  • @briansmobile1 I don't watch any major news channels. I get my news first hand. Before I was alive, presidents for what ever reason (usually to help defeat a common enemy) have shared our secrets. Pres.Reagan one of my personal fav did with Russia. We taught and armed Osama to overthrow the last oppressive regime & now Syria is in turmoil & Iran/China are a problem. I understand f-policy well enough. After watching this last debate I like Ron Paul more than I thought I did. We agree on something

  • @miniweener Cool. Britain shared radar with us and we had it up and running in Hawaii just before Pearl Harbor was attacked.

  • I HATE BROKEN OFF BOLTS. I HATE BROKEN OFF BOLTS. HAHAHA

  • RON PAUL 2012!

  • Hate them too.

  • Jesus Christ man, stop yr fuckin whinging and MAN UP TO THE GODDAM BROKEN BOLT!! You can do it, you can beat it, it's not bigger than you!! ;-)

  • @BoldUniverse Ok. I will do it! I will beat that bolt! It's not that big... yeah! YEAH!!!!

  • Brian is my mentor.

  • Good tip, but one should avoid welding if you are doing carpentry and cabinet work.

  • farmers arent the only ones outstanding in their field! Lol

  • @flankdrive45 lol Thanks

  • RON PAUL FOR PRESIDENT!!!!!!!

  • I sure could have used this video last week; where did you ground the welder?

  • @sjagain GREAT QUESTION!!!! You can clamp to the aluminum head and the electricity conducts fine into the broken stud. You can also grip the nut to be welded with needle nose vice grips and ground the vice grips.

  • You're lucky that shit was still sticking out. Try welding it when it's below flush ... wheres my f-in T&D.... (Ron Paul -Thats the best joke. {not a bad guy, just not viable. He does not care who has nukes. His foriegn policy is non existant}).

  • @miniweener When I study his foreign policy and then watch what CNN reports it to be..... I can see why you might think that. His policy is trade with everybody, attack nobody, DEFEND the US from attack from ANYBODY. That's what the Dept. of DEFENSE is for. It's not for burglary, plunder, empire, or paranoia killing. Defense. Ron Paul is 100% FOR DEFENSE.

  • @briansmobile1 Thanks for your opinion. I have worked for the DOD for a number of years as a 19D. I can assure you all I did was burgle, Plunder, empire?, & kill because I was paranoid...Trading with murderers, dictators, and oppressors is not a good or viable foreign policy. Last thought -how do you defend against a nuke? Answer -you can't. The truth is you have to use trade embargos/assasinations/etc to ensure people who shouldn't have nukes don't get them. Food for thought...

  • @miniweener Things aren't what they seem. There's what the news reports and then there's reality. WMD's were not found in Iraq. We all went nuts supporting the war, but for what? We invented Nukes in Oak Ridge TN, and Los Alamos, New Mexico. Bill Clinton simply handed these secrets to CHINA in the mid 1990's. We train and arm people all through history and the world who later become our enemies. Empire building and assassinating backfires for us horribly??? New plan?

  • @briansmobile1 Spot on! You are a badass mechanic and you understand US foreign policy. I wish i could subscribe again and again. lol.

  • @pbuttandjam Thanks-I spend an average of 10 hours a week studying history, law, and foreign relations. I've lived in foreign countries and coached immigrants to help them speak English.

  • @pbuttandjam Our culture is different because of our media, religions, constitution, and genetic make up. It's really easy to clash with another culture, but it's also easy to talk.

  • Joke

whats the difference between God and a doctor??

Answer God doesn't think he's a doctor. Have used this tactic to remove busted manifold bolts many times so much that i almost look forward to twisting one off just to prove

i can get it out no drilling

no tapping It is the VERY best solution

  • @smwork2947 lol = )

  • Thermostat housing bolt! Been there, had that happen. How I wished to be doing dishes instead of dealing with a broken bolt. Only difference is dishes need to be done continuously.

  • Thanks for the great video. After watching this I used a similar method to remove a center bolt from a 30 year old Honda mower. I had burred the 14mm bolt head that holds the cutting disc to the drive shaft. This method worked a treat. Thank-you from Australia !

  • @4x4simon4x4simon You're welcome- way to go!

