  • @merakhagen. They were always ahead of us in regards to video games and animation.

  • @d21lewis funny you should say that!!! i Have the intro on my mp3 player when I go to the gym!

  • @d21lewis I'm 23 and it pumps me up just fine

  • ah hell no!!! this was one of the greatest 80s cartoon, next to transformers;gi joe, m.a.s.k.; etc, but i have star trekking in the twighlight zone for this cartoon, what would i run up to next?

  • Yes, it does bring back memories.

  • Yes

  • man i love a lot of toons as a kid and i still love them

  • Find information about and download of your favorite Old and New School superhero cartoons at:

    superhero-cartoon-network.blogspot.

New superhero cartoons (& downloads) are added daily/weekly.

  • damn i wasnt born in the 80s but shit im glad i know about this cartoon now....the opening for this is kick ass i keep replaying it over and over lol

  • @xXDethMetalGodXx if you like this (and i know i do) you should also check out silver hawks intro

  • Man, I used to LOVE this cartoon!! I started watching it by mistake as a kid. I was looking at the T.V guide, and I misread it and thought it said Mighty Gobots. Ever since then I was a fan. For some reason, the animation and graphics for this cartoon always seemed to be extra crisp and vivid. Does anyone else agree?

  • It's funny how this theme stayed in my head all these years.

  • i hate that term retro junk and other glib remarks about my generations tv shows. these shows were my childhood and they were not junk!

  • Blame Vertex, the owner/operator of the site.

  • I used to watch this every saturday when I was a kid. Put this classic on dvd already! : )

  • Most of my friends dont remember this show. I agree, I miss the Saturday morning cartoons also. I remember Battle of the Planets. :) And the other classics like Starblazers, Voltron, and Robotech. Any of you all remember the Dungeons and Dragons cartoon?

  • @devilman138 I have the whole D&D cartoon on dvd.

  • mighty orbots!

  • I miss Saturday morning cartoons.

I'm 32 so i know what cartoons should be. It's all crap now. Remember "Battle of the planets"?

  • Yes. The original version was released here and it was about a billion times better.

  • Man, I can't agree with you more. I am 33 and I remember ALWAYS popping up early Saturdays excited for my Saturday morning cartoons.

It was the last thing I typically thought about Friday night and my first thought in the morning. They really don't "make'em like they use to"

  • agreed.

  • g- force

  • Such an underrated series. It's too bad the show got canceled because those douchebags at Tonka threatened to sue the show's creators (supposedly because it sounded too much like GoBots).

  • That's what killed this show? That sucks! This was about the best Voltron Clone, bar none. I might even go so far as to say I think it better than Voltron. Well, definitely the car Voltron. The lion ships; I'll have to think on that!

  • Say, may you put some episodes of this here? MANY THANKS IN ADVANCE,Sawwy!!!:) Durandal87

  • I would but they would get taken down due to copy right me thinks.

  • Blow!!!Thank you all the same and good continuation here!!:) Thank you for responding to my message,Sawwy!:)

  • no problem man I'm sure if you look about on the net the episodes will be available to download.

  • @Sawwy Good thing to, wouldn't want to lost too many sales on Orbots DVDs...

  • Aceee!!! 5 on 5 for this!!!Thank you very much for this opening me!!!

  • can you believe that the 30 year mark is approaching for the inception of a lot of these cartoons???? For me, the nostalgia is mind numbing. I feel sorry for the kids of today.

  • yes it's amazing how even for today,,,this cartoons still rock....

  • from simpsons the chocolate robots xD

  • 0:13 oh look, it's a HIDDEN MICKEY

  • That's because todays cartoons make no sence and are full of mindless violence, pointless themes.

Teletubbies, mike lou and aug are just some of the shows wich are a waste of celluloid and resources.

  • Still owns all of todays cartoons.

  • I felt like I was the only person too who loved this show! so there are more weirdos than just me out there! it is too bad it was canceled after just 1 season though.

  • you are by far not alone!!

    I flippin’ love this show!!

    Always have always will..

It was because of Voltron that this series got canceled.

It had very little to do with if it was good or bad..

Both this show and voltron were Japanese imports.

The fight over the cartoons took place in Japan.

The Voltron creators claimed this show copied voltron too closely and the producers of Voltron forced Mighty Orbots out of fliming production. That was why this show just disappeared.

  • Wait my bad

god I must be getting old..

    It was go-bots

    Not Voltron..

But I think voltron stepped in on them too if I remember right..

    Anyway

  • @orangie84 i loved this show so much. i had thought the reason for the short run was because of ABC. those voltron creators are such a-holes. A truely great show that never had the chance it should have.

