  • the deadline for the 15th is according to PST time right? I'm trying to get my Vegas to render the project but I think I might upload it a little bit late :(

  • Hey, looks like YT blocked my video (worldwide)....how do you want me to post it? I am uploading it to another server right now.

  • Comment removed

  • I've posted my entry, thanks for extending the deadline girls <3

  • okay.. I absolutely HATE being this person. like HATE HATE, but would it be possible to extend the deadline just by like, a day? I just need a LITTLE bit more time to finish my entry. im so sorry to have to ask this and I totally understand if the answer is no, but I had to ask :)

  • @OurForever22 We've moved the deadline to the 15th.

  • @SoYouThinkYouCanVid oh my gosh thank you SO Much. you guys are amazing.

  • Hey, I'm running a little behind on my video and am going to need all of the time I can get, what time on the 10th are you planning on closing entry submissions?

  • @valamd The deadline is moved to Sunday the 15th.

  • @SoYouThinkYouCanVid You have no idea how much I love you for this! Literally after you posted this, my external hard drive died...so I'm furiously trying to recreate my entire video in the next 3 days! Anyway, thank you for the extension!

  • Posted my entry :D

  • Finished mine! :)

Guys! All of your entries are stunning! Just proves that flashy effects aren't needed to make one awesome video. <3

  • hey uhm just one question .. is it allowed to put a 1-2 textlayers at the beginning ? sth like a title ?

  • @sparksfly221 Yes.

  • Entered my vid. =)

  • is it ok if I have credits in the beginning of the video that just state what's being used in the video? also is it alright if we have a song cut or must we use the whole song? thanks in advance~!

  • @pikashipper4eva Yes, that is fine. You can cut the song. Cutting is allowed! And the credits/titles are allowed as long as they arent in the video's context.

  • Entered! :D

  • I apologize if this has been addressed already, but are credits at the end of the video allowed? I know you said we aren't allowed using text, but are credits even considered part of the video? Thanks in advance!

  • @k9lover27 Credits or titles will be allowed as they aren't part of the video. They are an intro and outro - but not in the context of the video.

  • just as a question, i can't see if my video was accepted as a response or not. idk if it's the new layout or what, but has my video been accepted?

  • @fallingathousandfeet - They have been accepted now.

  • So is it okay if a movie itself has its own effects?

Using a movie that comes with a lots of effects, but i am not using any of my own.

  • @JoiHerusan - That's fine as long as it's the original source.

  • It's possible to have a extended deadline cuz i'm afraid to not posted my video before the 10 January!!

  • @TheJessy34 - We will let you know closer to the deadline date

  • @SoYouThinkYouCanVid Okay thanks :)

  • Comment removed

  • I entered my video as a video response but it said that there are 0 video responses. Is that just a YT glitch or is there somewhere else I need to upload it?

  • @Hanneybean7 - They have been approved now. Please let us know if there is still a problem with you seeing the response.

  • i uploaded the video again with no text, hope it's fine now :)

  • Hey! first of all, thank you so much for letting me through!

secondly, I had a question. I have been reading the comments and all of the questions and I see that fade to black and flash to white (in terms of transitions) ARE allowed. However, instead of using an actual "flash" transition when I DO flash on a clip, I use brightness and contrast with keyframes so it is smoother. is that allowed or do I need to use the basic transition this time? thanks!

  • @OurForever22 - We are only allowing the basic transitions. Using the brightness key frames would be considered adding an effect.

  • Hey !

Is it ok to make a version of the vid with no effects (I'm making it for this contest) and for fun uploading it (i have another account) with some texts and coloring ? You will still accept my no effect one ? Thanks in advance for reply.

  • @HOUSEncismelanie - Yes, as long as the one entered into this contest has no effects there is no problem.

  • Hey you guys, so Tenesha just messaged me and told me that we couldn't add text to our video? when i checked on the site it didn't say that we couldn't, i thought we could as long as we didn't add any special effects or transitions to them? Should I re-upload the video without the text?

  • @Shanice12OTH Hey there sorry for all the confusion about this. We have been pretty busy. We aren't allowing text or any overlays of the sort. If your video uses text as an effect then it's not allowed. You are allowed to change your entry as many times as you need before the deadline so it would be great if we could get a re-upload.We will be updating the site - but sorry hun, we aren't allowing text.

