  • The timing of this episode and the numerous similarities to some of my blog entries is just tooo co incidental. Me thinks I have also contributed my time and talent to this show - but without a thank you, a donation, or even an acknowledgement. I can't prove it, but it sure looks like more than a coincidence to me. After all that, and my donations, you'd think you could send a few readers my way. This just really swisses me off.

  • I only now had a chance to see this episode. The "Josephus" line is devastating if you know ancient history. I'm guessing that one you slipped in for the chosen few?

    I laughed till it hurt.

  • that ending is perfect

  • so good. santorum reference +10points

  • The only bad thing here is the show ends too soon, you see the bar and think u can enjoy it for a lot longer!

  • Epic ending :DDD

  • ... so they are myth-informed.

  • "those lawyers are pure evil" haahahahahha

  • Lol Ceaser's mom had more men than Ted Haggard

  • I wouldn't mind spending an eternity with this Jesus ;)

  • @Dagnyyyyyy Line forms to the right.

  • Buahahaha. One of your best Misterdeity! Thx, mate

  • SOPA and patriot act are the products of sick minds.

  • The Josephus reference was priceless. The gawd squad always tries to use that as a "historical" reference for the proof of the existence of a man called Jesus and I'm constantly telling them that the dates do not match up to have made Josephus a contemporary source. He would have been just born if at all at the supposed date of Jesus' crucifixion. Never mind the whole christian apologist doctoring or the fact that Josephus was an unbeliever and had no love for christanity.

  • That was so my reaction when Newt won.

  • "myth informed"... lmao.

  • Been meaning to ask: How are Jimbo's teeth, mouth, etc.?

  • @AtheistinFundyLand They are coming along. It's quite a process.

  • @misterdeity My teeth were a complete mess when I was a kid. Both my upper and lower canines were growing in strange places. The orthodontist eventually gave up and pulled out my lower canines.

But it's oh-so-much-harder to do as an adult. That's why you rarely see adults with braces. Kids have softer bones. The teeth move more easily. It's also why I wore my upper retainer until I was 21. The lower one...not so much. The teeth are a little crooked, but not Great Britain crooked.

  • @AtheistinFundyLand Ha!!! I got in so much trouble for making a joke last season about the British and their teeth, so I can't go there again. But you are so right about the adult braces thing.

  • Too many awesome parts to mention....but that Gingrich bit at the end almost made me choke on my coffee!

  • Myth-informed, very good.

  • Lol, Santorum, SOPA, Haggard, and economy references. So funny.

  • This episode's awesome though I fear much of the best material will go over the head of people who haven't authentically studied the historicity of Jesus.

  • The devil is a Christian? Ah. That explains a lot, actually. lol!

  • Brilliant. Loved it :)

  • Hilarious Episode! Great job!

  • Hilarious! Great job!

  • Hilarious! Great job!

  • let me donate one time with my card. cant be bothered to join paypal

  • Brilliant ending:D

  • Myth-informed......HA!

  • more Words, please!

  • @hopelessone15 Coming. We're shooting one this week.

  • "I don't think you're a Beast." killer funny

  • It's just a shame the big D and Lucy don't have a daughter of marriageable age. I wouldn't mind being the Son-in-Law of God.

  • @poetdesmond We don't have any kids together. I have a 21-year old daughter, and Amy's daughter is in her early teens. So, you'll have to wait a while.

  • @misterdeity 21 year old daughter? i've met her. in my dreams of course.

  • what is the title of part 1. I remember it but I want to watch it again where Jesse first figured out that his death was not needed. Was it because you were going with the organic model?

  • @asiekdilsa Yes, the organic model made his sacrifice unnecessary. And it's called, "Mr. Deity and the Quitter." It's the last episode of season three.

  • Happy birthday Lucy ^^ wouldnt be the same series without you

  • happy birthday to lucy!

  • Top quality as always Mr.D. Also, Lucy is looking absolutely gorgeous!

  • @xSolraccarloSx She is breathtaking every day. I'm the luckies SOB on the planet. And today's her birthday!

