  • I always felt the same way about eminem....not to make it a racial thing, but Em has said how hard it was to make it as a white rapper, so then when he made it, why the fuck he cant reach back and help another rapper realize his dreams. The game is fucked up....erybody scared to get shown up and they sign wack shit to avoid givin up their spots....

  • Biggie was popular back in the '90s, and wouldn't get signed if he started today: because fifteen years ago, the music market wasn't controlled by 13 year olds and their mobile phones.

Diddy and Simmonds go for what makes them money, and these days what makes money is anything which you can brand. They have no reason to make new brands because it's more effort.

  • Sean man, talk to me! Are you still alive! This is Siki btw :P

  • But the guard in 94 didnt give Puff a chance. Bad Boy, Rocafella and WU created there own lane and the industry moved to them. We still waiting on the the new "Dudes" No one supposed to let the Jay in. He supposed to take it. Its not supposed to be given.

  • On the real, all these crap niggas know the deal, well said

  • OH shit its dame dash and stretch...

  • Damn. He just kept it 100.

I don't know how anyone can frown on what Skillz and his dudes are saying.

The way I see it, "someone" is going to come through and do some damned music and blow all this weak shit up out of the water. These 1/2 2/4 4/4 Ghetto Space Noise tracks and drowsy lyrics CANNOT last, it's just too weak.

"Something" always happens whether the people on the top have anything to do with it or not.

    One

  • i feel this dude, but has he seen makin the band? and hes always bringin up artist. but he an asshole for reals.

  • the truth...but everybody still supports the industries..buyin cds and goin to concerst and shit...shit ull catch me dead before u see me in the store buying a fuckin cd ...fuck the industry...thats why dudes like boon doc dnt have a deal ....thats y cats like mf doom make less money and have a smaller fan base than guys like jim jones...so sad...

  • yo see this is why i fucks with skillz man.. seriously this is the realest thing ive heard in regards to the music industry in a really long time!!!

  • thank you 4 surpporting that...........4 real.

  • 08 wrap up is tight.09 has to have the elephant with wings saying the sky is falling in it.

  • yo, that's W. Grace St.!!!!

Skillz was working on VCU campus, when i was going there. I was proud as hell of RVA, when I went to Scotland, in 2002, and they were rocking him there, EVERYNIGHT!!

  • I think the emphasis is on artists that are executives with the power to put people on right then and there, but I feel ya VAPete

  • man i fuck wit skillz .. .but this nigga doing the same thing in VA... him and Lonnie still holding the crown for VA and thats cool.... but... them niggas dont fuck wit nobody. its young niggas wit mad talent here.. but they aint helping nobody... DONT GET IT TWISTED THO... SKILLZ IS MY DUDE... NO DISRESPECT

  • yeah you right....he don't fuck with nobody....i thank it's cuz it's so stupid with all the street non-sense he feel like that.also he don't do what he surpose 2 do here.... i still like his flow.he can can give you all flavors of rap and hip hop.

  • This is real...i mean, Jay & Puff been in FOREVER. They been doing it TOO long. They wont bring nobody up because they egos are too big. Everybody know puff a ass! And i've heard about jay ego...its like, they hella rich!! when do you fallback? lol. fame is a mutha.....

  • This just shows how record label heads don't have a vision, or share the same vision of a talented/aspiring artist. There's alotta selfish shit goin' on in the music game right about now. However Jay, Diddy and Lyor will never have legendary record executive status like Clive Davis(founder of Arista/J), Ahmed Ertegun(founder of Atlantic records), nor Herb Albert and Jerry Moss(founders of A&M records). That's why artists must do this music shit on their own and prove these industry types wrong.

  • none of these cats want nobody to be bigger than them...They all rich as hell and want to be "kingz". Puff so damn aarogant its crazy! When he drop, its HELLA promotion, when others on his label drop, it dont be nothing. It was diff. when big, mase, lox and all them was there. But, even with Jay, he aint letting nobody get in and get bigger. Its all EGOS. Dr.Dre dont EVER drop any new artists. These cats is caked up and like, 50 years old! what the hell! let some others come up!

  • thats real diddy bout to da another album for what? nigga did swagga like puff and im like you dont even write.. puff can sign a nigga but he wont because he wants to be the star like birdman and cash money cuz ran everbody off niggas selfish..

  • Today, there is more than enough room for the next Diddy or RS or SouljaBoy.