  • @SoYouThinkYouCanVid oh crap :( well, i didn't really use them as an effect really..no special effects on them or anything, no transitions, it's just that since there are voiceovers in the video, it's always better to have written what the characters are saying. but don't worry..i'll re-upload it. :)

  • @Shanice12OTH I know. You can always write it in the description for us. We just want vidders really to be stripped bare with their videos this round. Sorry about that hun. We should have been more clear on the site to avoid this for you. We appreciate that you're being understanding.

  • can't wait to see all the resposes..:)

good luck to everyone in this round <3

  • i video responded my entry a couple of days ago, hope there's nothing wrong with it :)

  • Hola! I have a little question for you lovely judges!

I know we can't exceed 4:00 but my song is exactly 4:00 and I'll have to put the credits at the end, so my video WILL exceed 4 minutes, but is it still fine? I know it's a really dumb question but I just want to make sure! :P

  • @Soniarocksx18 - We won't count the credits as a part of the video.

  • @SoYouThinkYouCanVid Thank you for the answer darlings! I have another little question for you! I'm making a multifandom video and the "format" of all my clips are not the same. Am I allowed to change them so the aspect ratio of the video is adequat and equal for all the different clips? Because it looks absolutely weird if the format changes constantly during the video :/

I hope my question makes sense! Thank youuuu :)

  • @Soniarocksx18 Yes, you are allowed to change the aspect ratio of your clips so they are all uniform in the video.

  • apologies if you've answered this, but are you allowed to use text?

  • @JooFlashx - We are not allowing text.

  • I've posted my entry. Can't wait to see the results.

  • got another question .. are we allowed to pitch the song? cause i'm pretty sure YT will block it .. i guess this is an effect but is this maybe an exception? otherwise it'll be REALLY hard to chose a song!

  • @sparksfly221 We will allow pitch shifiting but if YouTube still blocks the video, you can upload a text video directing us to the video else where. Streaming of course. Like Tumblr, 4shared, etc.

  • @SoYouThinkYouCanVid okay thanks a lot (:

  • Oh crap, i just finished my video and i check the rules once again and see that the video can't be longer than 4 mins :'( it's not allowed to be 5 right? damn it..i used the whole song for once -_-

  • @Shanice12OTH If you already finished the video and it exceeds 4 minutes that's fine. We just don't want videos to be too long. In judging panel however this may lead to a point reduction as it is not following the rules completely.

  • @SoYouThinkYouCanVid i see..well yehh..i finished it :'( but if it's leads to point reduction i better just try to cut it down a bit..but thankyou :)

  • Just to make sure, velocity as an effect(slow to fast effect) isn't allowed, so I'm guessing creating a reversed subclip isn't allowed as well? Just wanted to make sure in case there WAS a chance that it could be used since it hasn't been brought up yet lol!

  • @TheKG2002 We are actually going really strict this year. We will not allow reverse clips as we really want to feel the raw editing of not being able to alter your clips too much.

  • @SoYouThinkYouCanVid Lol! I figured that it would be a stretch, but I thought I should ask in case. The video is finished and I'll be adding it as a video response soon. Another question though, and this is just for the challenges in general, are we allowed to change the video once it has been posted as a response (like if we remove it and the reupload a new version, would it still be accepted) or is it once it is added, it can't be removed?

  • @TheKG2002 Of course. Always better to ask. Video submissions are only final once we've closed the round. So until January 10th, if you end up making 5 videos - that's fine. Just be sure to keep us posted so we know.

  • this is not open for everyone, is it? i mean.. i thought it was (as it was challenge 1) but when i first read the description i thought it might not be. because you mention something about names listed.. so i guess only the ones listed can enter?

  • @Vidiafull it's for the people who got past the other challenges since August till now. :)

  • Wow I just saw i'm one of the finalists :D :D (i was out of town so i couldn't see this video before) I'm really surprised and honored :D Thank you SO much :)

  • I apologise if you have already answered but is changing the velocity of a clip allowed if we only want to make the clip a few frames/a fraction of a second longer? For example if the clip needs to be just a couple frames longer to hit a beat, would that be permissible?