  • I just love the fact none of you guys plug ports to keep crap out and never disconnect the battery for welding - then wonder why other things fuck up!

  • @MrDohall1 lol there, there, It will be ok. We all have room to improve. And when I build a piano I proceed as though I'm building a piano. This car needed a clutch too. It went three more months and is now in the wrecking yard- the owner didn't want to pay for the clutch repair. Thanks for watching out for me though.

  • you are the man was able to remove the drain plug thanks alot for this help

  • @olga1986israel You're welcome! Way to go!

  • Whats the difference between Man and Concrete

Concrete only needs to be Laid once! :)

  • How about some Nuts 'N Bolts?

  • there is out there

  • What a cheap ad for the creepy old man Ron Paul.

Ron Paul is the worst ultra right racist there out there. Ron Paul is not a friend of the American workers. ....Do you want to see how bad Ron Paul is for America? What the reaction from his fanatic religious followers...they are willing to kill little girls at the mall him.

  • fuck man! brutal. Nice video, thanks.

Wish I had a welder. And wish I bought a Maap Gas torch a couple months ago instead of regular old propare.

  • he is HiGh HAHA

  • @TheMrhubby what a stupid comment. HAHA

  • great video. yeah broken bolts suck but seized in stuff sucks to, and thats stuff that will not break, but yet will not turn either.

  • @kenman1717 That's when it's time to grab a heat wrench!

  • 2:00. lol, I so thought you were gonna say "stop, drop, and roll" after "it launches into flame id have to..."

  • @CrikeyMang LOL!

  • Ron Paul 2012 hell yeah man

  • Great video! I agree - spend some time in the garage and learn how to make tools pay for themselves! I bought my first welder at a pawn shop and recovered my expense in 1 day! Now, I'm big-doggin it with a Hobart 210 and it's payin for itself as well! Keep postin vids, Bro!

  • @swat253dg Right on brother! Way to go!

  • i have a 93 pathfinder with an exhaust leak, i have the broken off piece which is a short length of thread with a nut on it and then the point where it is broken off is naked, so i'm assuming it's a stud. idk. What would be your best advice on fixing this at home?

  • @eallend Likely you can drive the stud out. A torch would be a great idea to preheat it first. It's hard to say without looking at it, but I bet the rust is the only thing holding it in place.

  • @briansmobile1 well to do that i'd have to take everything off from what im hearing. the only accessible part of the bolt i could feel down there is the broken off half i have layin in my car.

  • Great stuff! When i had done about three or four head gaskets I felt i was anexpert.I had just torqued my last bolt in the sequence it was 2:00 pm and I had promised the car back at 5:00 . The bolt snapped! I ran to my Napa store to get some advise. The first guy suggested taking the block to a machine shop (not good the engine was still in the car) the guy next to him suggested backing it out with a prick punch or trying a finger. I learned about tension &not reusing bolts from a warped head

  • @joekster100 Man those are the watershed lessons that make a great mechanic.

  • You hate broken off bolts. You HATE broken off bolts. VOTE RON PAUL!

  • well done!

  • Pretty dang smart idea. I picked up a 90 dollar flux welder down at Harbor Frieght, maybe it will come in handy one day. Was more of an impulse buy. You're my go to guy on mechanic vids. Going to try and tackle a head gasket on a buddies Toyota soon. Sure I'll run into tons of problems with that one. Which is another reason I've been watching your vids. I dont have a clue what I'm getting in to, lol Happy New Year bro

  • Great Video man!!!! I have to keep this in mind.

  • @jdmfreak92 Thanks

  • Ron Paul!

  • I shud try this on ma click-pin...

  • another way is to drill it and then tap it.

  • Don't you stand the chance on messing up the vehicles computer by welding without disconnecting it first? I'm worried about frying my computer from the electrical surge from the welder...

  • @powerking73 GREAT QUESTION! Nope. little to no risk. Disconnect it to be safe if you want.

  • I with you body a broken bolts is the worst i hate them tooooooooooooooo

    amigo

  • I am completely with you. I HATE HATE HATE broken bolts, it turns a 20 minute job into a 2 hour job. You were lucky that you were able to get to the bolt.

