  • Bottles that are made of clear thin plastic can be used to purify your water with sunlight. There's no more need for purification tablets or chlorine.

  • Jason, have enjoyed your videos very much... lots of really practical, useful info! I have learned much from your videos. Good job!

  • @amelbegic78 while every loves their Nalgene, they are actually very heavy.

  • Belly button lint also makes a great fire starter. If you save enough you can make home made pillow.

  • plastic spoon will break.

With a metal spoon you can use it to dig or sharpen the handle and use it as a pick.

How do you prevent the styrofoam cup from being crushed.

  • @Mecha04 you can find a stick/rock to dig, sharpen the found stick as a pick, and you can store the cup in your cooking pot/mug

  • Very nice video. ty man

  • jason!!! ur awesome man. thanks for the gr8 posts.

  • I hate the Taco Bell sporks! I can't tell you the last time one didn't break while trying to cut a mexican pizza. I'd go with something more substantial. Check out the plasticware at Boston Market, or Qdoba instead. They've got stuff that will last...But be nice and buy something from them at least. :)

  • although light and free...boiling water in an aluminum can is extremely unhealthy for numerous reasons. The grade of aluminum is not suitable for heating and then consuming what youve heated in it, and all cans be it soda or beer, have a plastic lining in them that you cant see that melts into whatever your cooking. You can suck up the few ounces for a healthier safer option, its the wiser choice

  • So basicaly you're kleptoman. Anyway, great video.

  • Have you thought of using a plastic Glad Container. It comes free with Hillshire Farm meat and with the lid it only weighs 1.125 oz.

  • Thank you for your informative video.

You are now officially banned from all Taco Bell Restaurants™.

    Sincerely, Taco Bell Restaurants™.

  • LOL

  • thief!!! LOL

  • is that an upside down plate ?????

  • Thanks, the dryer lint was a great suggestions, going to raid the laundry room trash can for our backpacking trip :)

  • Really liked a few of these ideas...They will help me out a lot..TY for this Vid. =)

  • take 1 big soup tin when ur done with the soup u can use it as a pan to cook things in it i tried it on my stove and works even beter then a pan cuz it heats up faster

  • Nice vid jason. I laugh at all the expensive gear. I don't like the styrofoam cup tho as it leaks plastic into hot drinks. It's almost impossible to find any plastic containers that don't, particularly if used over (they're tested to be relatively safe in single use). Paper cups are laminated with polyethylene. Silicone rubber is heavy and bendy. Metal cups burn your lips (hence Snow Peak's Hot Lips). But for a cheap cup I'm now looking for or to make a wooden one.

  • At the rate I drink beer, I could open up an ultralight backpackers stove company.

  • hi not sure on a lot of what you say is useful long term maybe for very short term trips. but one thing i would pass on is the best mug is a "single wall stainless steel mug"

can be used as a cooking pot and you can keep your drinks hot by just putting on or near the heat source. Obviously with dual walls they are not good for this as they build pressure and explode.

so in conclusion as a long term ultra light traveller i would suggest also looking at the number of uses a single item has.

  • really a great vid, thou i have tryed to use those cheap bottles like coca-cola bottles and so, and it sucks if you have to cool down your water if you boil it to purify it, it will shrink or get holes.... otherwise your vids are awsome

  • Great video. Subscribed!

  • Great video.

Anybody can go camping if they are equipped like an astronaut. It takes outdoor skill and knowledge to do it in a minimalistic way. Try taking as little as possible.

  • I recenlty went to DQ and got an icecream the spoon they give are longer that taco bell so i use that now

  • how do you make the heineken pot

  • yeah i was using the water bottle and in the parking lot before my trip and i dropped it on the asphalt and it got a hole in it......... i think i will stick with my nalgene but good video

  • there are only 2 reasons i dont use aquifina bottles, the mounth is too narrow to get inside and clean if it gets dirty or u are using it for all your drinks and its not light enough for a steripen!

  • Really helpful stuff - thank you Jason. Keep it coming :-)

  • Gram Weanie!

  • Thanks, Good video. I just got my kevlar tape in the mail for my Heineken pot. I also use aquafina bottles and not the expensive over rated nalgene bottles.

  • Great video. I have used stuff like this for years and people should know that they need to be prepared for dealing with all the gear snobs out there. I can't count the number of times people have laughed at some of my gear - but I also can't count the times that I've laughed when their high end expensive gear fails them. For going light, I also can't stress enough how important it is to ensure that most of your items serve multiple purposes.