  • @brionyx509 - We aren't allowing velocity. If you need to slow down the entire clip so it stays on longer, that is fine. But we are not allowing it where it is used as an effect. Such as speeding up to hit a beat. We are encouraging the contestants use clip changes and or movement within the original source for your internal movement. Hope that answers your question!

  • @SoYouThinkYouCanVid Yes that answers it! Thank you.

  • I just have a quick question about an effect. I know you are allowing fade to black or white, but are you allowing the use of envelopes (specifically the fade to color one) simply so clips can fade partially to black but not completely? If that doesn't make sense, just PM me. Thanks!

  • @EscapeToFiction - We are allowing envelopes. Feel free to use those transitions.

  • slow motion can be used right? to slow down the clips? cause i will be using a slow song and it won't make much sense if i don't slow the pacing of the clips just a bit. i won't really be using 'the' velocity effect or anything, just a bit of slow motion, cause i'm not going to slow and fast pace the clips all the time. sorry for all the questions. :')

  • @Shanice12OTH - Yes we are allowing minor slow motion. That will be fine :)

  • Thank you so much for passing me to the next round! I saw a lot of the entries, and the people in this competition are so talented! I am honored to be listed among them :) I really love this challenge because as a vidder, it is so hard to not want your video to look fancy, haha! Can't wait to see all the entries!

  • @EscapeToFiction Every vidder wants the fancy, but that's why the challenge is first. We know you guys can do fancy. Show us that you can also do great without the sparkle. Glad to see your enthusiasm!

  • Comment removed

  • Thank you judges! We are honored to be in the finalists! :) Our question (ahaha surprise, surprise!) : We have read the comments below and we're not sure if this was asked before, but are we allowed to use texts overlays ? Or when you said no overlay, it's nay to overlay?

  • @Dakateah - Congratluations, we're glad to see your enthusiasm.

Itt's a nay to text over lays.

  • I'm so glad that I have the chance to continue in this competition.Thank you very much!!!

I have one question though. We're not allowed to use contrast, right? So can we use for example a super bright clip set on screen as a flash?

  • @emmafenty95 - We are encouraging you use the source material for anything like that. We would consider a white flash done with a color curves or altered brightness and contrast an effect. The transitions we are allowing are fade to black, and the basic white flasl. Interlacing the clips is also allowed.

  • uhhh...and i'm thinkin no voiceover either right? :) and also, we can use black/white fades right? or not even that? :)

  • @Shanice12OTH they said we can use voicovers (as long as their's no effects) ... and we can't use any black and white effects

  • @Shanice12OTH - Voiceovers are allowed with out any added effects. Black and white fades for transitioning is allowed. Desaturating the footage to become black and white is not. Good luck!

  • Hello judges! Got a question here. Are we allowed to do alter the velocity, like changing the speed of a clip midway? How about zooming to emphasize a part (not panning)?

  • @jocone123 OK, forget the zooming question. I already read the comments below. HAHA. Sorry. But I;m still curious whether we are allowed to change the speed of the clip midway. Thanks! And goo luck to everyone!

  • @jocone123 - We would consider the velocity as an effect this challenge. We are encouraging your use of internal movement within the original source. Speeding up midway could be considered an effect.

  • O_O

Wow. Thank you so much guys!

  • Hey! Forget my first question, I totally changed my mind!

I have another question though! Would you prefer us using only one fandom in our video or can we use more than one. Of course, it wouldn't affect the storytelling of the video and all! :)

  • @Soniarocksx18 You can use as many fandoms as you want. The challenge is "no effects" so anything else goes.

  • Sorry if I get annoying but I've got another question: are titles allowed?

  • @Nyah86Production - In a sense of an intro yes, but to have titles overlaying the footage no. We only want the original sources used with out any thing addes such as titles.

  • May the odds be ever in your favor vidders! The whole nation is watching!

  • Oh my gosh, thank you so much! I feel so honoured you picked me, next to all these great vidders! Aww! Thanks :)

I have a little question! I have many ideas in mind for this challenge but there's one of my ideas that I'm not sure of, so I'll just ask to make sure hehe!