The traditional dynamics of the game STILL EXIST however the infrastructure, resources being used, biz models and the people still working the traditional game are quickly fading and being replacedby new systems, new people, and new biz models that compliment and enhance the experience that the NEW INDUSTRY presents.

This YouTube video is a great example of how the NEW INDUSTRY operates and spreads to the world.

  • richmond is doing things. Check out trailer twoplates. the south will rise out of the hood.

  • Skillz holdin church on the porch. Puff said it,"Ain't enough lime here for YOU to shine here." That nigga is not sharing, point blank. Now someone might be able to appeal to his inner altruism, but not without running your ass over to Juniors and getting him some cheesecake on national television. Maybe some of the blame has to be put on reality tv. Does Puff really care about the music or finding another Puff, as long as MTV keeps asking his ass back to do shows? Legacy be damned.Pay me Nucca!

  • As much as I respect Skillz as an artist, he is NO businuess man if he was, then he'd be finidng the next everything. Opinions are like...well you know the cliche. I just think that rather than complaining, he needs to go find the solution to this 'problem'. Personally I think the only issue here is people ain't got the drive like a '93 Puff did. I heard he used to travel from D.C. to NY working for Andre while attending Howard Univ. Cats just need to work harder and stop complaining...2 cents

  • This kid is doing business. Have of ever heard of joint ventures. Come on man. We have to do better. Everyone has a opinion.Hey I don't know dud so I WON'T TRY TO TAKE UP FOR HIM HE DON'T NEED ME . MY LOVE IS FOR RICHMOND VA. I'M TO OLD TO START RAPPING

  • Oh yea be strong slim God be with you

  • ...aight bet.

  • Skillz My neezy i love this topic. I just want you to understand Nobody would never take a chance because it can cost these overnight A&R's thier jobs. Example: Jim Jones droppin albums before Max B. Jay-Z droppin albums before Buddens,Redman,Method Man ETC. If these albums flop Jay Z looks bad for losing the houses money not the artist. So being a bussiness man Jay-z promote Rihanna cause she pop and can move a few units. He solidifies this by doing theUmbrella single to esure burn on the radio.

  • yeah thats true hov got all them niggas but who really got money wit hov....he used them SP niggas where the fuck bleek at? why peedi aint neva drop niggas just hate to see another nigga shining

  • the only reason you know about any of those cats is because they were affiliated with jay/rocafella. jay didn't owe those cats shit. how did he "use" sp? what did he get outta dealing with them? bleek? bleek has put out 4-5 albums. peedi? who the fuck is he? when hasnt he dropped since he left rocafella? is it because he's just not that good? get off that hating shit bruh, its weak.

  • @thatnickuh. please fall back.

Noone is saying he "owes" them anything. simply saying that why be so greedy and only put yaself on? help other niggas out. like what he said, soulja boy, 50 cent. they all putting niggas on. all these other cats, not puttin noone else on. they just drop albums for theyself or put out what they THINK is good and in the end noone is feelin that shit but THEM. and jay is so full of himself now he's pratically a diva. name the last person jay put out besides kanye.

  • word.

Think about all the people back in the early to late 90s who put cats on. they actually went out lookin for talent then, but big was brought to puff. and like skillz said the guy who told puff about big can't even get to puff now. people are so full of themselves, and what the spotlight on them that they haven't even went out looking for other artists and its so fucked up. i think ppl get annoyed/tired of seeing the same niggas, we need some new real hip-hop faces.

  • paemoney, u cant compare 08 puff 2 93 puff. 08 puff is a fucking mogul whos doing a million and 1 things. 93 puff was a hungry up and comer tryna make his way in the game. where are all the 08 versions of 93 puff? those are the type of ppl that are supposed to be out here discovering all the new talent. shit is common sense but ppl are so bent on crying, complaining, and whining about ppl who are successful that they arent using it. "the game is fuked up and its all jay and puff's fault". please

  • yea man..its sad these days, people trying to hard to out shine each other! people who are talented need to just stop complaining get off their asses and grind and show what music is!

  • nah bruh, you fall back. what, you cant read? i just named several ppl that jay has put on since he's been in the game. beans, freeway, kanye, just blaze, ect. all got on thru jay. beans has released several quality albums, freeway has released 2 quality albums, kanye 3 quality albums, sp's 1st joint was quality. just blaze is 1 of the best producers in hiphop. jay may be a "diva", i dont know dude. but dont act like he hasnt put ppl on in his career. fuck has 50 or souljaboy "put on" thats ill?