  • @misterdeity HAPPY BIRTHDAY LUCY!

  • @misterdeity Best wishes to the both of you. :) It still blows my mind she's a Christian and you're an atheist.

I wish the relationships I've had with Christians were better. Things have finally calmed down with the family, as long as we never talk about anything interesting or important. ;)

  • @misterdeity Divinities get all the girls

  • @misterdeity Happy birthday to Lucy (she's looking younger every year ! )

So, that makes her a capricorn (like me, jan 17) and we all know that zodiac signs are realy important.

Wikipedia tells me that "Capricorn is ruled by the planet Saturn." Saturn/Satan/Lucy !! , now deny that that isn't significant !!

However, it also tells me that Capricorn's "Fall" is Jupiter.

Jupiter/Zeus/the Deity .. You damn it, It's not looking good !

Keep up the good book, no, not book, I meant good work !

    Bob France

  • @misterdeity Happy late birthday Lucy XD

  • TAM9 T-shirt, excellent!

  • Great, as usual! Thank You!

  • Dang you guys are good! Loved this episode. My order for seasons 3 and 4 arrived a week ago, I'm in heaven. Can I say that?

  • Did not see that coming! God, (or Brian) that was funny! Pudgy-little-white-guy Newt wants to Lincoln/Douglas Obama cause somehow he thinks people will see him as Honest Abe standing next to Obama as pudgy-little-white-guy Stephan Douglas. Makes for bad mythology but pretty top notch delusion!

  • @wailinburnin Yeah, that would be more like the Lincoln/Puglas debate. I'd love to see it though. These guys who live in the bubble think that no one but them have rational arguments. I remember when I was working for Dennis Prager in the early '90s and he debated Ira Glasser, head of the ACLU. Prager thought he was going to clean the floor with Glasser, but he got his clock cleaned instead -- at least he knew it though, and admitted it to me.

  • That Jesus is so damn HOT! Whoo!

  • @Xoletta And that Mr. Deity, too. Whoohoowoo.

  • @Xoletta And his voice just sends me too. Grrrrrr!

  • @Xoletta Yeah, he's one cute sonofadeity.

  • So all a 7 minute setup for a lame political joke?

    Lame

  • @mmanyen61 That's what I thought!

  • The Massacre of the Innocents is a rehash of something in the Torah? Good episode, the ending was perfect.

  • @RJLbwb I thought I remembered reading something like that in Exodus. Then some kid ends up in a basket floating down the Nile? Did you hear that one too?

  • @misterdeity well toss my unbelieving backside in the fictional pits of Hell. I wasn't aware of Biblical Pharaohonic Israelite baby killing. But there it is in Exodus. Thanks!

  • Another wonderful episode. Thank you.

  • Larry has trimmed down quite a bit & looking kinda hot now. . . .

  • @augusts1 "Kinda hot now?!!!" Are you freakin' kidding me?! Jimbo has been, and will always be, the sexiest beast known to man.

  • @misterdeity Alrighty then, sexiest beast known to man it is! Geeks are ALWAYS hot of course but Jimbo is looking quite in shape in this vid.

  • God, watching a new Mr. Deity feels so good! Thank you so much for that. :-)

Btw., did you guys remove some of the clips from iTunes? I got in the mood to watch the original Quitter-episode, but it wasn't there anymore. Same for the beginning of the last season, Mr. Deity and the Woman and quite some more. Why are they not available anymore, if I may ask? :-(

  • @JonahNazir They're all there in the playlist. Wait, are you in Germany?

  • @misterdeity Uhm ... yes.

Let me guess, there are some issues with the german podcast directory on iTunes? :-(

  • ... If you're going to use "geographically", you HAVE to use "temporally". You can't say "geographically and through time". It's not allowed.

  • @jmthetank Ha!!!! That's the way I wrote it, but I knew Jimbo would never be able to spit that out with his braces, so I changed it for him. That's so freakin' funny!!!!!!!!!!

