I like the knife takeaway part (once you've secured the hand holding it), but doesn't the way you grab his hand after he lunges open you up to a punch to the face (when you've got his hand secured to your chest)?
@ErikPaulsonFan obviously yes but u have more control, and the instructor said it's transitional, so every move u make there is options, u have to apply what u know to the appropriate situation. and besides ur not gonna stand there holding the dudes hand, see how he moves fluently at the end taking the assailant off balance before locking up the wrist and easily disarming the attacker. done properly u should give no chance for the attacker to punch u in the face
This is one of the more realistic knife defense techniques I've seen. Not surprising it's the Sambo way. I've seen Aikido knife disarms that look like some kind of comedic video.
I would like to start training this. I'm a black belt in Tai Kwan Do an competent in Muy Thai, though those focus mainly on fighting from arm or legs lenght.
Sambo is like a less sport-oriented Judo integrated with striking plus older russian military combatives. Boxing would have a hard time vs just judo. No sambo fighter is going to be afraid of a boxer, provided they both have the same amount of hours training.
I was going to leave it alone, but I will say this for your own good. The reason I don't have to argue with you is the same reason I can be smart and get away from a dangerous situation: I have nothing to prove. I've been tested. I've won my share of fights. I've been bloodied up and busted up enough to know what I'm made of. You, on the other hand, are a young upstart trying to make a name for yourself in the world. I'm a man and you're boy. That's the difference between us.
There are times when it's worth taking the risk: 1) if your back is against the wall, and you have no other option, and 2) to protect someone else. But based on what you said, you would fight a guy who had a deadly weapon because if you didn't, you're afraid people would laugh at you. Peer pressure is no reason to engage in deadly combat, you dumb kid! Why don't you be your own man? Who cares what people think? Not caring what people think is the very definition of "cool."
So say whatever you want. I'm through with you. With your attitude you'll either die young trying to impress people, or you'll grow up and realize I'm right.
ok dude, clearly i've bothered u enough to write these 3 comments, each being pretty substancial in size. I was only playin wit u, but it seems that i sed it on ur time of the month...... if u were a "man" you would't have even replied in the 1st place. Also i never sed i would be afraid sum1 would laugh. LMFAO "cool" what a joke.......
When a guy pulled a knife on me and demanded money a few years ago I shouted an expletive to get the attention of bystanders and sprinted away as fast as I could to a well-lit area. Certainly, physical retaliation would have been satisfying on some level, but I hadn't had much knife defense training (but even if I had, I probably still would have run away). In any case, he didn't get my money, and he ended up going to prison over it.
Don't get me wrong--to take the guy's knife away and beat his ass Steven Seagal-style while delivering some tough guy line would have been a glorious moment that would have replayed in my head for all eternity. But in terms of pain, I think the guy suffered a lot more for my running away and calling the cops than if I'd neutralized him like the badass in this video. What's worse, an ass whooping or a year in prison (which could involve multiple ass whoopings)? I almost feel bad for the guy.
No, I think a guy who pulls a knife on someone is a bitch. And even if I am a bitch, at least I'm not a bitch who has Digimon episodes in my favorited Youtube videos like you. Maybe you'll be cool when you get out of middle school, but probably not.
no ur a bitch for screaming and running away, like a lil bitch instead of kickin his ass. Try that screaming crap where im from and every1 will laugh at u and watch. FYI dude im in high school 11th grade..... Mayb you'll be cool when u stop bein a bitch....... but probably not.
Good technique. All we can do is train. then you find out what you find out when someone trys to stab you. Breaking the wrist and arm, as well as kneeling on his head is a great idea. Most of all try to avoid this situation.
I use to work at a prison as an officer & S.R.T member & the typical "shank attack" I witnessed was more like a pumping or jack hammer like attack aimed for the chest, kidneys, & lower torso.

Sure it looks more complicated. Then again, systema knife defenses don't work. I mean, most knife defenses don't work, but when you're using systema knife defenses, you're assisting your attacker in killing you.
This reply would be funnier if it weren't $#%^ing true.
Sveral guys state that Sistyema is a fake system. If you study their story, you can easely realize it.
I hope that any day a Systema fighter tell me who was the master and great-master of Col. Ryabko, Stalin guards(as they say)? Who were these guards? Who was the master of the guards? Ilya Muromets? A. Nevsky?
"In a knife fight, the attacker is more dynamic, keeping distance is the key to survival."
I agree 100% with this. But, sometimes you don't have a choice. Working slowly with a live blade is just a small way of becoming more comfortable with a knife. This technique is obviously risky and a last chance type of thing. If someone pulls a knife, you should run, get something like a car between you and the attacker, pick up a weapon, but of course avoiding interaction is the best option.
I dont recommend doing with he does. First of all he jumps back like an idiot, dont do that, and if someone wants to stab you, you break their arm, if necessary. I just wouldnt do it liek that if i were you. IF you want to learn sambo take the classes, not watch youtube videos for help
I do agree that people can't learn via video and people should train in an actual class. This way, things won't be taken out of context...like this video.
Truthfully, I originally saw this vid on my laptop while sitting at a coffee shop. I must have caught the X block first! I also had the volume down! My apologies.
you could also do an arm bar by grabbing his wrist with your right hand (in this case; you grab the attacker's wrist with the corresponding hand [i.e. you grab his right wrist with your rig ht hand]) and put your left hand slightly above his elbow and push downwards while taking your right hand and twisting right like twisting a dial, forcing him to the ground in fear of losing his wrist, and dropping the knife at the same time.
What are you talking about? Most of the moves are the same with subtle variation. Krav is going to emphasize standup and sambo will emphasize grappling. That's just about the only difference with regards to weapon defense.
nice takedown, not convinced about the stand-up portion though, that doesn't seem like a move you'd be able to do fast enough. He has to move his whole body to counter the stab, a stab can be done lightning fast by even a rank amateur using only the arm, it doesn't need power like a punch, just speed
Great but umm, why waste time deflecting so far away from your body? It's usually quicker and safer to just deflect at the body right away, like you said - controlling from a distance is weak. Also, the guy probably won't stand there and let you do all that stuff to his arm, you might want to give him a tenderizing shot in the liver or something before you start doing wrist-throws. Cool stuff !
In fma we call that a two on one position. Try a pendulum parry to enter to that position. It's easier and more fluid. Nice vid.