  • A lot of people think it's the expansion and contraction that makes the part loose. In some case's that is true but the real reason is heat turns the rust/corrosion to a powder. Also heat changes the molecular structure of metal.

Burn ovens are run at 800 deg and 99% of paint and rust is burned off but changes the steel.

BRIAN can you show a vid of REMOVING a broken TAP out of a BLIND hole?

The tap breaks jagged and on the interior of the threaded hole.

  • You requested a joke?

A priest checks into a hotel and says to the clerk "I hope the porn channel in my room is disabled."

She replies "No it's regular porn, you sick bastard"

    Thanks for the nice videos!

  • just google SEA-FOAM and read about DEEP CREEP

You can get it all most everywhere auto parts are sold.

Once you use this stuff you will never use the blue and yellow stuff ever again.

NO FIRE and really good on throttle bodies. guns airtools engine storage

this is good stuff no i dont work for them lol

  • @cloverdale87 Cool man. Thanks for the tip!

  • Hey Bro' it is OXY-DA-TION' HAHAHAHA!!LOL, anyway just messing with you! i thank you for the video and i am digging the RON PAUL poster in the background, i really hope he wins, he has my vote! I have a bolt with a drill bit broken in it and i think i will give it shot with the welded washer and nut, hummmm!! tomorrow it is ..carry on old chap'. peace bro"..

  • thanks bro! good info.

  • @popoqwer You're welcome- good luck!

  • Hi Brian, very good video and saved my day with my broken stud on a exhaust flange to manifold.

Question to you: what type welding did you use for the process? thanks

  • the way it really works is the heat makes the bolt expand but then it shrinks when it cools thats the real reason it works!

  • im having a big porblem getting three broken bolts out of a engine block any other ideas

  • @dfifter You didn't say what the block is made of. That's a big deal.

  • @dfifter Do you have a welder [wire feed]

Just take your time and build weld on top of the broken bolt

when flush place a nut over the stud and fill with weld

    use socket to remove.

The heat from the welder will powder the rust and it will thread out.

  • It's called DEEP CREEP.

  • Hi I like your vids

If you dont want fire and want something better as a nut buster?

SEA FOAM has a nut buster that works better with heat and wont catch on fire.

    Low VOC

Once you try it you wont use anything else.

  • @cloverdale87 Hey Dude, where can i find that seafoam nut buster?thanks i am in new york..let me know..

  • joke? yes. funny? you tell me. so here goes...

Blonde lady decides to finally go for it and get those replacement windows. (You know the ones.) Has em put in loves them. A year goes by & the contractor calls wantin to know why she hasn't paid the bill. She tells him, "That slick salesman of yours said that these windows would pay for themselves in a year. Duh!"

  • @fomoco300k Not bad!

  • if that happened too me i will kill some one LOL

  • @fordf150839 I used to react/feel that way too. lol

  • Great video, nice solution. Ever removed a sheared off brake fluid bleed nipple from a brake caliper with nothing exposed to weld to or get hold of.

  • the welder you got dont need crypton ... i use to work with a lincoln it was amazing .. all the thing you can do with a welder is crazy ...

  • All this and Ron Paul too? WTG brian!

  • @RooFx Thanks ; )

  • GREAT VID ! I've been fussing with a broken bolt in a 100 year old foot vice and have gotten nowhere. I can't wait to try this tomorrow! Great presentation! Keep 'em up.

  • RON PAUL 2012 you got it brosef

  • @D35TRUCT0 He's the only one who wants to fight for YOUR freedom. The others just want money and power and are for sale to the banks.

  • @briansmobile1 precisely. great vids keep it up

  • @briansmobile1 That is feckin ace. A bolt sheered off on my old Suzuki DT8 outboard, tried the usual butchery to get it out, heating with a blow torch, mole grips, cutting a notch for the impact driver, all to no avail. I'm buying a welder. Sean Connery had fallen on hard times. His agent phones one night and says "Sean, I've found a job for you. Be there for tennish in the morning." Sean says "Tennish?? But I haven't got a racket!"

  • Ha!, my teacher at my Tech school told me this trick...Looking forward to trying it out :P

  • Hi, a bolt holding the starter motor on my mercruiser inboard boat engine snapped off. Trouble is it screws in from the bottom upwards. DO you recon it can be welded from the bottom up? Removing the whole engine is very expensive :(

    thx

  • @vjanda1 It's hard to say not having seen it. Most likely you can remove the starter and get to it better. If you do a video response I may be able to help you better.

