I understand perfectly how humor saves us from despair. I was kneeling in front of a friend's casket, saying a prayer and weeping, when my brother walked up beside me and started telling me a story about a funny answering machine message this friend left him once. I started laughing at the story which kind of short circuited the grief. I said, "I'm laughing and crying at the same time." My brother said, "That's what life is like sometimes." I'll forever be grateful to him for that moment...
I love how Craig invites you into his life and feelings so very much. Why do we even have the other late night shows? His is the only one that has any value.
@donovansexton Exactly. The other shows just act like their conduits for celebrities to advertise their crap, or for the hosts to make jokes that seem unnatural (which they are, having been written and vetted and such). Craig's feels very organic and natural for the reason you pointed out.
Aww, the story about his dad's funeral was sweet! :') my grandfather passed away a few years ago, and the morning of the funeral, my brother accidentally locked us all out of our hotel room. It wasn't that funny at the time, but we all agreed later that Grandpa would have been chuckling to himself and saying "That's my grandson, alright!" :)
@flyoverjovin I guess our opinions are derived from experience? I lived in Ramallah (West Bank) for 15 months, and being a Christian wasn't really helping much. I could barely even stand the Christians there, either. Everyone is bigoted, very disorganised, dirty, obnoxious, etc... and they're not much different outside of the Middle East. There are obviously exceptions, though, and I have a good few friends who are just that and from both dominant religious groups.
@rhinnawi95 absolutely opinions should be based on experiences but there is one important lesson in life that I learned a while back and that is to not generalize cause our experiences are very limited and cannot cover a whole society ..but I understand where you coming from and I real empathize with you :-)
Even people from other backgrounds can suck too but we are all humans and that is our nature, the key for me is to change my attitude and myself to adjust to the world ... :) :) :) <3
@flyoverjovin Well yeah, I noticed that, too, but I can't help but respect how tolerant you seem to be. It's quite extraordinary, actually. You've really gotten me thinking. Thanks for that.
@rhinnawi95 well, thanks and am glad that you benefited from our conversation here , remember this all started by me commenting on the farty thingy :P
That story of his fathers funeral reminded me of my grandads funeral;it was after the wake,my parents, sister, uncle, gran&myself were entering my grandparents house. My dad was the last one through the door, the rest of us taking of our coats&as he started to go through the door it bounced back smacking him straight in the face&he stumbled back.We all started laughing so hard&even tho they felt guilty for laughing they knew my grandad would have found it amusing to
@flueedo why would it be weird ? although english language contains a lot of french words both languages are very different and it's difficult for everyone to learn complete new sounds from scratch. americans have the same problems with the french 'r'
@luikangMC in my opinion it's not a difficult phoneme to learn, all one has to do is put their tongue between their teeth, so to speak. One doesn't even need to learn how to use a bunch of muscles in different ways, such as when learning the french 'r', which in turn make sense to me being quite hard to learn to Americans.
@flueedo A lot of non-English speakers have a problem with "th". Germans for example can't say it. They make a "s" sound instead. But they also can't pronounce "r" right.
kristen was so touched by that last line that she made a huge sigh at 6:00. takes a spoonful and probably saying to herself, "why does he have to be married". ...
As a struggling stand-up comic, if anyone ever asks me why I think laughter is important, I'll just tell them: "Laughter is what separates us from despair, and gives us a chance at love." Of course crediting Craig.