  • pencil from a sushi bar?

  • can you use any cans for a pot like tecate

  • great video

  • stirafoam will be crushed in your pack

  • @outdoorsman535 inside the beer can it wont

  • @outdoorsman535 not if you stuff something inside the cup to balance the pressure. Though I would still be hesitant to bring only a styrofoam cup if I drank coffee.

  • @outdoorsman535 Just put it in the haineken pot.

  • Nice. The same goes for food. Why pay a fortune for Mountain House? Things like dried mashed potatoes, minute rice and freeze-dried bulk soup mix and beans can be had at the supermarket for a fraction of the price of REI stuff.

  • I would spare a few onces and bring a tin canteen instead of a plastic bottles.

  • @Trsmoothie A metal canteen can be used to heat water, plastic bottles are free and light.

  • awesome video, this is how i have always packed!

  • Tyvek is a great material for backpacking that can be found being thrown out in mass quantities at construction sites. It's useful for making light weight tarps, shelters, ponchos, etc. Definitely a great item that belongs in this video.

  • I'll take the extra few ounces over the fragility of plastic eatery and styrafoam cups. Thanks for the ideas though. And another thing with the coffe bags, on most I've seen a plastic insert usualy around the front center label designed to squeeze air out to keep your coffe fresh. I'm not sure how it works with fluids but I wouldn't put anything smelly in it for sure.

  • To be honest i am not a fan of these very thin PET bottles. They are anything else but indestructible, simply drop them accidentally or forget them near by the fire and they get leak. I know that sounds a bit like from some kinda trash survival tv show, but its the truth, if ur watersupplies get leak and u dont notice or stop them from leaking, that can lead into trouble depending on where u are.

  • @netfischer what do you mean get a leak? i have boiled water in a PET waterbottle( an aquafina bottle to be exact) with no problems... aslong as there is water in the bottle and you dont leave it for a LONG time they will be fine

  • I switched to Wendy's spoons. Larger, and less prone to break.

  • I have used the pots for a good few years now and have had no trouble with them.

aluminimum is NOT associated with alziemers etc. That myth has been done and got rid of.

Have you looked what makes stainless steel up ie its compsition?

There could be many metals in there, including ali

All these ideas are just that ideas!

Take or leave, but its easyto assume that they are silly. Try them out and see.

If you are clumsy/ham fisted. Then dont use a styro cup! simples!

  • well guese what is going to happen to that little cup when you stuff it into a already stuffed backpack. CRUNCH!

  • THANK YOU!

  • How you can lighten your pack is not take one.

  • Hey Jason,

    awesome video and nice tips!

I think you can also use the nice little IKEA-pencils as a writing utensil.

    best wishes

  • Chopsticks! Learn to use them and learn to make them in the wild..........Knowledge and skill are the best way to lighten your load.

  • Awesome brillian vid! I subbed!

  • Carpenters pencils are better for graphite shaving for lubrication of hinged tools.

  • Very cool, great ideas....I've been using a few for awhile. Things I've come across are to lose the rainfly n extra tent stakes......put EVERYTHING you can in sandwich bags (coffe, sport drink pwders, etc - lose the plastic/glass containers)

  • Thanks for the tips...

  • "one-use" plastic bottles like Aquafina use BPA in the manufacture of the plastic used, which leaches out of the plastic over time and is toxic.

  • @beege19

Most water bottles, including Aquafina, are made from #1 PET plastic which does not contain BPA.

  • @beege19

If you're not careful it can kill you in less than 122 years.

  • One thing to keep in mind about cooking using cans is that there is usually a chemical on the inside to keep them from rusting. This chemical can be slightly poisonous when heated. Luckily from what I've heard, if you wash it out with soap then boil water in it maybe two or so times, most of it will be washed/evaporated off. The downside to this is that now the can is capable of rusting so you shouldnt use it more than 2 or 3 times.

  • A smart guy like you... why not try "fannypacking"? Travel light and tight! ^_^

  • I have been preaching stuff like this for years! Alot of people want to go run out and buy the expensive "super light" gear when stuff like this is weighs less, works better and is pretty expendable if something happens to it. And alot of people don't ralize that they spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to develop the "space pen" for US astronauts when the soviets just used a pencil!lol

  • Great video. How did you cut the top off of the Heineken so that it will still work as a cap? Where do you get Kevlar tape?

