I always did think the Gradius arcade game level in SNES The Legend Of The Mystical Ninja was a remake. But I also thought the music would be quite similar too. Just like the music in Super Mario Bros games in SNES Super Mario All Stars resembles music in the NES SMB games. In Gradius the boss level music was similar though. Some sound effects are like some in NES Bubble Bobble although Taito made that game, not Konami. Fighting the same identical spacecraft again and again- are you kidding me?!
Damn I love this game. I can get all the way to the very last stage without dying once, but then I die in that last stage...always gets me. I need more practice.
Ikaruga and Gradius have very little in common, aside from the fact that you fly a spaceship in both and blow stuff up. Gradius is a traditional "seminal shooter", whereas Ikaruga is a "danmaku shooter". But you already knew that.... I mean, how couldn't you?
I don't know who's the noob here. I mean, from the speedrun and superplay community, no-miss = no lifes lost. I mean, it's not complicated to just read video descriptions. Sometimes, I wonder what eyes/brains are for. :/
How do u skip a stage? i get frustrated when i die on stage 3 or 4 coz if u die once that's it. it's over. Please how do u skip a stage? sometimes it just does it by itself. thank u
i can do that, way better, probably since i played since i figured out how. at my grandma's, did you know about that sweet cheat for it? gives you all the best stuff (accept lasers) right away. i dont cheat though, first i get a speed up, then lasers, then missles, then those extra things
The title screen of this game was the Japanese version, but it does have the old Konami logo on it. The US release has the same title screen, but it was different with a different Konami logo.
No-Miss always meant "No lives lost." I seriously don't know where you've heard the other significance of it, but from the speed-run and super play community this is the one and only definition of it since the beginning of time!
Also, sorry to trouble you, but I'm sure you're the only one thinking that the video description isn't describing what a "No-Miss run" actually means... I thought it was clear enough though in Part 1. I must be crazy or something...! o_o
Maybe because when hearing the term "no miss," people think literally, "you shoot at things, no miss must be not missing a single enemy" IMO, the definition you supplied, and the one the speedrun and superplay communies adapted really doesn't make sense.
Actually, the term "no-miss" has a Japanese origin. ミス (mis) is an abbreviation for ミステイク (mistake), an English loanword that is commonly used in everyday Japanese, not just for expressing death in video games, but mistakes and screwups in general.
And then the term ノーミス "no-miss", which means not dying or failing in a video game, entered English again through Japanese gaming culture.
So the expression actually has nothing at all to do with "missing a target" or such.
Happy to clarify things. Go ahead and use the definition.
A lot of pseudo-English expressions are used in Japanese, and many of the expressions can be quite far from the established English meaning. And since Japanese people find foreign words tedious to pronounce, they often abbreviate them for their convenience. So while making perfect sense for someone who has a grip on everyday Japanese, terms like "no-miss" will often confuse native English speakers not familiar with Japanese.
OMFG, why I can't pass the third level? I always thought that double beam was better for that level. Very good no-miss run, my respect for your ability.

Is this the Japanese Version? The Konami Logo is the old version before they changed it and it appeared in the English version of the game.

You can't skip stages but if you use the Konami code it makes the game a lot easier.

the code is up up down down left right left right ABAB? thanks
jamraj666 3 years ago

Stage 1: Destroy the 4 hatches when the thousands digit of your score is even. After the boss, you'll warp to 3.
Stage 2: Destroy the boss in less than 2 seconds for a warp to 4.
Stage 3: Destroy at least 10 head statues. You'll head to 5 after the boss.

Nice run, although I have to admit that I was disappointed to learn that "no-miss" meant no-death rather than, well, no-miss!
If you would've called it a "no-death run" it would've been a lot more relevant to what this was actually about.
