I think the judges allowed that clue based on the way the category was worded. If it was something like "monkey actions", then the buzzer would have sounded (probably). Phrasing something in the form of a "what" or "where" would validate more answers that would use prepositions.
PriceRight89: I think, respectfully, that you're being a bit picky. Monkey's do "swing on a vine". That clue may have been descriptive, but not overly so. I think the judges were correct in allowing it.

Yep. "on a vine" is a prep.. phrase. You can say "a swinging vine."