Can we make a video about a celebrity? Like, a tribute or something! It would be in the form of a music video, using footages of movies, music videos, interviews, etc. It's totally fine if we can't, I just thought I could ask! :)

  • I saw that black dissolve is allowed- is white dissolve allowed, as well?

Btw congrats to all and thanks so much!

  • @Sparralex - We'll allow white dissolve. Not additive but a basic white flash.

  • Thanks so much! Can't believe I made it this far. Congrats to everyone else who made it too!

  • Didn't really expect to get this far so I'm not surprised or disappointed I didn't advance. Congrats to everyone that did! :)

  • Wow, just wow... I made it to the next round! This literally made my day! <3 Thank you so much! And good luck to everybody else that passed ^.^

  • congrats and good luck to all the hopefuls!!!

  • Can we use any song?? black and white, its okay?? thanks in advance :))

  • @TheJessy34 Music is open - we are not allowing any colour changes. So no black and white.

  • Oh, thank you so much again! Best luck to everyone!

  • Thank you so so much!!! I didn't think I'd make it through, I'm so happy!! Good luck to all the other finalists, it's such an honor to be among y'all!! :) One question concerning the next challenge: Is it allowed to use pan/crop?

  • @lumendion you are allowed to pan/crop. Not zoom in.

  • @SoYouThinkYouCanVid Ok, thanks! :)

  • i didn't get through but honestly i'm not entirely guttered- how can i be when there are such much more EPICCC vidders in this contest !!!!! GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE !! all of youse deserve to win :D

  • Oh wow!!! Confidence is growing right now :)) I still can't believe to see my name among some of my favorite vidders. Thank you so much!!!

  • Congrats to all the finalist and thanks to the judges for being thorough! :D I'm so excited about the next challenges!! :D One question...when you say use alternate footage for transitions --in the judges tips---what exactly do you mean? Alternate footage from the same source material or like stock footage? Thanks again! :D

  • @CatAtak12 We are allowing crossfades. So lets say you want to alternate footage say a close up of a kiss, hands etc - use them so you aren't cropping to the point of no return and in a manner that would look like an effect - but actually isn't. Say a blurry tree shot can be used to create a blur/fade transition, which wouldn't be an effect as you used alternate footage/stock footage to create it. Please let me know if I do need to explain that better.

  • @CatAtak12 - also, stock footage such as lights, and random clutter will be considered an effect. Please don't use that as transitions.

  • I have one question, are you allowed to change movie settings to widescreen or should you keep it letter-boxed?

  • @JooFlashx When you mean widescreen/letterbox you mean to fill up the whole 16:9 YT screen with no letterbox correct? Honestly this is up to you. We don't consider this an effect because having the correct aspect ratio is just a crucial part of editing. Either or is fine with us.

  • Thank you SO much for allowing me to pass.

  • aww :( i didn't make it. well. it was still great partecipating. :)

  • Btw, is this the last round?

  • @Lsdivoiletgreen No, we have all the challenges to go through! Please don't be discouraged for not making it through. We can not stress enough that we value every entry, and every vidders technicalities!

  • :( ...didn't make it through, but ohwell, good luck to everyone.

  • Comment removed

  • Good luck everyone, especially K9lover....sorry guys I'm biased :)

  • Huge thank you for letting me through, i can't really believe:o:o:o srsly, with all those names together, im so happy*___* i can't wait to create a purecut finally, last time i made one was 4 years ago:DD

  • @LeighHeni same here-three years ago. :)

  • Awwww thank you sooooo much hun!! im very happy :))

  • HOLY SHIT! Thank you sooo much! Next challenge will be awesome!

  • congrats to everyone who passed! guess I'll see you next year

  • Thank you so much! :D I just have some questions to be on the save side.

Slow-mo or fast forward aren't allowed, right? And what about pan/crop for zooming out tv watermarks or subtitles?

    Thanks in advance :)

  • @SweetLadyBat I was wondering this too... I figured velocity changes and pan-crop WOULD be allowed though. Just because I wouldn't really consider either of them "effects", but idk

  • @Grable424 Thought so, too. On the website they wrote velocity as an effect, but I'm always unsure about what velocity really includes (language XD). I just checked again and found zoom as a "no", though zoom is not crop :P

  • @SweetLadyBat velocity is the green line:D anything which you wished to used that for is not allowed. for zooming i use the pan/crop option, i don't know what other way you know for zooming?:o

but you have a good point, can we use pan/cop to zoom out tv logos/subtitles?