  • He's baaaaaack! Waiting for the Deity to receive calls from William Lane Craig.

  • @BigIdeaSeeker Oh, that would be sweet!

  • I love when a video's comment thread is nothing but replies.

  • HAHA! "Cesars mum had more men than Ted Haggard.." Incredible... ;-)))))

  • This is what I'm suggesting - make unlawful religious practices which sanction torture, murder, etc. but still allow for freedom of religion. I can't see how suppressing the political ambitions of Muslims is any different than supressing the political ambitions of Christians or Jews, or me, or you. If you take political mobility away from one group, then you must take it away from all groups. It would mean you, or your group, would reign supreme over all the others in this scenario.

  • dude jesus is hot!

  • You guys really need to push the prosperity gospel a little bit more.

  • Best one in a little while! Love you guys.

  • I'm ready to tackle the questions now, but I'm going to ask that they be restated clearly, so that I stay on topic when addressing them.

  • @lessermystery What's the question? And did you read my post regarding the previous thread?

  • @misterdeity Yesterday. But I can't find it now.

  • I admit, even after reviewing what I was told to do with respect to chasing down conversations in this forum, I'm still forced to rummage through threads to find what I'm looking for. Not transparant for this dimensionally miopic poster. Anyway, just wanted to note that when the diety got behind my hater, at least 27 people got on board with that. Not sure how many are on board with his position on personal attacks, but not so many thumbs up, that's for sure. LOL.

  • Didn't get the last joke from south carolina :c

Btw i liked the way that the begging scene is going, would be nice to see something different to catch our attention as you said, loved the show!

  • @Ryosuke1208 newt gingrich has been proven to be untrustworthy in both his personal and proffesional life and the majority of a state in america has just said they want him to run their country. this is of course something that sane, intelligent and rational people do.

  • @androidk18 And as some of my women friends have pointed out, there's no way in Hell they want a first lady who was sleeping with another man's wife for six years. I'm no prude, but I have to admit that I find that extremely distasteful as well.

  • @misterdeity I think you meant to write "another womans husband" but yeah, cheating is cheating, both of those people are pretty scummy.

  • Great stuff as always.

Is it just me, or is the lighting on the characters' faces not up to the usual standard? And did I catch a glimpse of the edge of the white background?

  • @timw1971 You might have. I thought I caught all of the background problems, but perhaps not. I was playing around quite a bit with color correction, and other things. We have a totally new set-up this season, and I'm still learning how to deal with all the changes. It's very perceptive of you to notice (as much as I hate it, I have to give you some kudos).

  • This is probably my favorite episode so far. I love that you finally worked in the Jungian Archetype Hero reference as well as Josephus and the probable forgery perpetrated by Eusebius. Well done! Now if you could touch on the Epicurian Paradox and "The Problem of Evil" I think you'd have a perfect argument. My hat's off to you, sir.

  • @LordJereth We did the problem of evil in our very first episode, Mr. Deity and the Evil. And last season we did stuff on free will, Hell, and all kinds of stuff that fits right in with the kind of thing you're interested in.

  • BTW, this is the best of your most recent. If this is "phoning it in" what can you do with a little cash? I would renew my subscription, but I was supposed to have cable installed tomorrow and stupid Comcast didn't tell me my bill would end up being about $150 when the "special prices" ended.

Looks like I'll end up going ANOTHER seven years or so with no TV and a hole in my understanding of pop culture. Can't afford TV; can't afford Mr. Deity either, although I think your stuff is better.

  • @AtheistinFundyLand Try Hulu and Netflix. There's a lot of content, and they're both pretty cheap -- cheaper than cable.

  • @misterdeity Thanks, Mr. D. I already use Netflix. I used to use Hulu more. I should check it out again.