  • i have a small around 6mm broken nut below the surface on my fuel tank near the pump... i dont think i wanna weld or do anything involving heat because its on top of the fuel tank... any ideas? i really need some help on this... i dont wanna change the whole tank because of this!

  • @NEVERENDS90 You might consider using a dremel to slot the top and use a flat screw driver to back it out. OF COURSE take precautions to prevent sparks mingling with the fuel vapors.

  • i have a bad problem in my case...What is the steps i need to take for a broken bolt with no lip and there is already a off center drilled hole threw the bolt? And the bolt is still in there!

  • @dlopez7631 I'd use a dental tool to put grease or wax on the threads (non bolt because you're broke off below surface) so your weld won't stick to them and set a nut centered on top of the hole with a smaller inside diameter opening *(one size smaller) Then wire weld to the top of the bolt and fill the hole and then the nut. Be sure to weld into the rim of the nut after it's full for leverage/strength and also be sure the nut threads and bolt top are cleaned out with alcohol/brake cleaner.

  • Great trick for removing the bolt. I once saw my brother oxidize a bolt that was snapped off below the surface using an acetylene torch. I was totally amazed. The block threads were fully intact. He said it works because the heat doesn't transfer across the threads rapidly enough to damage the threaded hole. I'm off now to return the spark plugs for my 4-runner V-6 thanks to watching your video first. They gave me the single electrode type. Wish you worked in my city. I 'd have a new mechanic.

  • @jfdonnald Thanks and you're welcome. You're a gentleman and a scholar. You're spelling and grammar are extraordinary! I love it!

  • Hate them? i have 10. and the stud is IN the block!

  • i subscribed

    ;d

  • i cant say i enjoy the "algebra" of a broken bolt but i am glad you do :D and i want a maagnet tool that appears when i whistle for it, were did you get it ? kennels ? anyways good vid man cheeeers :D

  • @Shroffff I get all my pet tools from Petco here in town. That way I don't have to find them they just come to me. ; )

  • that is a good trick.. I bought a 300.00 welder and went through 3 rolls of wire in the first week fixing everything that I had been putting off..

  • @kary1982v6 They're FUN huh?

  • @briansmobile1 OOOHH YYYEA!

  • @kary1982v6 Kool Aide flashback! lol

  • Been watching ur videos for a good while now, and I love them., just one small thing please please please start recording the actual work. The videos would be so much better.

    Thanks

  • Brainsmobile yeah I usually use a rig welder but use what you have good job bud

  • We the subs should pitch in and get you a tripod for Christmas :)

  • @peelout40 ha ha good call.

  • @DrMMHMD I did use antiseize lubricant... I had to use a reverse drill bit and tap'd out the out

  • @briansmobile1 Nice ron paul poster! Gotta do this with the impala unfortunately. My dumb droid won't upload the video of it

  • Nice tip about broken bolts but welding scares me, I'm scared I might burn myself.

  • Oxidization? I think you nean oxidation. But thanks for the vid.

  • @docdavidb You are correct. I thought it sounded wrong and looked it up AFTER the video ; ) Oh well. You're sharp. You understood.

  • Keep on keeping on

  • @CURBECK Will do. Poured a bunch of concrete today. I'm way excited to have it be done!

  • I really hate broken manifold studs that are flush with the head, especially on aluminum heads

  • in my opinion using a welder is the only way i would use to remove a borken off bolt

  • hi ya any more hunting videos

  • Awesome Brian! I've got lots of tools, now I need to buy myself a welder. This is the best method I have ever seen as far as removing stock bolts, brilliant man!

  • i bought a welder 6 years ago to get a bolt out of the sway bar on my 4x4 chevy, no chance of getting a drill on it and i could thread a nut on the top. when i was done i glued it to my welder as a prize.

  • Need a welder for christmas !!

  • @Squirrelyone Christmas in July!

  • I might not have been the only one to recommend it but I think I did. I've used this methood soooo many times I Love it. But your right I hate broken bolts.

