Laurence 'Lol' Tolhurst.....He was The Cure's drummer from the beginning until 1982, then switched to keyboard and general drunkeness/deleriousness until 1989. I still miss Lol!!!!
I love the Cure! They are so freaking unique! Although I must sadly say that this video is so unique it actually kinda creeps me out. Same for Close to Me. But oh well. It's still worth it. :)
The following albums: Japanese Whispers, Pornography, The Head on the Door, Three Imaginary Boys and maybe Kiss me Kiss Me Kiss Me, would be a nice primer playlist.
Sure, since 'Blue Monday' was a huge hit and released only 3 months before 'The Walk', it's hard to avoid comparisons. But then other tracks spring to mind when you listen to 'The Walk': 'The Affectionate Punch' by Scotland's Associates (1980) or 'Don't Go' by Liverpool's Yazoo (1981). And to me the biggest influence on 'The Walk' is still the 1982 Tin Drum LP by David Sylvian's band Japan (try 'Cantonese Boy'...) Actually Smith hired Japan producer Steve Nye to work on 'The Walk'.
I think tears for fears when they came out tried to do this kinda thing...how funny is that other guy i forgot his name.. was it porl? i think that was the guitarist..
the coolest thing I think to american kids was like we just didnt have anything like this really at allllllll.. and then when you got a load of the british new wave.. like this..it was like whoa ! ! ! ! screw def lepord and who ever the fuck else was like bon jovi i remember..it was a war.. but the music was just so different..
