  • this woman sure does have one helluva powerful voice...

for all the good stuff shes done over the years, its a wonder how she hasnt been more successful or been given more recognition in the uk

  • Tiny Tim on the Keyboards Ladies and Gentleman, give it up for Tiny Tim!

  • I think the keyboard player needs a double scotch..........neet.

  • I like Cher Tina turners version better than the original!!!

  • For everyone from Montpellier :-)

  • The piano player looks so freaking stoned. You only see his face around 0:33

  • That was volcanic ! This song was amazing, one of the Soul Eruptions in british female singing, leading further to Dusty Springfield and nowadays Amy Winehouse. Its really a shame iif she gave up singing.

  • its a shame she dose not sing anymore.

  • Apparently 10 people :

    A. Didn't like this great hit from the 70's (probably because it wasn't Rap)

    B. Didn't have any music in them.

  • You know not my generation, but damn shes a sexy girl. Weakness for redheads.

  • @Faelsun She certainly was. In spades.

  • @Faelsun , I always liked girls that looked like Kiki in those days

    .

  • How funny, bassist phil curtis is my music tutor at collage....wait till i see him next.....

  • just LOVE this song! ty for posting

  • Steve Coogan lol

Don't forget KD was on Tamla Mowtown before Elton swept her up. This style of song isn't unusual for her.

The great Roger Pope on drums too. Rare Appearance on film.

All in all an awesome performance of an awesome song

  • Kiki's keyboardist looks like Steve Coogan with a wig on!! LOL

  • Kick this classy gutsy performance forward nearly 30yrs:

Useless untalented judge No1 Simon:......Shite, although I need to smile and show my natural white aligned perfect teeth, so i`ll say you are going all the way luv, specially when i sign you up after the show so you make me millions.........

    Muppett judge No 2...................ditto

    Muppet judge No 3...............ditto

  • If that was a live performance that is absolutely awesome

  • @gruad999 That was live - she was not lip syncing and I even noticed some feedback on the track.

  • Kiki's vocal style here is very reminiscent of the early Elkie Brooks (in her "Rich Man's Woman" period). Every bit as good, too.

But I have to agree with thula2 that the song itself is second-rate.

  • I totally forgot about this song until I heard it in the car tonight. I forgot this was Kiki. A lot gutsier than "Don't Go Breaking My Heart." She almost sounds like a black woman, which is a good thing. Pretty good song. Too bad she faded out of the mainstream.

  • @TheRandomZtuff Make the most of him by the way in your first year, he will teach you an awful lot - most of it totally inappropriate, but nevertheless!

  • @TheRandomZtuff He was my tutor last year. He is the coolest man alive. In that sense we have a lot in common, I am the coolest woman alive - but think that's a bass player thing!!! I am so proud to say he was my tutor.

  • @lordsophiebass It's not just a bass player thing. It's well known that bass players are the coolest people alive, anyone will tell you that. Well, anyone who plays bass of course, but then who else would you ask anyway??

  • Thats my music teacher on bass... yeah ;)

  • 0:33 Fuck that bitch is high..

  • I LOVE THE 70s!! too bad it never comes back.. and i live in 2011 :l

  • She is literally old enough to be my mother; That stated, I wish my mother was as talented as her. Oh well, can't have everything, right?

  • 0:31 Zoned out John Cusack

  • For everyone who has written that there aren't singers like Kiki anymore, please check out Grace Potter and The Nocturnals.

  • Damn she was hot.

  • @exxcalibur1973 Absolutely!! I only wish she had made more big songs .....

  • This song always makes me smile & want to get up & dance. I TOTALLY got the music in me!

  • @stacerico : me too !

  • grat voice

  • i'm not sure about that ole boy on the keyboard at the start. 1974, maybe a little Acapulco Gold involved. He had the blind stares.

  • those were the days!!!!

  • The guitarist with the puka shell necklace looks just like my first boyfriend!

  • we're singing this song in my chorus! love it!

  • I reckon she's got more than the music in her, maybe a couple of marbles up her chuff? She's a Yorkshire lass and would be used to that. Great vocal performance, shame there's no song, and the band are bland.

  • @vvqe these comments are not mine....i have been hacked

  • @WorkHardBasketball - LIKE I'VE ALWAYS SAID........IF YOU CAN'T HACK IT........STAY OUT OF THE U - TUBE.

  • Nine people dont have the music in them.

