Cary Simon is one of GOD's Angels who has gotten her message through to so many decades, death has tried to proclaim her, her voice and her soul but she can not be silenced. Carly I hear you!!!!!!
@JonnySoonami After you've been through cancer, chemo and passed your 60th birthday and can still play guitar and sing like this you can be as cheesy as you want.
beautiful version...One classy talented Lady....don't make them like her anymore! Everyone's allowed to give their opinion. But grow up kids...if you need to fight....over this....you have some issues!!....God Bless!!!
The Beatles were/are modern prophets, and there are hidden messages and meanings in many of their songs. To learn how to perceive these hidden meanings, search "Truth Contest" in Google and click the 1st result, then open The Present and read through the section about The Beatles.
i LOVE that she slowed it down, that she took her time on each note, that she GOT each note (which is so very important to us meticulous Beatles fans, eh?) wow do I feel bad wanting to hear this again over the White Album version
A very nice folk/country interpretation of this song. Almost everyone tries to mimic the Beatles' version of this. It's nice to hear a fresh rendition.
I had to get used to the somewhat slower pace of this version, but I really like this. Carly is great, she sings it in her entire own way (and that is the meaning of covering any song, or at least that is what it always should be)
She Is a better song writer than cover artist.Sorry..She is not Dolly Parton who covers stuff better. She Is a musician and song writer,I bet she did not even play on this.Rather hear her stuff,Leave covers alone. She still has too much talent left.
I was a security officer at The Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport in 1997 when Carly Simon came through my gate. Wow! I will never forget it! I was 35 years old then, and am 48 now, but she will always be a classy lady to me! She was the best, and only Cher and Olivia Newton-John could compete with her in the 70's. Carly Simon was one "Class Act!" :-)
if Paul would of debuted this with her we'd all be giveing are stamp of abroval when in truth she nailed it from the sadness of it to the blues in it..
I hate how people make comments like, "Ruined a beautiful song" or things along those lines. The songs amazing. She wouldn't cover it if it wasn't anything short of that. Covers pay respect to the original.
With such a beautiful and young-sounding voice and that ageless face you'd never guess that this was a woman in her 60's! Not a great arrangement of the classic song (too slow, a bit pretentious) but a very fine performance
Considering how complex recordings are now and many studio tricks are pulled to make meagre voices sound good, I think it's refreshing and rather brave for her to record this song so simply.
Really beautiful rendition. If you enjoy listening to covers of pieces, I can highly recommend the King's Singers version of this song - it is in no way the same piece as the Beatles but it is beautiful in it's own right.
the beatles are on a whole other level than the rest of this universe so for carlys version compared its an unfair match up kinda like UC and Florida in the sugar bowl...... but beatles set aside carly is an amazing artist so stop ripping on her.
Not a patch on the original, hoe can you do "Blackbird" in a different style to the original - it's perfection, you could perhaps embellish with a score,or backing vocals, but to change the original guitar line is just sacrilage!
@mikmc I agree. The strength of this song for me are the beautiful chord progressions and she pretty much arranged her own chords. Good effort but sub-par at best.
I agree with you totally, music is a very individual thing; that's the joy of it.
It may have been the time or my mood when I listened to it that made me feel this way. Having listened again, I still miss the invective soul in " into the light of the light of the dark black night." as Paul sings it.
personally i think this is her best album, the most spiritual one. These covers cover a certain time in her life and she gives you a glimpse of her soul.
Pallet 3473 will probably reincarnate as a blackbird about a dozen times ;-)
sorry pallet3473, any using the phrase "an important figure" cannot be taken seriously. It is fine if you do not like the song or how Ms Simon sings it, but the pretentiousness of your comment makes it less than useful.
Sorry Carly. You were once an important figure in the folk rock movement but this is incredibly aweful!!!!! Don't like your arrangemnent and you are not even "singing" but more so "talking" and flubbing up the melody. Maybe die hard fans will dig it but I think it's trash.

Blackbird's Flight To Guitars
To fly above the surly sky,
And flee an earthly den of deny.
To leap more than a metre high,
And hurl heavenly in mercuric cry.
To dwell amongst the streaming stars,
And lay claim to far Jupiter and Mars.
To escape from our mother's little jars,
And be bourne ahigh by blackbird's guitars.