  • Wow. Thanks so much. This is likely not totally the same, but when I travel internationally, I like to travel as light as possible, but look good/stylish and have creature comforts. Your video was a gentle reminder why it's so unnecessary to spend money buying crap when we often have most of what's needed.

  • Boston market has the best free sporks

  • I'm not sold on the spork or the cup. Way too likely to break and way too much of a bummer if it DOES break.

I love the coffee bag and condiments ideas!

Water bottles are starting to be made with skimpier and skimpier caps to save on plastic. Don't buy one of these skimpy cap water bottles for backpacking use as a water bottle; instead get a large carbonated beverage bottle, since they CAN'T skimp on those.

  • Just an FYI - you can get pencils from other places than golf courses or sushi bars, such as Walmart or Work. Haha... good video

  • Wouldnt recommend cooking with beer cans or other cans of the sort, most have liners that when heated releases whatever was used for the liner into whatever your cooking=/ great tips though thanks*thumbs up*

  • I've tried two side cutting can openers on heineken cans, but can't seem to find one that doesn't dent the top of the can. Any suggestions?

  • Liked the video. Had to laugh at the Taco Bell sporks. You said that and I look over to the right and I have a stash of Taco Bell Sporks I have been collecting.

  • Wow....don't use a can as a pot. All Aluminum cans have a liner that will lift off can get in your food....with lots of BPA. Make sure you are using cans that don't have a liner.....and those are hard to find

  • Haha dude... appreciate the good intentions of your video and attempt of humor at the end =D I couldn't help but noticed you snag stuff everywhere you go LOLs. Just kidding man, great ideas and definitely helpful.

  • so basically what you are saying is that you can STEAL all of this stuff you need???? hmm...??moral dilemnas, moral dilemnas...what's a person to do???

  • great tips!!!!

nix the bottled water though. look up the impact they have and you'll see the nalgene style bottles are way better in the long run as far as waste and the environment.

the heineken can jet boil style stove is pure genius though.

    thanks and keep em' coming.

  • We can't find the large-mouth 1 L Aquafina bottles anymore where I live (eastern Canada)... that sucks.

  • MMM Fat Tire! You must be from the mid-west! I went to a festival in Arkansas (Wakarusa) and had the pleasure of tasting it for the first time...I am a New Englander myself. Needless to say I was loving the Fat Tire! Delicious!

  • I liked the info and have already implemented into my S&R pack thanks

  • how did you make those aluminum can stoves?

  • thanks for the help im defienantly going to use that plastic fork rather than the metal sppon that we use

  • nice. im on that boat myself.

  • Great tips. I really like the Spyderco Delica! I carry one myself. Thanks!

  • The coffee bag idea was new to me, thanks for that!

Here is my gear rule: Cheap, Sturdy, or Lightweight - Pick two. All of these suggestions will work and are good for people starting out, students, etc. and they keep some trash out of the landfills. I think if you fell on your pack while hiking that you'd lose your coffee cup and beer can pot. It's excellent to know how to use these and they're great for easing someone in, but if you frequent the wilds you need sturdy gear, IMHO.

  • The scary thing is that the heaviest unneeded thing I carry is about 30 pounds of fat around my waist.... I'm hoping to cut my *total* pack weight once I trim my saddlebags.... (I'm figuring I can cut an ounce every mile I walk: 16 miles a day = 16 ounces a day = 1 lb of fat = 30 lbs of fat a month...). What a way to diet :-/

  • nice concept but.... everything there (besides obvs things like lint) are extremely flimzy

are you sure they wont be destroyred in your rucksack

  • thanks a lot! this really helps me before my first backpacking trip!

  • instead of a taco bell spork I got a spoon/fork/knife that is extremely light for 2 or 3 dollars.I've seen them an walmart and bass pro shops

  • I bet this guys pack weighs about 12pounds haha.......

no for real how much dose your pack weigh?

  • Great ideas! I'm very new to this and your video helps a lot! Thanks.

  • sporks are the future. I love mine!

  • Cool and helpful vid.

    Good ideas.

    :O)

  • You spork stealer you! lol

  • hey you can use some chopsticks that you pick up at your local sushi bar for free as tent stakes, they work really well...