  • kiki can sing

  • Pupákok, hol vannak ma ilyen előadók, ilyen dalok? Futószalagon gyártott percemberkék gyülekezete az egész kül- és belföldi popszakma!

Kiki Dee is egy a megismételhetetlen csodák közül!

  • a good blast from the past and not all the blasts from the past are good but this is a good one.

  • i know one thing, she had sex on a radiator at a party in the 70's

    :)

  • horrible music my ears are bleadiing

  • So attractive and what a singer. Entertainment has really gone down hill.

  • Wow~ I didn't konw she was this good!!

  • 8 people do not have the music in them!

  • @bigsbz No : 9 !!!

  • 37 years later, This song STILL KICKS ASS ! Missin this kind of talent these days. No Warbling, No Gaudy outfits. Just Talent. Pure and Simple Talent. Raw Energy. Thanks for the post!

  • Dopamine levels are off the charts

  • The Sing Off Season 2 brought me here. ^.^

  • Fananstic great work of art

  • Fantasticoooooooooooo! Pump up the volume...

  • Fell in love with this song and voice the first time I heard them. That she never made it big is just one of the MANY mysteries of the "music business."

  • @rennyshelton It could have had something to do with her making a play for the then top guy, a certain Mr J, when the said Mr J was trying to figure out what would happen to his ailing career if he came out as gay.

Doesn't do to shake the upper branches when you're still climbing the tree.

  • @rennyshelton She made it big enough at the time. Gotta remember, this was the dawning of Arena Rock era and Full scale Stadium fillers were the more popular of the genre. Not many ladies at the time were packing the aisles. And the competition between them was fierce.

  • 'Never frightened or worriett' ??? The music in may?

  • The girl/guy idk looks so stoned at :33

  • Was this shot in Pres B?

  • the guy on the keyboard looks wasted.

  • Friend is doing it for school

  • One of my all time favourite songs! Wow!

  • check out the dude at 32-33 seconds......talk about "stoned"...lol....great song..

  • Fun I am doing this for a school dance really fun hehe

  • difference is: they COULD sing ;-)

  • i love kiki and this song....it's great... she's a lady !

  • Kiki hit #12 in Billboard, 11-30-74. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx! Born Pauline Matthews.

  • I have to sing this for choir at my school ;|

  • she's hot

  • Only 131,000 hits....probadly cause she never got her due... KIKI you rock...WOW!!!

  • smell her sweat under her armspit yaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • Absolutely amazing voice, there are very very few so called singers today, who could match that live performance!!

  • kiki dee so cute mmmmmmmmmmm

  • @:30 the heroin starts to kick in....

  • O my god we have to sing this on school.

  • god we have to sing this at school out of jam and sing books

    help us XP

  • ValeyofGalon: That must have been an AMAZING show! This woman can rock anyone current off the stage...Man, do I miss the days of soul music, no matter the color!

  • Wow! thaks for posting! :)

  • i like that guy on 0:46 :D

  • what a voice, damn good !

  • You're right my friend. Who needs Lady Blah, blah? Get her out of here.

  • Her real name is Pauline Matthews, she is from Bradford in Yorkshire. Amazing, such a "black" voice for a white woman! She is GREAT!

  • The keyboardist has the quaaludes in him.

  • Wow! Remember when women actually used to sing? Awesome.

  • @devtrev You mean the days before AUTOTUNE

  • @devtrev Am I missing something? Women sing and kick ass at it all the time. Who have you been listening to?

  • @devtrev Am I missing something? Women sing and kick ass at it all the time. Who have you been listening to?

  • @wolffalice I just mean that everything is so processed sounding now. There are some ass kicking women out there, but they don't really get played all that much.

  • @wolffalice Not many can sing like this.

  • @devtrev Look up "Lady Gaga Presents - Born This Way Acapella (HBO)"

  • @devtrev Check out Grace Potter.

  • @dramarhiannon I wasn't familiar with her, but you're right. Good call.

  • this is what rock is supposed to be.

  • In those days people were musicians who got famous by "accident".

Now adays there are people who want to become famous no matter what.

You know what? Let's go to Idols or Nobody's got talent and let's pretend to be a musician. This is a SINGER with MUSICIANS. (Yes, in captals!)

  • wtf at 0:33??

  • Timeless! will they still be playing rap in 30 years - I doubt it.

  • OMG...that keyboarder looks soooooooooo fried out of his mind! hahahaha LOL

  • @bbsunshine11 - I THOUGHT THE SAME DAM THING! That is *SO* funny, because I remember when this was a "new release..."

