OK, so the lyrics aren't very 'P.C.'... To hell with it - I love this record. Me and my old friend, the great british bluesman Duster Bennett used to listen to this at least twice a day when it was first released in 1974.

And: it's a lesson in relaxed record-making because as Bobby W said, it was recorded as a 'warm-up' track for the rest of the album, but it felt and sounded so good that it became THE track, and a single.

This recording was, really, the very beginning for Bobby Womack. I had just started my senior year @ Santa Fe High School in Santa Fe Springs, California when I first heard this song (late Fall 1964) on the punkass AM radio in my '57 Chevy that I'd gotten the summer before my senior year started. That was a golden time for R&B music generally with so many great individual singers and groups making music but Womack, Curtis Mayfield and Major Lance were my 3 favorites at that time. Great music!

I asked him to please take me down to the record store so I could buy the new Bobby Womack song. He actually paid for it .. about $1.00 FOR THE "45"

I played it over and over and sung my heart out, dancing around the house like a maniac.
