Anyone who's seen The West Wing -- am I the only one who thinks Sam at the end of this clip sounds exactly like Toby Ziegler? It's the same speech pattern and everything.
Caffey should have questioned the "undetectable poison" claim more.
He should have asked things like "what kind of 'untedectable poison' would junior enlisted men have access too in Cuba?" And "How would two low ranking infantrymen know anything about what poisons are undetectable?"
There's no way in the real world with all of the forensic technology that "there are literally dozens of toxins that are indetectable.." would hold up in court.
I would like to see this movie with an black cast, michael dunkin of green mile fame will be like: jesup, now you know you is a laya, cause I know what the truth is, aight, and don't be saying nothing cause the jury believes me
I love Sam and Jo's differing opinion on what Dawson and Downey did. In a sense they are both right. Jo was right in her admiration of men like Dawson and Downey; they exhibit a great sacrificial bravery to defend people they don't know. But Sam was right cuz in reality, for all that bullshit about honor and unity, all they did was torment and ultimately kill a weaker individual and then they tried to cover it up by saying it was for the greater good. A brilliant scene.
That's not true. They didn't cover it up at all. They immediately called an abulance when they saw things went wrong and confessed to everything. Their defense wasn't that they didn't cause his death, but that they were following what they reasonably thought were lawful orders, since such "code reds" were routinely performed on the base.
@TheStapleGunKid very true, i completely negated that essential fact. yes they did indeed call an ambulance in the hopes of saving Private Santiago's life, but at the same time they did indeed weed out and torment a weaker inidividual solely because they were acting on orders. However, they are obviously innocent of Willie's murder.
is anyone here a lawyer, how da fuck would you know that "strenuously objecting" doesn't work. Maybe it's common legal tactic, maybe sometimes a judge is like: oh, you strenuously object, well then the objection is sustained.
@MustLovePoop 100% serious....I did it in a half joking sort of way..all the young attorney's (Public defenders) knew what it was from, but the attorney I was going against was serious.
there's no evidence that Dr Stone was coerced into saying he was poisoned. I think he was just mistaken; he may have given Santiago a thorough exam, but still missed his coronary condition.
He did very well as Cadet Captain Shawn in "Taps" as well. In here, however, he displays a disrespect for superior officers and soldiers more accomplished than him that galls me. I realize he is a lawyer and not a combat soldier, but he should show the ones who are the proper courtesy.
They should have shown the doctor and Kitrick being arrested at the end.

Article 92 (dereliction of duty) for not med boarding Santiago.
Article 119 (manslaughter) due to above dereliction of duty
Article 131 (perjury)

Are you still trying to object after all this time? That's the worst thing I've ever heard. How marvelous.