  • @LeighHeni Yes, you use pan/crop for zooming, but the zoom is animated while the cropping itself is not :)

  • @SweetLadyBat To answer your question, pan/cropping is allowed. To get rid of watermarks, tv logos etc. We don't want an animated zoom. We want you to use your footage to its fullest. Although "velocity" isn't technically an effect, we are considering it so for the sake of this challenge. Too often are we finding that whilst editing for fandoms, the velocity is used for timing. We want you to strictly stick your footage and not use velocity to time your clips.

  • @SweetLadyBat We are allowing for you speed up and slow down your clips, but not in escessive amounts. We don't want velocity (speedingup/slowingdown) of clips to be excessive and obvious. Hopefully this answers your question!

  • Thank you so much for letting me through! It's so good to know that all my laptop woes have paid off! :) Congrats to everybody else who got through!

  • awhh yayy i made it through :D so the video can be about a couple right for example?

  • @Shanice12OTH - Yes, a couple as in a relationship study? That's acceptable.

  • Awww.... I iz disapointed... :/ Well grats to everyone who got through i guess..

  • @WickedKiss Please, don't be. We encourage everyone to keep their spirits up. It's a very tough round!

  • yaaaaaaaaay i made it ;D THANK YOU! i'm so happy right now *____*

uuhm still got questions .. uhm u said music video .. i guess that means a normal song with lyrics ? so no instrumental with voiceovers?

and are we allowed to use slow motion ?

  • @sparksfly221 - Instrumental with voiceovers are allowed. Same rule applies to the voiceovers, no effects to the audio bites such as echo, distortion etc. Slowing down of the clips can't be used to the point where it alters the original footage extremely. Please use it subtly.

  • Congrats everyone!

  • So excited to be able to continue in this competition! Though it's not easy, it is much fun and a wonderful way to push and challenge ourselves. Thank you for the opportunity to continue to do that!

  • Let me just freak out for a second here...

    ...not done.

....don't think I ever will be.

Wow. Just wow. So excited, thank you so much!

  • are we allowed to stretch our clips (slow them down) or speed them up?

  • @karofskiggles - Slightly. We are not allowing an excessive amount of that. Use it discreetly, not to the point where it completely alters the original source.

  • So ecstatic to have made it through! Thank you!

I just have one question that I'm still a bit unsure about after reading the guidelines. Are we able to use a simple crossfade effect when transitioning between two clips, or is that not allowed?

  • @k9lover27 - Congratulations. Yes you are allowed to crossfade clips for transitioning!

  • HOLY CRAAAAAAAPPPPP!!!! I'm so pumped that I made it through!!!! Especially with all the incredible vids in the last round.... Thank you so so so much XD

  • Can we use audio/voice-overs in this round, or will that be considered an effect?

  • @Spazzlings - voice overs are allowed but the same rule applies. No effects such as echo, distortion etc.

  • ......I am speechless atm! And very very excited haha! Thank you SO much for passing me through!

  • I made it to the next round! Wohoooooo! *dances around in joy*

I've got some questions considering the rules, though. Can we use basic transitions as dissolve and fade to black? I understand that colourings are not allowed so does this mean we can't use colour curves, change the saturation or brightness of a clip? Can we use black and white?

  • @Nyah86Production - Congrats! Fade to black we will allow, however we are not allowing any color change. So this time black and white, and color curves will not be permitted.

  • thanks so much for letting me through :)

just one question: what types of editing techniques are allowed? Can be use black and white, blurs, coloring? Thanks

  • @gss42x - Those won't be allowed. Check out the "Guidelines" page on the website. You will find information there about what we are looking for

  • I didn't make it, but congratulations to everyone who did, and next year I will absolutely make it into the main competition. No doubt about it.

  • @WinterAffair Keep up the optimism!

  • is coloring included in the "no effects" rule?

  • @karofskiggles - yes, it's included