  • the cup would not last long in my pack. i understand it could go inside a more rigid container.. but i am pretty rough on my gear. the idea about the 1 liter bottles is nice, only problem is that many water filters that i have owned or used have a nalgene-sized attachment. this would make refilling bottles difficult at times i chose not to use sanitizing tablets.

  • great video i cant belive ive never thought of the can stove idea lol thanks bra

  • This is just sorta odd.

  • hi8 i like ur vid ty vm. idea: dryer link no wax on it catches gr8 with flint/steel......so does the green old man moss off trees. i'm 56 yr old lady been doing it for years.

  • none of this touf enof for me lol

  • This is exactly how i hike. Great vid

  • It isn't free by a mylar emergency blanket is incredible warm and light weight. It makes sure you have no need for a sleeping bag or extra blankets, if you can put up with a little noise.

  • Some good ideas but if i may poke some hole styrofoam cups aren't very sturdy and easily puncherd / crushed (we've all done it to lie to your self you've been out and you havent seen a tree rote and uv trip over it or somthing to that affect) so id rather carry an extra few grams of weight if it means i have a cup lol

As for the spork thats actually a real good idea but id carry more than 1 just incase.

  • Nice concept, traveling gear is way overpriced. And they can brake or get lost as well as cheap stuff, so why not get economical. Idea is to travel, see interesting things and have fun, not to show off you expensive stuff, wich gives out unnessecary attention ...

  • nice vid

  • i liked the video

  • great vid

  • You should rename this episode "the klepto camping kit" ;) Only razzin ya. I grab some of that stuff too. Thanks for pointing out the value of a thrifty mindset. Happy hiking !

  • STREET LIFE STYLE, NICE!

  • Some good ideas, some really bad ideas...

-The cup?? come on, all it takes is one slip, squeeze, or drop and its gone, why waste time and worry over trying to protect a dixie cup...stupid idea.

-Golf course pencil, ya maybe but once again why waste time and effort trying to protect something from breaking, at least bring more than one, and don't forget a knife to sharpen it when the tip breaks. -dont try and be macgyver and fashion a stove from a beer can, get something good you can count on.

  • great video to open minds, but some of these items aren't very durable....and once they're gone they are gone!

  • I have a headache

  • hey if you continue to use the same plastic bottles you'll be poisoning yourself from the plastic that leaches into the water even after the first fill up. Whenever you drink a beverage from plastic (some plastics leach even worse chemicals) when the product gets warm or is exposed to sunlight is when plastic leaches petrolium byproducts into your water!! use stainless steel or glass

  • @frankdizzlexy ---And if you continue to breathe, you significantly increase you chances of getting cancer. A study has shown that those that have stopped breathing have reduced their chances of getting cancer by 100%

  • @frankdizzlexy one of my friend's teachers said that a chemical it release is taken into the body as estrogen. ever since i heard that i switched to metal bottles.

  • @Nershedify Your teacher's talking about BPA (Bisphenol A) which is a xenoestrogen. I use a platypus bottle (BPA free and lighter than aquafina) but its kinda expensive and floppy.

  • the cup would brake!!!!!!

  • Of course this is stating the obvious, but he is dead on correct when he points out that people spend hundreds of dollars to lighten up this stuff. It's a good video to open up our minds to the great stuff around us. NALGENE is for mountaineering in the winter, not backpacking in the woods!

  • Great video Jason! I am new to backpacking and this video was very educational to me. Cheers!

  • Great video Jason! I am new to backpacking and this video was very educational to me. Cheers!

  • i think u drank all that heineken before making this video...

  • @acexprt

Never! Heineken is only good for making UL pots, not for drinking. But Fat Tire, now that's a different story.

  • @jasonklass

I agree Heineken is good for dowsing fires. I prefer drinking a good Doppel bock

  • @jasonklass hell yes

  • I stripped the metal supports and unnecessary clips, straps and daisy chains out of my 15 year old Kelty internal frame and lost about 2 lbs. With most of the purchased sil nylon ultralight packs you need to use your pad as a support so I figured why not try with a good old denier pack!

  • Kimlan Soy sauce!

  • i really like your taco bell spork and small condiment idea i used to use them but now adays i use a really light durable hardend plastic spork from walmart which originally weigh .2 oz but can be trimmed to point 1 oz and are about 25 cents in the walmart camping section

  • Hey Jason,

I think it's really cool that you take the time to share the things you've learned about ultra light backpacking. I'm always looking for ways to improve my hiking and camping experience. Your videos are informative, well conceived, and have helped me to refine my style. Thank you for sharing.

