Also the Star War creators probably changed the characterization a bit to make it to make it entertaining for an audience, i mean as much as badass as the doctor is we dont want to pay 11 dollars at theater to see a two hour movie ending with someone talk their enemy in submission, seeing it on tv is different on the big screen.

Think about out it a couple of guys saving the universe with green glowing sticks who fight for peace, and the doctor also happens to have a glowing stick, the Doctor probably met the creators of Star Wars and save the universe with them using his sonic screwdriver. The creators then decided to create a movie franchise in his honor
