Screw Machida. This Leon Walters uses all Shotokan. He doesn't abandon Shotokan for Muay Thai; that's why I'm rooting for Leon. He might be the first K-1 guy to use 100% shotokan. I pray to God that he comes to the UFC. Machida does Muay Thai which angers me.

I have to disagree with you there Gyromancy. Who say that elbows and knees do not exist in Shotokan? Machida is the only good example of true Shotokan who has been successful on a major level.

I agree with the latter but disagree with the former. You will never see knees or elbows in Kumite Shotokan. It doesn't matter if they exist in Katas. If they don't exist in Kumite then they're not part of Shotokan. And you're right. Lyoto is the only shotokan guy willing to represent Shotokan

"kata is real karate not sport kumite"

and if your wondering, we do teach kumite in our dojo

i have never done a day of muai thai in my life but i can use my elbos and knees as good as any muaithai fighter so please stop talking none sense+ plus we are big supporters of machida and no he does not do muai thai ether he is doing pure shotokan you just dont understand very much of what karate is

Lol, shotokan trains elbows and knees, its just not allowed in kumite tournaments. Kumite Tourneys dont represent what shotokan offers only, they stripped karate into a safe competition, but we still do elbows, and knees, just like we do spearhands, ridgehands etc. And kata was the basics for fundamentals, thats where the strikes come from.

I dont see much Muay Thia in Machidas fighting, and Machida talks peoples head off about shotokan, and how it taught him to be evasive and quick. He still uses shotokan, the occasional spinning round and some boxing combos he throws inside doesnt mean hes abandon shotokan, i can spend minutes pointing out the obvious shotokan in machida. Even belfort is taking up shotokan to ready for mma fights, he just got his blue belt.