  • Well, jay put on bleek basically. dame put on ALL them other people you named. 50 Cent put on people, thats what matters. Soulja boy is terrible, we all know, but, at least he putting people on. The other ones, jay-z, puff, etc, they talented but, they aarogant as hell & they dont want nobody to outshine them. I love all the big dogs but, cats is like, 40 something, late 30's always talking bout, "yeah, my 10th album....i feel like im young again.....". they greedy. the fame is poison.

  • I ain't gonna lie...I don't like Soulja Boy musically but look at that kid man, he gettin money...and he lookin out for niggas, as well as puttin them on man...i give respect to that!

  • well since when is making art based on money? since never. i see what you're saying but i disagree cause hes just trying to make money by being stupid and coming up with some catchy song that gets dull-minded people dancing and shit. thats not art! thats not hip hop!

  • Well Soulja did alright for a kid but hes not and I dont see him ever being at level of Jay or someone along those lines. 50 and Kanye r only guys who r building for themselves. What skills said is true u cant be embrassing you workers with cheesecake and all that. On another note vote these guys today need to know you can keep true, still be yourself, and sell records to the general public. Thats what Big or Nas did

  • yea that still pisses me off, no Oschino & Sparks, no Beans, hardly any Free, No Peedi or Bleek...those are my dudes! Where the fuck they at man??

  • Real talk!

  • why only diss jay-z & puff? why not go at the real executives? they the ones who black ball people in this business....jay & puff are just scape ghosts for them....

  • Hip-Hop is not what it use to be. Its to many regular niggas off the street jus rappin for the fuck off it wit no goals to make good music. They jus want a quick $10,000.

  • Very true...

  • too much ego involved at the top everybody

wanna be a boss. nobody wanna see artist

evolve cause its jealousy if you hotter than the dude

that put you on you a threat.

  • when is joell ortiz gonna get some burn?

  • When Hip hop dies and starts back over.

  • wowowowowowow real hip hop head talk skillz layed it down lol i believe theres another diddy or jay out there but THE QUESTION IS WOULD A TODAYS JAYZ OR BIGGIE SALE ? CUZ THATS ALL THEY CARE ABOUT.

LOOK AT JOE BUDDEN HE IS THE NEXT JAYZ

  • watch?v=1UEOZGFzPas

  • skillz is hating here, and really he's not making much sense. he's going in a lot of different directions in this rant, but i just think that his frustrations are misdirected. ness not blowing up isnt because he walked to bk to get some cheesecake. dude isnt blowing up because he's just like a million and 1 other east coast mcs. we saw pac on stage in a thong doing the humpty dance before he blew up. we saw jay in the hawaiian sophie video. i dont really agree with anything skillz was saying.

  • you talk about jay-z and puff hustling to get where they at and that true but with out the shot that those guys that were in the industry, they would be as famous as they were now. and you really can't say that the newer generation sux before really they don't but the majority of new gen rapper that are out now are only out to sell one record and many million on ring tone. there are many rapper out that are nice who are way better than nas, jay-z, definetly diddy but you will never see them.

  • skillz is indirectly disrespecting puff and jay by acting liek they had shit given to them or only got on because some1 else went out of their way to just give them a shot. those cats grinded their asses off and made shit happen for themselves. jay was being shitted on by the industry. he had to get together with a team and start his own shit to get things popping. puff started as an intern and grinded his ass off to get where he is. those cats werent "given" shit, they went out here and got it.

  • With all due respect, the talent pool hasn't changed, music is just different, so what are you disagreeing with? His point is the Puff's and Jay's, based on their actions won't discover the next Puff's and Jay's, unlike the Harrells and Clive Davis's of the music business. Damon Dash 'put on' the artists you mentioned. Skillz is not hating, unless you call pointing out the obvious, hating. No disrespect here...

  • no dis to you either, but i dont agree. i understand the point that skillz was tryna make, i just think that it's bs. if puff met a emcee the caliber of big today, then i most definitely think that he'd put him on. to think otherwise is silly. puff has been looking for the next big ever since he passed, why do you think that he got in that bidding war to sign shyne? there is no next big, jay, or nas out here. if there was we would all know about them.