Even though I'd told them thanks, but no thanks, Comcast made an appointment for me to have cable Internet and TV installed. I turned them away at the door this morning. They have such a bad reputation, I panicked and drove down to the local office. Sure enough, I was "hooked up". I had an account number and everything. I wonder how much they're going to try to charge me. :(

  • Is this the "Jesus probably never existed" meme again? As an atheist I don't like this. Most historians think Jesus probably existed even the secular or Jewish ones. Why should religious people take our strong claims seriously (ie evolution happened) when we make more dubious claims (ie Hitler was a Catholic, Jesus was mythical, etc) with the same confidence?

  • @sulljoh1 What evidence do most historians cite for their belief in jesus?

  • @sulljoh1 Not many people claim Hitler was a Catholic, they say he believed in an all powerful god as referenced repeatedly in "Mein Kampf". And if you do a little background reading you'll see there is a very strong argument that there never was a Jesus Christ and that if there was (as the video points out) he wasn't born in nazerath, wasn't born to a virgin, wasn't a tall, straight haired white man and didn't have superpowers... I mean when is a Jesus not a Jesus???

  • @Marksd99 That's a great line -- "when is a Jesus not a Jesus?" I'm so using that.

  • @misterdeity Cool!!! SOPA will be in touch about my royalties.

  • @sulljoh1 I know the "scholars" and "historians" are dubious about this stuff. Perhaps there was some guy named Jesus that they attached this stuff to. But if you read "Jesus: Neither God nor Man" and just go the all the references he marshals, I think you'll see that there's at least enough to call the claim into questions. And with all the purely mythic features of the story and the character, can't we at least throw up the question?

  • @misterdeity To add to what you're saying, it seems likely to me that Jesus existed, if even under a different moniker. At the very least he was a charismatic leader and at best he was very powerful shaman. In either case, he pissed off a lot of people and had to die. But Jesus "Christ" never walked the earth. The title "Christ" is roman and a designation, like "saint" only much higher. Higher than the Pope even, which is ironic, because "Christ" is a concept, albeit a deifying "Godly" one.

  • @misterdeity I'll look up that bibliography. Thanks much. I'm no expert but I think there are records of several figures around the same time claiming to be the Jewish Messiah. It shouldn't matter to us if there was one more eccentric Rabbi who inspired the Jesus story though, right? Almost a whole generation of intellectuals denounced racism/sexism by claiming there were no differences between the races/sexes. Like this, it's unnecessary for the argument and undermines credibility.

  • Comment removed

  • @sulljoh1 Even if Jesus did exist, a lot of the things that were attributed to him were already attributed to other deities. That's a fact. :) Usually with theists I give them the benefit of the doubt and say Jesus probably existed, BUT he wasn't born of a virgin; he didn't turn water into wine; he didn't rise from the dead, etc. That's mythological crap added to his story later.

Just because Troy was (probably) found doesn't mean cyclopses exist.

  • @AtheistinFundyLand Exactly! I wish more non-believers talked like you. It gives ammo to the other side to try and argue that these was no such person as Jesus at the time. Drawing attention to the parallels like you did has much more intellectual weight.

  • I really enjoy Mr Deity :D

  • contributions, huh.... maybe you should outsource.

  • LOL!! "...more men than Ted Haggard" :DDDD

  • ha! Josiphus. That was a good one.

  • Brilliant, this rates as your best all time for me. Glad to have contributed to you over the last few years, this one episode made it all worth it. Thank you and well done.

  • @TheSlothHead No. Thank YOU!!!

  • I donated at your website and less then an hour later a beautiful blonde, way out of my league asked me out on a date. Thanks for the blessing Mr D!! If I donate more is there anything you can do about this rash?

  • @guidi2005 No problem. As for the rash, see a doctor. That thing is lookin' nasty!

  • @misterdeity I'm not sure if anyone has ever asked you before, but how long does it take to come up with a script generally? because it seems like all the jokes take time to think of, unless it just comes naturally

  • @jsamari I generally write for about a week with all the revisions. But the truth is, there's really never a time when I'm not writing (I suspect this is true for most writers -- Amy is less than thrilled with this aspect of my life, btw). I'm always looking for ideas, and then spinning them around in my head forever before I actually sit down and start to write. I wrote Mr. Deity and Death in 1/2 hour because I had worked everything out in my head in the previous two weeks. Can you say, OCD?

