  • Honest to God, this is the SHITS! I'm 65 years old now and I'm still BOOKING on my kitchen floor with a slide & glide move than would suck the underwear off your mom and your grandmom. Do you understand? Some of us (Class of '65) grew up with the likes of Major Lance, Curtis Mayfield, the Isley Brothers, Martha & Jimmy Mack and so so so many more great artists from that time. If you loved to dance (and didn't "dis" yourself on the floor!) it didn't matter the color of your skin. Honest.

  • @evanjacoby, That was the "Spirit"jumping in yo' ass..that song came straight outta church..Amen Somebody!!!!!

  • What a great tune.

  • Absolutely True words!

  • this one is dedicated to my dad...billy ray crayton...1948-2009. : )

    he loved this osng. :p

  • Love this song.

  • pls can i have yr number

  • SON-OF-GUN; JUST MADE IT!!! In 1974 "Lookin' For A Love" peaked No. 10 thus just making the Billboard's Top 10 and spent a total of 17 weeks in the Top 100...

Two other versions of this song have charted; The Valentinos reached No. 72 in 1962 {this was the original version and Bobby Womack was a member} and the J. Geils Band took it to No. 39 in 1972...

  • This started out as a church song. Now its a great soul classic.

  • uh, oh....I just busted out with a two step!! LOL

  • Bobby Womack is definitely not Unsung.

  • on most songs he is unfortunately but i love that guy...i myself work in radio in houston (majic 102.1)....i play this song on the radio every now and then. : )

  • Thanks Unsung for reminding me of this great singer

  • Me

  • Whose watching UNSUNG???

  • #1 song for the people , #1 for cool people , #1 for people who got Soul #1 for people who think Jay-Z is an Illuminati Sell Out ... #1 for people who like Ribs and Beer . .....

  • Beats J Giles with a baseball bat

  • Remake of an original Valentinos song...recorded in 63-64...Sam Cooke half wrote it...no wonder Bobby, to this day, will thank Sam before he thanks his parents or God...lol...Sam meant so much to him...means so much to him...

  • Im lookin

  • Im looking for a love, err day

  • Comment removed

  • Valentinos do a version of this that was played by Pork the Tork in da "Burgh

  • Fuck that 'PC' shit...so a woman can talk about how she wants a man to do this for her and do that for her but we can't? PC is often just another way of saying 'be phony'. Bobby is just singing what most men still want.

  • OK, so the lyrics aren't very 'P.C.'... To hell with it - I love this record. Me and my old friend, the great british bluesman Duster Bennett used to listen to this at least twice a day when it was first released in 1974.

And: it's a lesson in relaxed record-making because as Bobby W said, it was recorded as a 'warm-up' track for the rest of the album, but it felt and sounded so good that it became THE track, and a single.

    Thanks for posting this.

    Best wishes from the U.K.

  • Im looking...

  • This is Bobby's '70s remake of his own song from the 60's, with the Valentinos. Even better the second time around!!!

  • Bobby Womack

  • Does anyone know who the guitar player is on this track. Such a great accompanyment.

  • Now this is MY Theme Song...Immmmmmm Looking for a Love! Lookin here and there...maybe i ought to stop looking so hard...lol

  • This recording was, really, the very beginning for Bobby Womack. I had just started my senior year @ Santa Fe High School in Santa Fe Springs, California when I first heard this song (late Fall 1964) on the punkass AM radio in my '57 Chevy that I'd gotten the summer before my senior year started. That was a golden time for R&B music generally with so many great individual singers and groups making music but Womack, Curtis Mayfield and Major Lance were my 3 favorites at that time. Great music!

  • I am not looking for love I let love find me.

  • @gemini527ish I agree with you, I let my love find me.

  • 1 person is NOT looking for a love.

  • For me this is the best Bobby Womack I've ever heard! Amazing!

  • guess he was still looking when he did this song solo

  • Wow...everything just comes together on this song...absolutely soulful.

  • Who here thinks that Macca, on 70's, listened to this song and came up with Silly Love Songs? I think that the bass line is basically the same. At least, Macca was well influenced.

  • I'm lookin' too !!

  • Bobby is doing a remake of his own song that he performed with his family years before.

  • song always makes me think about grandpa

  • This has got to be my favorite version so far, but I swear that Solomon Burk did a cover on this too.?

  • Bobby hit #10 in Billboard, 4-27-74. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx!

  • love bobby womack! thanks soso much for posting!!!!

  • My Dad picked me up one Saturday morning back in 1975.

I asked him to please take me down to the record store so I could buy the new Bobby Womack song. He actually paid for it .. about $1.00 FOR THE "45"

I played it over and over and sung my heart out, dancing around the house like a maniac.

My parents must have really been amused to see a 10 yr old white kid ..crazy about soul music : )