This dog, is dog, a dog, good dog, way dog, to dog, keep dog, an dog, idiot dog, busy dog, for dog, 20 dog, seconds dog! ... Now read without the word dog.

  • awesome vid. Once I was trying to weld a nut to the bolt the weld didn't wnat to keep them together ;( whats the problem??

  • @blackdusterv8 could be many reasons. One the metals could be different and another reason your welder isn't hot enough to get enough penitration of the weld. Also your area could be dirty.

  • @blackdusterv8 2Late's right. If your surfaces aren't super shiny and clean where the weld goes it won't stick.

  • Ron Paul 4 pres (impeace obama) i'll keep my freedon, money, and guns HE can keep the change

  • @CoDkiller1011 Banks and foreign investors own that puppet. (bless his heart) The whole idea is a single international government like England tried to do in the past. The US won't join because we've always been an example to the world of wealth and innovation. With crappy mandatory public education and intentionally trashing the economy with ACORN and the Affordable Housing Act they are working to reduce and redistribute wealth to the Bankers. Wonder Barrack plays to the UN and not US.

  • That's a really smart idea. Weld a nut and then use a ratchet to back it out. Incredible!

  • this is my first method for @#%&()_^ broken bolts :)

  • ron paul supporter huh? i like him, i might vote for him if he really is serious about legalization

  • hey brian used that trick every time i broke a bolt im so glad you made this video i have a Lincoln electric welder paid for it's self 10 times over

  • Any time you win is a good extraction and is better than a helicoil or drilling out and retapping. Heat is usually the answer, I usually try in order: wd or penetrating fluid, cold freeze stuff, then the old oxy-propane or welder depending on the situation.

  • great tip. thank you for sharing

  • Which kind of welding do you do?? Mig or tig??

  • @ndchevy Neither. It's Nig welding. Nig is short for N...um....something that starts with N and ends with Rig.

  • What kind of welding do you do?? Mig or tig??

  • Now that is an OLD Subaru! I love them though they are really cool cars, the old Subarus from the 80s and early 90s were the best (is this a GL/DL?). What was the problem on it?

  • @ryansauto93 Bad clutch, leaking water pump, and coolant spewing from the intake manifold. I was told to replace the intake manifold gasket. (it was the worst of the three.)

  • brian i hate when that happen too is a nightmare amigo

  • @1elAguila It's bugger!

  • tthanks for sharing your know how very useful

  • @rtzapper You're welcome!

  • Good job, Brian. I like this technique a lot, too. It might even work when the bolt is recessed, and I saw a technique using a tig welder for a broken recessed bolt in an aluminum block (weldingtipsandtricks here on youtube). People who show how to do it on youtube recommend a washer to prevent spill of the weld down onto the block. You seemed to have no trouble using a nut with a cap shoulder. Cheers,

    Dave

  • @spelunkerd Ya the cap nut negates the need for a washer.

  • Typed rwj in my phone and replaced it with rejected lol

  • How the heck are you guys watching this?

Its telling me its still being processed...

  • Note to new and old viewers alike, at 3:06, Brian calls (whistles, aka "the tool call"), to his tools and they respond! How many of your tools respond like that? Brian did you take a class to learn how to weld? What would you recommend? The mantra for this video, "I hate broken off bolts," who could argue with that! I've noticed that PB Blaster burns well too... LOL I had one Auto Tech instructor and he used to say, "a cross-threaded bolt is, as good as using Loctite." LOL

  • @epiphaknee I learned to weld from a professional welder when I worked for an Engineering firm that crashed cars to generate expert witness evidence. In trade I taught him how to do timing belts and motor swaps. I always like to learn from people who do whatever it is. I've had many teachers that failed to do well and turned to teaching. They were a waste of time! (bless their hearts) As for Loctite- it breaks down with heat and you get to pick your color of stuck.

  • @briansmobile1 So I take it you were a Highway Engineer?

  • @counkev I laid out courses for calibration of instruments for Mercedes Benz pro driver Frank to run. I also cut nice cars in half and even some large trucks. I also drove expensive cars and projects etc to California.

  • @briansmobile damn good job buddy thats How i do it too

  • @badass98kx250 Was it you that said do it this way?

  • no, your awesome!

  • @upshift123 No, no, no, YOU are awesome!