  • Jesus the Messiah (anointed king) maybe be a Sacral (or Sacred) King. Such a king may serve a traditional length of time, such as a year, and then be sacrificed for the sake of the community. A new king is chosen to replace him. You can look up 'Domalde' 'Sacred King' on wikipedia. The Golden Bough, so I understand, describes many gods that serve this purpose. But it seems that humanity has had a long tradition of sacrificing kings...which may explain the success of the Jesus Myth.

  • So they're Myth-informed, is that is? lol, great line

  • @lessermystery. To put Hitchens' point in short form, it may be possible to admit facts in any or all of these theistic, deity-cult myths—but so what? Even you accept any of these stories as fact, they do not prove the existence of an omniscient, omnipotent creator.

    That's all...

  • Abarton, Agree that Dionysus changed monikers over the course of his incarnations. Known as Zagreus, Dionysus, and variants of that spelling, Bacchus, and perhaps more, I feel like I'm missing one. Please clarify what you mean by what the ancient greeks believed and by siting this as the only field of discipline having the authority to validate the legitimacy of a myth. I look to Homer, Ovid, Orpheus and a handful of other historians, mythologists, poets etc. as additional sources.

  • @misterdeity What does Jesus say to Lucy after your "Beauty and the Beast" comment?

  • @aikimark1955 Pretty sure he says "I don't think you're a beast."

  • @aikimark1955 Metaphid got it right. He says, "I don't think you're a beast." That was an ad-lib by Sean. Every episode, he comes up with something like that. He's great with that kind of thing.

  • Best episode ever. My compliments to the writer(s)

  • "Mythinformed"

Hope you copyrighted that one because I'm stealing the shit out that bitch son! Sorry, the profane slang was added for dramatic effect.

  • @iz2sicc Copy away!!! You have my permission.

  • Off topic, I hate being forced to root through threads to reconstruct the order of a discussion. The new You Tube seems less functional. In many ways they threw out the baby with the bathwater in the new format. Before I can respond, I have to either find the exact comment, or wing it. In this set up, neither works well.

  • @lessermystery click the "see all" link to the right. Then, click the "Sort by thread (beta)" link above. You can also use your browser's find (Ctrl+F) feature to locate text in the comments.

  • @aikimark1955 Thanks! Great new feature. :)

  • @lessermystery To refresh your memory:

You said science and atheism were both religions based on faith and myth.

Others refuted you, saying science is all about questioning and testing evidence under intense scrutiny to find duplicatable results , and atheism is a LACK of faith in any god.

Everything else said yesterday was off-topic.

  • The mythologies and the litany of so-called miracles, really don't matter in any case. Borrowed, stolen, mimicked, recycled, regurgitated, invented, original or real—not relevant.

search YouTube for: Christopher Hitchens Destroys Biblical miracle claims

  • @blakedes55 There is a demonstratable arguement for its relevancy. If you refuse to entertain the prospect of that, then your statement is dogma, and anything that deviates from the position of your statement is hunted down and killed. Here, my friend, is the basics of a religion, kingdom, autocracy.

  • Didn't Lucy get the memo about making them all really stupid? I'm sure Larry would have updated everyone on such a large part of the plan.

  • Didn't noticed thath you now have 1080p support, nice (:

  • @Ryosuke1208 Season 5 will all be in 1080p.

  • I think it's probably best to leave politics out of the videos, not only because it offends half your fan base no matter what side you fall, but also the fact that, in a year, those jokes just aren't that funny or relevant anymore.

Oh, and in case you couldn't figure it out, I was not pleased that you called me stupid with that last joke... >:(

  • @Tustin2121 In general, I think you're right. But I'm dumbfounded that a Deity viewer is offended at a Gingrich joke. Whether you're liberal or conservative, you should recognize that Newt is a flat-out windbag. We just found out yesterday, that he completely lied to John King about offering witnesses to ABC about the "open" marriage thing. That guy is pure calculating, manipulative scum. Please, say it ain't so, Tustin2121!!!