  • @MrDamon73 Actually, the reason was Tonka, the GoBots people. Though not a single character was based on any GoBots (or Machine Robo) products.

  • @Kuahmel thank you for giving me the info on that.

  • Every time I see that intro, I get a little pissed that the show came a couple of years before my time and that I didn't get a chance to see this. It looks friggin' dope.

  • Lots more cartoon variety and quality these days. The main thing these old toons had was a good opening theme, a practice lost nowadays.

  • The old cartoons such as 1980's transformers, blackstar, didn't have a good opening theme either. With a bad economy and tighter budgets most cartoon makers today have to settle for filler music.

  • TransFormers season 3 & 4 openings were great.

  • i figured the mighty orbots would be ripe for a rehash just like the transformers and whatnot. it would probably start as a comic book though.

    awesome show, totally rad.

  • who sings the mighty orbots theme song

  • They had the BEST SONG LYRICS FOR AN ANIMATED INTRO EVER!

  • hi could you plz tell the name of cartoon where a robot called cybetron appeares and later gets integrated witha boy and so on.. i love that one plz tell

  • Transformers

  • The music was beautiful, but that narrator was so annoying at times... ^_^

  • Space Ghost was never annoying sir...he was fantastic.

    -R78

  • God, I loved this show so much. I thought I was the only person that liked it when I was a kid. 84-85 was the year of robots for me. Voltron, Transformers and this!!! I think Orbots had the best animation of the cartoons out that year and I loved the music score for the show, too. There has to be good quality copies available. Anyone know?

  • Being a kid in the 80's was the best because before that no company put so much effort in their products like they did. Look at the Transformers then (made of metal) and now (made of plastic and cheesy designs). Shortcuts on manufacturing toys, uncreativitie, laziness and greed have taken over.

  • The best cartons... good times!!!

  • I just love the theme music, it's one of the best I've ever heard! What a pity this show is so underrated and overlooked.

  • Ugh... Tell me about it this show was great. I still believe Genddy Tarovkasky paid homage to this show in the Dexter episode Last But Not Beast. At l;east that's what I get from the intro which is filled with so many memories.

  • Genddy Tarovkasky paid homage to all Japanese superhero robots great and small for what we bare exposed to back when we were kids.

    -R78

  • That he did, but I can only think of two...

  • I can think of a few myself like Voltron, Shogun Warriors, TF, Sentai Power Rangers, Godzilla, oh did I also mentioned the Justice Friends were on that episode? They're also a homage to the Superfriends & The Avengers.

    -R78

  • Now that you mention it, it's like that episode was one big homage to a lot of material from the 70s 80s and early 90s huh? and to piece it all together I think they created a theme that was like a mix between this theme and The Power Ranger's theme...

  • lol sounds like they were trying to sound like Rush! Awesome!

  • yeah thats great. Anyone has it on mp3??

  • Great show and great memories! The late 70s through early 80s was my favorite cartoon era! Too bad this show only lasted one season.

  • thanks for posting this... used to love this show as a kid... hahaha... I still love that brass opening.. so energetic...

  • make a video game of this and other classic 80s cartoons.sick of gta, halo mario and other games.80s cartoons would make great games.

  • Awesome. Great underated show. Hail the 80's

  • Damn, Umbra was one of the ugliest villains ever.

  • Very Cool intro. too bad i never got to see this cartoon

  • Came on ABC saturday mornings in the mid-80's. Animation done by anime company called TMS who also did Bionic 6. Interesting show.

  • i luv dis song.

  • i prefer to watch this instead of spongebob or pokemon, today's cartoons suck bad.unless is something like justice league unlimited and the 90's x-men cartoon.those two dealed with serious themes not gotta catch em' all crap.

  • I agree... todays cartoons suck ass. it was all about the 80s. thundercats, silverhawks, voltron, he-man, gi joe, mask, and on and on...

  • Gary Owens also narrated this show IIRC.

  • This is exactly what im trying to say often but people refuse to listen.

Well i dont think that you cant enjoy them today too but compared to all the really well made and great shows today most old cartoons sucked.

New cartoons got a lot more exciting and well made storys and more interesting characters than most of the old cartoons.

I watch both old and new animated stuff all the time and its a lot more fun to watch the new stuff mostly.

Many people are blinded by nostalgia.

  • I'd take orbots and horribly dubbed anime from the 80's over the new stuff they have on fox. Those shows are really bad.

  • I dont live in America so i dont know what cartoons they have on Fox lol.

  • they on dvd yet??? where can i get it??

  • Saturday Morning Cartoons back when all networks had Saturday Morning Cartoons!

  • Go! Mighty Orbots!

0:34 is what I remember most. They just look so awesome running like that.