  • naaa hoomie there out i know it for a fact lol you crazy if you dont think theres another diddy or jay out there now if they could sale or not who knows but there out there

  • all you can do is put ppl in a position to succeed, you can't do everything for them. if the next big or jay was out here somewhere then we'd all know about him/them. they talked about cats like soulja boy and he's a perfect example of what i'm talking about. this the information/technology age. you can put yourself on now. with the internet, you can make shit happen yourself instead of waiting for a jay or puff to discover you.

  • 50 the only dude that looks out for his niggas and helps out rappers in general, but he is still the most hated.

  • this is "real" alright, real bullshit. i don't agree with none of the shit that skillz was saying here. there hasnt been a "changing of the guard" simply because the new generation sucks for the most part. there is no next big, jay or nas in ny or anywhere else out here. the talent pool is shallow as fuck right now, and thats not jay or puff's fault. jay has put ppl on. he put beans on, he put freeway on, he put just blaze and kanye on, he cosigned lupe, and i could go on.

  • you really think there are no talented rappers anymore? They are plenty of them, but they just no gettin put on because talent doesn't sell anymore. Niggas like Puff and Jay have the power to put that talent on, but they won't do it. I maybe wrong, but I don't think them niggas want anyone to be more successful than they are. They don't want anyone else wearing the crown

  • neqquah, youre contradicting yourself. 1st you say that there are talented rappers out here but they arent being put on because talent doesnt sell. then you turn around and say that puff and jay wont put any1 with talent on because they dont want any1 to be more successful than they are. the idea that its only up to jay and puff to put usher in the new gen is silly to me. the idea that the only way for a talented young mc 2 get put on is to be given a shot by puff or jay is even more silly 2 me

  • Keep in mind folks A&R's and record companies influence who and what makes it "big" more than the consumer does, and if you do your research (Century of Self) influence consumers themselves. Skillz (nor am I) isn't dissing' Puff or Jay, he's pointing out that they represent the modern day status quo, meaning, those who have the ability to put out quality Hip Hop with meaning, great production, substance, and entertaining at the same time (Mickey Factz) but have not exercised that power...

  • Not true...and look how long it took for them niggas to shine.

Also, hov didn't do that, DAME DID.

Hov is a hater, we all know that...he signs niggas, takes some of their style qualities, and then leaves them to dry while using their flow to make hits.

  • all that "dame did everything at rocafella, not jay" bullshit has been exposed. dame didn't discover beans(who brought a whole team from philly with him), dame didn't rap over kanye's and just blaze's beats. the rocafella empire wasnt built on dame's talent, it was built on jay's talent. therefore everybody that got put on thru rocafella owed that shit to jay more than anybody else. all this hating shit is gay, grown men crying, bitching and moaning about the next man is gay.

  • jay aint discover beans him and phillys most wanted came to rap for jay but jay aint go find anybody beans brought free, free pulled peedi to the roc oschino was fucking wit double r but they wasnt feeling sparks chris and neef came there on they on and peep this dame signed kanye and jay wasnt evening feeling him now who the only nigga he fuck wit a the roc? betta yet kanye is the only nigga signed to the roc...death of a dynasty

  • you cant make the next Jay-z,diddy yes. jay started as a rapper and then other ventures. lets say Lupe starts a clothing line its highly successful and leads to other businesses Jay is not needed for that but u can sign and make people like diddy.

  • where in VA was this filmed

  • Definitely Richmond, you can see the GRTC bus roll past

  • Who is he sayin ushered Kanye into the game? Dame?

  • yea Dame put him on and said Kanye wouldn't blow up...look at Kanye now...lol.

  • watch?v=1UEOZGFzPas

  • Sounds like 50 Cent speaking off camera a few times in the video.

  • DAMN Skillz... that's about the realest shit I heard in a while!

  • i agree my dude!

  • 100% truth....but who knows with the industry aint about hip hop no more. Its about money and lables puttin on artists that will get them paid...as for findin the next diddy or hov nahhhhhhh you know damn well if some one better than you. You is not puttin them on jus how some ego's work. i look at it like why not? you already rich

  • this is actually some real stuff. There isn't one real Hip Hop record label anymore. Def Jam's priorities are Ne-Yo and Rihanna, Bad Boy's priorities are that stupid chick group, and those R&B dudes, so what else do you have??? Everybodies got a label, but none of these labels promote hip hop artists in a cohesive unified fashion. all i can say is the game done changed

  • watch?v=1UEOZGFzPas

  • I thought he wasnt Madd no more?

    good vid.

