  • Simply beautiful...

  • Regardless of her multiple personal crisis - I can hear her heart and how much she digs this song. Very nice, Carly.

  • Cary Simon is one of GOD's Angels who has gotten her message through to so many decades, death has tried to proclaim her, her voice and her soul but she can not be silenced. Carly I hear you!!!!!!

  • Love it.

  • So sensitive and beautiful and Carly!

  • she looks so beautiful as an old lady! and her voice is still so beautiful.

  • song is pretty good, but this video is tooooo cheesy.

  • @JonnySoonami After you've been through cancer, chemo and passed your 60th birthday and can still play guitar and sing like this you can be as cheesy as you want.

  • She is eternal!

  • she brings tears to my eyes with her rendition of this song. beautiful carly!

  • whoa... close your eyes and she sounds like a dude

  • Check out my Cover of BLACKBIRD !! Its an Amazing Song !!

  • beautiful version...One classy talented Lady....don't make them like her anymore! Everyone's allowed to give their opinion. But grow up kids...if you need to fight....over this....you have some issues!!....God Bless!!!

  • I think she really did an amazing original interpretation. She gave it her own signature and made it sound like a Carly song. Great!

  • @masterplumberjimmy Is that true?

I love Carly...but I will say that this is not good. Very poor when compared to the Beatles classic!

  • Sooooo pretty.....love CS but have to say sarah mclachlan's arrangement of this classic is much better.

  • I love Carly Simon...thank you mom for introducing me to her when I was 10!

  • this ismy fave version

  • Perfect camping song. Carly Simon's voice is as solid as it was in her youth.

  • i am sam

  • love it!!!!

  • A nice version. Sounds almost bluegrassish.

  • nice cover...

  • It's nice, but I like the original more.

  • Beautiful...a very poignant version apropos to the piece!

  • I agree, originals are often the best, but the harmonic structure of this, the timing and the way it was sung made for a pleasant surprise.

  • I love her voice so much.

  • Check out the cover I did of this song at Brilliant Red Studios on my channel home page

  • Nice. Very "James Taylor" in the guitar.

  • This is a Great cover.... Love this song and Carly's version

  • i LOVE that she slowed it down, that she took her time on each note, that she GOT each note (which is so very important to us meticulous Beatles fans, eh?) wow do I feel bad wanting to hear this again over the White Album version

  • She's a musical angel in flesh and blood. I love you Carly! JT blew it ;D

  • Blackbird's Flight To Guitars

To fly above the surly sky,

And flee an earthly den of deny.

To leap more than a metre high,

And hurl heavenly in mercuric cry.

To dwell amongst the streaming stars,

And lay claim to far Jupiter and Mars.

To escape from our mother's little jars,

And be bourne ahigh by blackbird's guitars.

  • the beatles!

  • Beautiful voice, beautiful woman but I have to say one thing, dangerously thin.

  • ビートルズの中のアコースティックな曲の1曲。若い時とは違った良さがある歌です。

  • i like the original better

  • A very nice folk/country interpretation of this song. Almost everyone tries to mimic the Beatles' version of this. It's nice to hear a fresh rendition.

  • One of my favorite songs, I love Carly singing it, too!

  • I honestly hated it when I first heard it I didn't like the country style feel to it, but I give it 5 stars now, aquired taste

  • She is so underrated!!!!!

  • eh i don't like it

  • your beautiful voice enlightens my world, thank you carly!

  • your beutiful voice enlightens my world, thank you carly!

  • Carly's so talented also gorgeous

  • Lovely!

  • Nice version but a little to country for me.

  • not bad...

  • Blackbird gets reborn along with Carly!

  • carly's voice sounds like smoked wood. beautiful

  • Lindo, Lindo!!!

  • What a beautiful voice she has!!!!

  • blackbird fly into the light of the dark black night..

  • Carly, I love your music, I love you!~alan

  • Oh my god that was beautiful

  • Crosby Stills and Nash does a damn good version too. Just one fine peice of writing.

  • @PatchSG you are true but its a good song but not ment for her.

  • it's its own song, you know? not just a copy of someone else's ♥ it

  • yah, this is good

  • I had to get used to the somewhat slower pace of this version, but I really like this. Carly is great, she sings it in her entire own way (and that is the meaning of covering any song, or at least that is what it always should be)

  • Just lovely, as usual from Carly...

  • So many of them chord changes just sound wrong.

  • She Is a better song writer than cover artist.Sorry..She is not Dolly Parton who covers stuff better. She Is a musician and song writer,I bet she did not even play on this.Rather hear her stuff,Leave covers alone. She still has too much talent left.

  • Dear Carly, definitely you have reached that point when you're able to create simply beauty. Congratulations.