    Cheers!

    Rocky

  • Thanks for the tips, very useful.

  • Taking stuff without a purchase is stealing. Buy something and ask for condiments and they will throw in more salt and ketchup than you will need. No problem with the styrofoam cup as long as you take it out of the woods when you leave.

  • @stickman409 lolssss! your right this man is a liar, thief, and an anti-environmentalist.

really though didn't you notice that he included a nifty coffee trash bag in his video? Unless he plans on throwing that at Bambi's home too.

  • i see the gripe about taking a styrofoam cup, but general backpacker practices is leave no trace people, take everything with you leave only footprints. This guy does have some great ideas though.

  • @bman3725

If you leave the cup behind, it ain't the cup's fault--styrofoam or otherwise.

  • by the wedding ring, i'm guessing this guy's not from texas.

  • wire bendy-thing

  • Nice Spyderco, what is it, Delica? LadyBug?

  • @hughes7520

    Delica 4 man. GREAT folder!

  • Everything was great but you should carry at least an extra one or 2 sporks they break pretty easily.

  • thanks for the vid. truly ultralight in more ways than most ppl think! :) for the styro cup, put it in ur bag with a bandanna in it, so it doesn't get crushed. or don't drink anything hot. u can use a razor instead of a knife. go barefoot. sleep in a trash bag to stay extra warm. use a trash bag as rain gear, gear protection. ditch toothpaste, deodorant, first aid kits, and just use lavendar oil, and a bandanna. fasting is good too so u don't have to bring food. wear layers, no sleep bag.

  • @takepills lol, are you going backpacking or living on the street?

  • I like to use the Sobe lifewater bottles, they're slightly heavier but alot more durable works great

  • you dont need to fill up a whole bag, just a handfull use coomon sense. Jason isnt saying to fill up a shopping cart with it. Everyone takes a handfull of stuff when they go to wendys. Plus if im paying $5 for a shitty burger im takin whatever I want.

Anyway some stuff that I use is the little 2oz. hand sanitizer bottles when they are done. I put muy alcohol in there for my stove. They have flip tops too so its easy to fill.

  • Dude, the bits you are taking from restaurants are not FREE! Take in a big bag and start filling it up and see if the store management come help you take all that FREE stuff away :) That said, I appreciate the thoughts and effort you put into the rest of the video.

  • Like some of the ideas but you keep using the word 'free', when what you are really saying is 'stolen'. walking into a store and filling your pockets with salt packets is stealing, don't matter if its worth a nickel, it is stealing

    and styrofoam? are you serious?

  • yea but man he never said walk into a store and take it, mostly fast food restaurants, lets say mc donalds you spend a buck on a burger, then when you have to take your normal amount of stuff ex..2 packs of ketchup, your taking more ex 4, same for the other things...soy sauce and others..same thing with the salt and stuff they put like 200 packs of salt in the little bowl things..you actually think they care if you take some extra..??

  • ALSO im not saying take a bag of their stuff. but if you take like 5 packs of salt i dnt think they will mind...but don't exaggerate and fill up a bag with their stuff...

  • Unibrow,

Thanks for bringing it back to reality. People in this country always want to take everything to the extreme to prove their point. Thanks for being level-headed.

  • no problem, just stating the obvious and and another thing i had to mention for the little condiments and stuff, where I'm from , lets say you go to a Drive-Thru and I ask for extra ketchup/salt/utensils, they give me alot more then what I would consider extra..so i don't see the problem..

  • Unless of course you go to KFC. Then they only give you 1 napkin for a 10 piece bucket.

  • @garytheagnostic or mcd's which gives you two sauces for a ten piece and 2 for a 20 piece, when you ask for more they give you one more...everytime i have to explain the math to these geniuses, 2 ten pieces gets 4 sauces, so a 20 piece should get 4 sauces too

  • @unibrow9 if they give it to you it is NOT stealing, if you go inside the store and take them, that is stealing. didnt your mommy teach you the difference when you were like 5? Casino's give away millions of dollars everyday, so if you go into the casino and stick a million dollars in your pocket thats not stealing?

