I would join the United States Navy back in the 1940's-50's, but I think that the Navy got a little soft... That's why I'm going to be like my ole dad and become a Marine that way I can still live the lifestyle of a sailor just I'm trained better and more badass...
I was in the Navy and my ship was in Guam of all places (Guam stands for Give Up And Masturbate) at the time when this aired. St. Pat's day, 1979 (Guam was one week behind the US in network broadcast. I must have had the duty... I saw it on TV in my division's lounge area. We just watched in awe with our jaws hanging open... "someone was telling it like it is!" When it ended, we all fell over laughing and woke up everyone trying to sleep for the 0400 watch. LOL!
@4threconmarine You must mean WHEN you flunk out of BUDS. Make sure you have Sub Vol in your pocket before you PT for BUDS or you could be Deck Div'n your entire enlistment. Love to the Trident from a bubblehead. BZ for all you do!
Dan Aykroyd must have been the writer of this one (he's the narrator). Brilliant. Eric Idle even once said in an interview it would have been great if Dan Aykroyd had been in Monty Python.
I chipped a lot of paint, and poured on a lot of red lead. Then I made BMSN and that was the end of the ape work for me. Went from chipping up non skid on a Tuesday to running the cleaning gear locker on Wednesday.
I've finished my 20 year hitch, and this is still my favorite commercial.
Every booter thinks all they're going to do is the exciting 1% of the job, but someone's got to clean up and maintain equipment, and it isn't going to be BM1.
Just think of cranking as an award for being such a hard charger.
@MrMoBidnizz Yeah... I'm an E-4 with 4 years in, heading up training for my department and getting nothing but perfect work evaluations. I'm still expected to field day (clean the shit out of your work space) 4 hours every Friday under an E-5 with half the time in the Navy that I have. Stupid 2% advancement...
@mr357 I think the last time SNL was funny was about 15-20 years ago, during the Hartman/Schneider/Farley/Myers/Carvey/etc. era. But yeah, I agree there hasn't been much worth mentioning since then.
What the hell is that dude doing to the anchor chain. He might think its maintenance, but I'm seeing a clusterfuck.

Funny. They should title this:"This is your future if you flunk out of BUDS," and show it to all the little kiddies that want to be SEALS.

The sad thing is that nowadays they've got civilian contractors doing all that stuff now because they're cheaper than regular sailors.
jarkoer 1 year ago
@jarkoer They are not cheaper it is just that someone can make money off them.