  • I was a security officer at The Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport in 1997 when Carly Simon came through my gate. Wow! I will never forget it! I was 35 years old then, and am 48 now, but she will always be a classy lady to me! She was the best, and only Cher and Olivia Newton-John could compete with her in the 70's. Carly Simon was one "Class Act!" :-)

  • if Paul would of debuted this with her we'd all be giveing are stamp of abroval when in truth she nailed it from the sadness of it to the blues in it..

  • nah this versions too dreary for my liking...

  • me encanta, es de mis favoritos

  • This is special, it doesnt sound like the beatles at all, but doesnt mean she's bad at all. as said, she's as good as beatles or any of the covers

  • Listen to Blackbird by Rachel Unthank. Just do it.

  • I hate how people make comments like, "Ruined a beautiful song" or things along those lines. The songs amazing. She wouldn't cover it if it wasn't anything short of that. Covers pay respect to the original.

  • ..how sensuous is this...

  • Lovely version of this great classic

  • Macca will love this version!

  • Carly Simon is still Great!!!

  • <3 Paul McCartney <3

  • Her voice is mostly gone, but the emotion's still there, and that's what makes this song.

  • way to bastardize a classic

  • perfect !

  • Such a sweet voice. I have always loved her music. love you Carly.

  • a great take on a great classic

  • funky chord progression....

  • It's funny because not many people know what actually inspired the original song.

  • slow and peacefull.....no hurry. very nice.......ya gotta love Carly.......heck ...ya need to love everyone!!!!!!

  • Great version with Carly's so sweet voice and personality. Love it!

  • she sounds somewhat like michael jackson..

  • The only moving thing was the eye of the blackbird- wallace stevens

  • too slow, not cool.

  • I've been in love with Carly since my teen years. When she is 100 yrs. old she will still be a beauty

  • Gorgeous, Pretty Pretty LADY.........IMP....

  • With such a beautiful and young-sounding voice and that ageless face you'd never guess that this was a woman in her 60's! Not a great arrangement of the classic song (too slow, a bit pretentious) but a very fine performance

  • rubbish

  • Considering how complex recordings are now and many studio tricks are pulled to make meagre voices sound good, I think it's refreshing and rather brave for her to record this song so simply.

  • She ain't playing that geeeetar. Nice cinematography though.

  • @jimmycoolcap what wrong wit you boy! it be gitar fool!

  • wow! beautiful rendition of an amazingly beautiful song

  • Falling asleep watching this extremely slower version.

  • As a UK Beatles fan I much prefer Carly's version in the same way that I prefer Eva Cassidys version of Stings Fields of Gold.

For me the slower tempo has greater meaning.

  • @frpd5 Agree.

  • welcome my grandaughter to this song

  • I loved it!!! Beautiful Carly!

  • if any one wants to know this song is also off i am sam movie and i like it because it really shows people who are handiecapped like me

  • i really prefer the guitar to be a simpler rhythm for this song

just me. still a very nice cover though

  • She WAS married to James Taylor, poeavor. There were divorced in 1983.

  • she is married to James Taylor

  • Really beautiful rendition. If you enjoy listening to covers of pieces, I can highly recommend the King's Singers version of this song - it is in no way the same piece as the Beatles but it is beautiful in it's own right.

  • the beatles are on a whole other level than the rest of this universe so for carlys version compared its an unfair match up kinda like UC and Florida in the sugar bowl...... but beatles set aside carly is an amazing artist so stop ripping on her.

  • Not a patch on the original, hoe can you do "Blackbird" in a different style to the original - it's perfection, you could perhaps embellish with a score,or backing vocals, but to change the original guitar line is just sacrilage!

  • Paul McCartney wrote it. Credits show Lennon/McCartney. On the Beatles White Album

  • Great song, who wrote it?

  • I usually prefer the original versions of songs, but I love this just as much as The Beatles'/Paul McCartney's versions.

  • ale spierdoliła tę piosenkę!!!

  • very nice version!

  • Beautiful!!!

  • I love how her facial expressions convey such passionate emotion.

  • Thank for posting that was great.

  • Un altro angelo che canta!! la musica è linguaggio di Dio.

  • beatlesi zawsze... piekna wersja

  • Lo que digan, es una preciosa interpretacion y un gran video. Gran voz, gran arreglo, grandes imagenes. Muy buen video.

  • CLASSIC CARLY !!!!!!! she has soul.. just not SUCKY soul... its deep

  • she sorta sounds like a man, Pretty good version though.

  • Not fond of this version , Carly Simon is a great singer but I don't like the way this was re arranged

  • @mikmc I agree. The strength of this song for me are the beautiful chord progressions and she pretty much arranged her own chords. Good effort but sub-par at best.