    ;)

  • @Edcognito ghahahaha...i know me to!!! LOL scary how long ago that was!!! LOL

  • Who was the keyboardest? Because I laugh every time he had that tired look. I'm like, 'Get him some coffee-we've only started!'

  • FANTASTIC!!! DYNAMO

  • I always loved this song. If don't think it's got soul, don't get upset, you're already dead. You know it's tough to pull off 'cause haven't heard it duplicated. I know some people probably get upset over this, but a woman with a similar voice doing this with a heavier band would probably rule. Regardless, gotta love the 70's. Not even my style but gotta say, "That's the good stuff."

  • Wow is that what it used to take to get famous? Now all you gotta do is sell your soul :x

  • she so cute

  • Saw her when she toured and opened for Elton John.. Had a camera with me and took so many pix of her band, I didn't have too many shots of Elton.. She and her band rocked...

  • Simply great! Timeless song!

  • WOW WOW WOW and... WOW! Kiki kickin' ass. And doin' it live! I saw Kiki live and onstage with this band at the Troubador in L.A. in 1974. She put it out there 100% without dressing like a slut or wearing meat. Now we're stuck with the likes of Lady Gag-me and her meat dress. Get off the stage Gaga. Kiki could open up a can -o whoop ass on you honey.

  • @valleyofgalon LOL! Testify! I loved Kiki in her day. Rock on!

  • @valleyofgalon Yes, Yes, Yes...take me back to the days of Janis Joplin, Grace Slick, Kiki Dee, Aretha Franklin, Bonnie Bramlett...when women pop singers were true talents rather than generic cookie cutouts!

  • @valleyofgalon Thank you for your comment. I have been singing since the early 70s and used to perform this song with my band. In the 80s and beyond, following Madonna, it just seemed like singers always had to look like hookers or pole dancers to be noticed. Today, it seems the young girls all sound alike, and the outrageous egomaniacs, like Lady Gaga, who are making a spectacle of themselves....it detracts from the real talent. How refreshing to see this video and hear Kiki Dee again.

  • @valleyofgalon

Hell YES! She most certainly would open a can o' WhooooooP ASS on that skank!

This is a real singer right here, not some posing fraud of a female. These "Artists" of today are woefully shameful in their attempts at making meaningful songs. Give it up you pathetic posers.

  • haha...bought this single as a 16 year old then,...was mesmerized.

  • she sure can sing...whew...live too. excellent

  • 0:31 EPIC FACE

  • Ah, the music of the seventies when you got to hear real songs played by real muscians on real instruments. Today's music has no real talent, it's really sad what it's come to.

  • brilliant vocals , great band , ive always loved the drum breaks in this song.

  • Great singer and great lineup!

    those were the real musicians.

many of today's so called stars would piss in their pants if they had to perform live without backtrack.

Great Kiki, thanks for everything you've done.

  • @piezoelettrico

Yes nobodye seems to realize they came from various obscure but excellent underground bands, like Liverpool Scene, Spirit of John Morgan, Juici Lucy or Trees. And was Trees' Bias Boshell who wrote this song!

  • @rd03gian Oh yes, and why why why did she never really make it? Astounding voice. She was the only white person ever to be signed for Tamla Motown. You rock Kiki!

  • Comment removed

  • dis is da musik!

  • Artists from this era knew how to rock out in front of a live audience. They had the skills and talent to back it up. Nowadays, many of today's stars can't do live performances without something to "enhance" their vocals......

As Elton John said, people should not have to pay loads of money to hear someone performing to a backtrack in concert....

Note to todays up and coming artists: If you want a career that means something and have credibility, learn to master the art of performing live!

  • @woohooboy they were "Entertainers" !! so little of that Today !!

  • no miming required,what a woman.

  • I had a crush on Kikki and what a voice!!!

  • English Hottie , I thought long time ago she was from Spain (well she looks Spaniard)

  • Excellent song! Lots of talented musicians those days. Even the keyboardist looks like he is mariguano @ 0:32

  • Forgot to say: Jo Partridge is the dark hair hunk on the left side of the screen. Great solo at 2:53.

  • Look, every generation has a Kiki Dee..but Im so glad I have Kiki Dee!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great music...great times...!

  • Gut good.Bangin' clean singable.

Gal having a good time and letting it fly.

This song is very familiar, heard it lots...never saw the performer. Wow, I wish I had made this acquaintance sooner.