  • Kanye came in the game arrogant and cocky as hell after awhile people started listening not to mention how long he was putting in work. T.I. came in the game claiming he the King of the South. Rick Ross came in the game claiming he the Boss Mi-Ya-Yo and shit like that big time hustler image. The same for Jeezy Snowman this Mr. 17.5 a key. Lil Wayne proclaims himself the best rapper alive he put in time, you gotta make a name for yaself! Then thats when you get a campaign behind you!!!

  • I feel what he is sayin but at the same time those cats from Making the Band know what it is, they know what they are walking into when they fuck wit Diddy not to mention Diddy did sign Boyz in da Hood with Young Jeezy remember? Jay-Z has really put on people Young Jeezy had a solo contract with Def Jam. Jay put all of Rocafella on, he put Rick Ross on. The thing is Diddy isn't talent Diddy is a business man, Jay is both, if you want the crown you gotta go for it. No one can get close to him.

  • i don't listen to his music but he makes a good point because how can you find the next big, pac, jayz, nas if you don't give them a shot thats real i guess the up and comming artist have to work extra hard to get in.

  • @ all these cats who think you can just do everything by yourself...remain by yourselves. You can pump your ego to think you can "go out and get" anything, but you know there has to be someone out there to give you the good look. You can't give yourself the good look, you fools.

  • 1st of bbp215 need not to disrespect Skillz. This video is the realest shit I heard from a rapper in a while. Jay-z and diddy will never find the next in line, because they rather tell you who they want to be sweet, and promote they faggot niggas. When the real talent is on the streets trying to prove himself, and locals don't veiw them as stars yet. So they gotta work 3 times harder then the average mainstream rapper.Much respect 2 Skillz, I see you Richtown Peace

  • Alright Richmond va is set to go, alot of talent is rising. Check out Siyani she is smooth with that cadillac joint.

  • I say that shit all the time bout Puff sonnin his artist. Can respect a artist lives on their knees. But as far as being the "next BIG" or whoeva , the game is different now-a-days. Every body wants to be a rapper and no one wants to be a fan. I don't bout Puff but I know Jay will let you rot if you don't have your own movement. He only moves if your talent can conjure enough attention. With sales as low as they are today. I cant really be mad at that. You gotta take that shit, FUCK askin

  • skillz is dead on, hip hop needs change to survive, all we have now are pure coons running things.

  • this is every day corner talk why someone tripping about what he is saying :(

  • Why are people discrediting what he's saying especially what he's saying about Diddy? It's true. Who was the last person Diddy brought in the game that made some noise? That's right, it was Black Rob. His album was amazing and where is he now? Look at all the great Bad Boy artists that vanished: Total, 112, Carl Thomas- Biggie is probably rolling over in his grave. I understand times change but DAMN-don't kill the past without bringing in the future.

  • You have to change the FANS, that they already brainwashed, before you bring the talent in.

    Great opinions expressed here.

  • ol superstar azz nucckers saying thing to make other look smaller. richmond va is on now richmond va is the new star on block now nucckers.

  • richmond va will rise haters and richmond va is going to ride with skillz. when the real story is told yea you will know. richmond va is relevent and so is slim. richmond va is the birth place of the black nation. from jamestown to richmond show some respect.

  • This is fucking stupid. If you wantsomething...go out and get it..Why does someone have to give you a chance. Typical BS thatthese "grown men" or lack thre of saturate the streets with...this dude is not speaking one word of knowledge. he'san idiot and so are the ones who tnk whathe's saying is "real" Grow the fuck up skillz

  • why does skillz even have an opinion...he's irrelevant.

  • hey slim you have the momentum now the the richmond va story. a documentary about the rap business $10.00 a pop. and did i hear you guys do throw them bows two years before luda brought it out. richmond has a great history it has a story you can tell it in put richmond on slim. yea iheard throw the bow on 2nd burn st

  • THAT'S REAL TALK!

  • Skillz RIGHT!!! HE on the Money

  • This shit is real talk. Word up at the shit about Day26 too, that was mad fucked up.

  • word.

  • Skillz is telling the truth. These cats need to make room for the next round of producers, emcees and artist.