  • @unibrow9 why don't you listen to the video before saying something that everyone can see is a lie? He very clearly said "EVERYTIME I WALK INTO A STARBUCKS OR SOMEPLACE LIKE THAT i GRAB A HANDFUL AND STICK THEM IN MY POCKET". Stealing is stealing is stealing. don't say stealing little things is okay, if you did not pay for it, it is stealing.

  • Good points - thanks for sharing!

  • A few good ideas here but Styrofoam cups will not work in backpacking, they get smashed right off the bat and it's never a good idea take Styrofoam into nature. As for the Aquafina bottle, maybe but they don't screw onto water filters like my Nalgene will. I do like the spork idea. It's a bit smaller than the ones you buy but for free, I'm not going to complain.

  • Won't the cup just crack

  • I agree with most... except the styrofoam cup that would last me some 20-odd seconds.

  • Hay jason , I'm not a ULLt. backpacker but can you use those coffee bags for carring dry goods , mmm like maybe flour or something ? I use a venom drink cans for boiling my water ( almost indestructable ! ) made a bail handle for it and a notched stick to suspend over my fire or just sit in the coals I use my pliers to retreve it

    I have a 16 oz. thermos food jar I drink out of :- )

  • Nice ideas. Thank you! :)

PS. I hate styrofoam... not because it ruins the environment but because it squeaks in a most horrible way. Gives me the chills. Can't stand the stuff. I would outlaw it in a second.

  • thanks tons i like the spork and even the Heineken but not so much the styrofoam and reusing Aquafina bottles... ill spend 10 bucks a piece for safety. but thank you

  • Man your taking some heat over the styrofoam lol All in all the video was great. Exchange that styrofoam cup to a paper coffee cup... your all good. Cheers

  • all i can say is wow!!!! im mean shit im cheap but damn... ill keep my titanium cookwear and leave the styrofoam in where it belongs. ill give ya credit though you made a video.. if you like ultralight check tinny out at minibulldesign he has a lot of videos and some great alcahol stoves

  • Styrofoam blows away in a heart beat.

Not durable, and just a gross substance.

    Worried about weight?

    Easy

    Grow some leg muscles.

    Toughen up.

  • A cheap way to carry fuel for your alcohol stove is to use an empty saline solution bottle or nasal spray bottle. Just wash 'em out really good.

  • Great tips. People get so fixed on just buying everything. Thanks for posting.

  • @ 3:12 is that an insulator wrapped around the heineken, and how did u secure it? also where it was acquired? I am thinking of dropping the aluminum pot holder- MSR.

  • crayzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee but great.

  • Obviously the cup isn't the winner, the plastic leaches chemicals (does a nalgene?) and condement wrappers are the kind of shit that irrisponsible wankers leave all over the country side but, Fantastic advice, creative and well presented.

  • Good vid,the only thing I don't agree with is that plastic spork thing. For the extra .04 or so grams I take the one that won't break or melt.Plus you would play heck trying to dig a hole with the plastic one if you should happen to need a small hole for what ever.

  • Styrofoam cup......you already have a Heineken cooking/drinking pot!!

cut the handle of a wooden spoon, and drill a small hle in the handle....tie it to your pack so you will never loose it. Chinagraph pencil writes on wet paper too!!

Bladder from a wine box holds more water than a bottle....gets lighter as you use it too!!

  • i like the idea that backpacking gear can be found in ur own house, great vid

  • very informative. Thanks. 5 starz.

  • not bad - thanks . . . though not sure about the styro cup, as it is not sturdy enough for camp use . . .

  • for an afternoon picnic perhaps, maybe. For backpacking. No way!!

  • As a former restaurant manager, please don't steal the condiments. That cuts into cost and will eventually make your food prices go up. Don't complain when you have to pay 3.00 for a taco at Taco Bell.

  • haha "make friends with someone who likes heineken"

  • Great video. short sweet and too the point. also nice innovative upside down plastic bowl scale.

  • I've used a beer can stove 3 years and never had an issue with durability. I try to stuff something solid inside while hiking to protect against crushing it. Condiment packs I do as well, honey packs at tea houses are great and olive oil packs when they can be found. Latex gloves for summer hiking provide mosquito protection and can be used for sanitation. I prefer gatorade bottles to the aquafina, it's a nice treat on the first day out.

  • Really like the used coffee bag for trash idea. If I can find a place where the Styrofoam cup won't crush, it'll replace a squishy bowl in my pack. Thanks!