  • Carly Simon can easily sing anything including her stuff which is everlasting. She picked The Fab.

  • Nicely done.

  • I am with you jazzvibe, its not just the music its the place, the frame of mind you are in when listening to a song that also affect you. At 12

:46 in the morning writing an e-mail to a husband who no longer is, this song sounds pretty restful.

    Carol

  • Beautifully orchestrated.

  • Beautiful! I have aways loved Carly Simon

  • Love her!! great song!

  • I like Carly Simon. I also don't like to be negative, but this is a soulless rendition of a great song.

    No spirit, whatsoever. Sorry.

  • that's funny how music hit's different people. i really dug it. just a laid back version of the tune. just really simple. i just stumbled on to this.

  • Good, I'm glad you enjoyed it.

I agree with you totally, music is a very individual thing; that's the joy of it.

It may have been the time or my mood when I listened to it that made me feel this way. Having listened again, I still miss the invective soul in " into the light of the light of the dark black night." as Paul sings it.

The sun will still rise tomorrow. :-)

    Have a good one.

  • I too was really disappointed - Sarah Maclaclans version had much more soul (man)

  • great song, great take. thanks for this!

  • Pure graciousness in all that appears in the movie.

  • I doubt Paul would agree.

  • Genius

  • I'm an Beatles and this song fan and i think this version is very very beautiful.

versions different from the original many times help to discover hidden aspects of that song.

  • The best version of the song I've heard.

  • personally i think this is her best album, the most spiritual one. These covers cover a certain time in her life and she gives you a glimpse of her soul.

Pallet 3473 will probably reincarnate as a blackbird about a dozen times ;-)

  • I like it a lot...Guess I'm just one of her die-hard fans, eh pallet?

  • sorry pallet3473, any using the phrase "an important figure" cannot be taken seriously. It is fine if you do not like the song or how Ms Simon sings it, but the pretentiousness of your comment makes it less than useful.

  • Sorry Carly. You were once an important figure in the folk rock movement but this is incredibly aweful!!!!! Don't like your arrangemnent and you are not even "singing" but more so "talking" and flubbing up the melody. Maybe die hard fans will dig it but I think it's trash.

  • So beautiful..

  • gorgeous version...

  • Wow - One of my favorite songs. THis makes me forget all about McCartney... Didn't think that could happen.

  • I wish i was around i the 70s guh ida stole her awawy

  • so beautiful

  • love this

  • you dont get this do you ?

  • yah I would

  • úna dulce voz para este precioso tema stiddi

  • I'd swim the Atlantic to hug her if she asked me to.

  • No you wouldn't.

  • lol buzz kill

  • drove all night to hold her tight.

  • excellent cover! i like the softness of her voice, and how the guitar seems to bee carying it.

  • black bird fly

    Carly knows

  • Excellent ! The recent Judy Collins' version is excellent too.

    Great thanks !

  • When I thought I was dying of cancer 4 yrs. ago, this was my anthem. I'm still here and grateful to Carly for her song.

  • glad to hear ur well :)

  • I'm late coming but I finally made it,

Carly I love you and you know what ? I always have :( ....... :)

  • What else is there to say? She has done it all. Bravo, Carly! May I call you carly?

  • aint she something?

  • Carly...you're a timeless beauty.

  • She's such a great artist. Crystal clear vocals. "Blackbird" is a beautiful song, and her rendition is excellent.

thank you, slippman, for posting this

    video.

  • I love her

  • I keep coming back.

    Must be love ;-)

  • exquisite cover ♥

  • smooth

  • too bad her 4 Into White videos were not seamed together as a music short. It would be great!

    INTO WHITE---morning

    SCARBOROUGH FAIR--late afternoon

    BLACKBIRD--sunset

    QUIET EVENING--evening

w/ special features including Carly talking about the songs, etc.

  • That is beautiful.

  • she seemed so at peace, yet the years of struggle were with her. the night looked sweet smelling and embraced this little sparrow singing her song, that touched me.

  • brilliant cover and love the clip out in the field. The lyrics are so lovely like a poem.

  • I like the way she pronounces her "r's." Notice how Streisand always fudges the "r"? She gives it an "ahhh," but Carly Simon gives a good solid "r".

  • Carly is a Rare Beauty love her music and she did this song justice...That is a good book Studio551 all the stories very interesting...love women in rock

  • She's still so hot, so talented. Anyone interested in her should read the book 'Girls Like Us' which also tells the story of Joni Mitchell & Carole King

  • And I still love her... Best wishes from São Paulo, Brazil.

  • LOVELY!!!
