  • never get involved in a land war in asia!

  • And to be honest, he was right in all his theories. According to his theories he shouldn't choose the wine in front of him or the wine in front of the other guy. So he should have come to the conclusion that no wine was safe.

  • @DramaMC It might have worked if he Wesley had offered him the opportunity to switch the glasses round himself afterwards so only the Sicilian would know if they'd changed position (he'd turn his back). Otherwise it doesn't make much sense. If u knew where the poison was and ur opponent chose the non-poison, you would be effectively committing suicide. He should of known Wesley was a man of honour, so would not not drink the poisoned cup if he had to. I guess he got sidetracked by Australia :)

  • @thespacialone Actually the poison was in BOTH glasses, Wesley spent the last several years building an immunity.

  • @Martintheauthor I'm assuming the given pretence as presented by the Man in Black. He knew both cups were poisoned (as do we), but he would need to offer Vizzini the chance to switch cups to retain the illusion (assuming Vizzini was half as smart as he thought he was, because of the points of logic I outlined earlier). The rest of the conversation could then follow along largely similar lines, and Vizzini could reveal whether the cups had been switched after they had both drunk.

  • @thespacialone But we DON'T know that both cups are poisoned until after Vizzini is dead and Wesley states that fact to Buttercup.

  • @Martintheauthor Vizzini should have realised the poison was in both cups, for Westley's remaining in honour commands it. Had the Man in Black allowed Vizzini the chance to switch the cups while his back was turned so that only Vizzini would know which was which (so the Man in Black would not be compelled to drink from a poisoned cup), the battle of wits makes some sense. Without that, Vizzini proves that he is a great fool. And you could have worked it out without being told, same as Vizzini.

  • What he should have thought was that no man takes around a poison to create a wager like that unless there's a catch in their advantage. "Never take what the enemy gives you" he should have never taken the wager.

  • Inconcievable!

  • I am not a great fool, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of you. But you must have known I was not a great fool, you would have counted on it, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of me.