    Tom Loughlin Jr, Utica NY

  • I never knew she was this damn sexy when I was a kid. Glad my eyes work a little better now I'm 44 years old.

She is smoking. A REAL WOMAN>

  • one sexeeee lady, what a voice

  • natural voice!!

  • I love this version!

I've had the 7" single since the 70s. Great to hear it like this, live, without the extra backing vocals and orchestration. Fantastic band.

Kiki Dee is just brilliant beyond words!

  • Kiki ROCKS! What is she doing now, anyway? AND who is that nice looking dude in the western shirt?

  • @zippitydooahms Jo Partridge.

  • haven't listened to this in a few months....don't know why i don't listen to it everyday. this song and performance are superb!

    Rock on kiki!

  • VERY good for a 4 peice band. The recording had much more instruments...but her voice on this song was great!

  • I wanna give her a big stomach.............lol

  • @cropsey7 I hear ya brutha ! I'm still laughing about your comment, that's a good one !

  • actually here's the trick.. i went to greatmpify [dot] com to download this song as an mp3.

  • I got words in my head so I say them!!!!! Yeah!!!!

  • wonderful. how very expressive makes you wanna cry. What soul

  • I got the music in me. How 'bout you! Love this old tune.

  • thordoggie, that is a strange remark. I meant 70's not 60's. By the way you should check out Ronstadt's live performance of her song "You're No Good" also from 1974. Like Dee she too also plays with a tambourine!

  • Wow, that was great!

  • Great song!

  • omg this chick is fucking rad! she's beautiful and has got some serious pipes on her. how come i haven't heard this before? i need to expand

  • After watching this again, there was probably only one female singer from the 70's that could take a performance, like what Dee does here, of a song and control the audience like a driving wheel: And that would be Linda Ronstadt.

  • @EricandDish linda couldn't do this as well as kiki...now Janis Joplin most certainly could! god, could you imagine janis and kiki together?

oh...listen to linda perry from the band "four non-blondes" she's 99.9% of janis reincarnated!

  • Was this the first disco song? Or did Gloria Gaynor do it with "Never Can Say Goodbye" that year? Speaking of it, if someone puts out a list of 25 songs that defied 1974, this would make it (and so would ABBA with "Waterloo"). Look at those boots Dee is wearing-it's a cross between what Sandie Shaw wore on "Top of the Pops" in 1969 and what the just-mentioned ABBA was wearing at this point in '74.

  • holy cow. I cannot believe that I went to the bathroom, this tune popped in my head out of the blue, then to actually see it!!! I also loved it, and love the comments also.

  • @59joyful Is that because mabey the songs shit?

  • she's beautiful !

  • That's Roger Pope on drums. He played with Elton in 75 and 76.I wonder what happened to him? And the rest of the Rock of the Westies band members??

  • @mrgb46 I saw Caleb Quaye live in San Pedro, CA a couple weeks ago. His guitar sounds as good as it ever has!!

  • @GTownSlim Caleb is still amazing! I've had the honor of performing with him and quite frankly he's as great of a person as he is a musician - the perfect band mate as he rips it but never steps on anyone else, making us all sound better as a result. Like all the greats, he doesn't even work up a sweat but his presence and music do all the "talking." Am so glad that he's recording and touring again.

  • @mrgb46 Roger's living in England, his touring days are over. Kenny's teaching and producing music based in Arizona (I think). Ray's toured with Clapton for quite some time and has shown up in many all-star bands as well. James is an award-winning movie soundtrack composer/conductor. Caleb has a new band called "the Faculty" and he's recorded a couple of albums/toured with them the past few years, playing jazz/fusion. Davey's still with Elton. That was a great band. Wish they recorded more.

  • @intrepidsinger Thanks for letting me know..Also,Ray did a tour with EJ overseas this year,I think..

  • @mrgb46 You are most welcome! Didn't know that but am not surprised as nobody makes a tambourine sing like Ray and he was such an integral part of Elton's sound for many years. Do you by any chance know who's playing keys with Elton now since Guy passed away? Best wishes.

  • @intrepidsinger I don't know who's playing keyboards with EJ's new band..It might say on EJ's website..elton john dot com..

  • @mrgb46 Thanks for the tip! It's Kim Bullard, formerly w/CSN, Poco, Bette Midler and many others.

  • @intrepidsinger Where is Jo Partridge (dude with the western shirt. ? I wonder where he is now. Great guitarist.