  • @misterdeity That's it? If this is the only thing against Newt, then he's a better politician than some of the others running for the nomination, and by FAR better than our current president. And even if there are other things that they inevitably dig up out of the depths of his closet, he's still better than Obama. And that's the thing that counts the most - being able to beat the president.

    I hate politics so much...

  • @Tustin2121 Yeah, because racism is so very appealing.

  • @AtheistinFundyLand Did you see me ONCE mention Obama's race? No, you brought up his race. I hate his politics and his policies and where he has driven this country. Get it out of your thick head that this whole thing is all about racism because it is not, and never has been.

I loved Hermin Cain before he had to back out because of trumped up allegations, and I loved Sarah Palin before she had to back out because of the way the media was portraying her. Both because of policies I agreed with.

  • @Tustin2121 which policies did you agree with?

  • @androidk18 Generally speaking, I want a president that will give us less government regulation and cuts to the income tax at ALL levels (not just cuts for people who already don't pay taxes, like our president seems to like). Protection for our constitutional rights as citizens is a must. Being pro-life and anti-gay-marriage are noble causes against our continuing cultural decline, but they tend to lead to more government regulation, and we don't want more of that. That's the main stuff.

  • @Tustin2121 could you please define pro life? every time I hear people describe themselves as pro life they seem remarkable anti-life when it comes to the health of the mother. are you completely anti-abortion/contraception or are there extenuating circumstances that you feel would be acceptible?

  • @androidk18 When I say I am pro-life, I mean that abortion should not happen in the circumstances where the mother is simply inconvenienced by the child. I am not saying contraception should not be used. I am also not saying that, should the complications of the pregnancy lead to the mother possibly dying, she should be denied the abortion that will save her life. I am against abortion as contraception, as that belittles life.

I am also pro-death penalty, as another affirmation of life.

  • @Tustin2121 that last sentance makes no sense to me. how are you pro death as an affirmation of life?

  • @androidk18 I figured. The death penalty is handed out to those that commit the worst of all crimes - murder. When one man takes another's life, the criminal should pay accordingly for his crime. In the same way that when you buy something, it is worth to you the amount you paid for it, life is worth the amount the criminal pays. If he only gets 18 months in jail, that's how much it's worth, which devalues life. This acts as a deterrent to criminals, in the same why high prices deter you.

  • @Tustin2121 except studies have shown that the prescence of a death penalty DOESN'T deter criminals. and now you have the problem that you now have a socially acceptable situation to kill a person.

  • @androidk18 Actually, places who have implemented the death penalty (like Texas, last I checked) DO have a decreased murder rate. It may not be a vaunted "study" but it is visible results.

As for the latter sentence, I ask which is worse, one person dying due to his crimes in a humane way (which, for some crimes, they don't deserve given what they did to their victims), or SEVERAL MORE people dying at his hands because you let him go free?

  • @Tustin2121 why only those two options? why not life inprisonment? why not 20 years? also can you please direct me to where you got this decreased murder rate statistic from? and I have to ask, decreased as compared to what? 'cause last I checked Australia has a lower rate of intentional homocides as compared to america and they don't have the death penalty at all.

  • @androidk18 20 years: that is letting him go free - after 20 years. Also, I refer you to my explanation on value of life. Life: because giving him life is giving him a cushy existence at the expense of the tax payers. And if everyone got life, where would we put them all after so long?

As for the statistic, could you give direct me to this "study" that proved otherwise? The web provides evidence for both sides anyway, but I see a CBS report entitled "Death Penalty Deters Murders, Studies Say"

  • @Tustin2121 just google "homicide rates by country" the first link goes to a website that has a graphic showing every countries homicide rate. click the "referances and data table" button and it shows you the specifics for each country and the sources for their data.

  • @androidk18 Google doesn't work that way anymore - I googled it and got wikipedia at the top. I visit wikipedia a lot more than you do, apparently. I'm not sure what site you're referring to, but you failed to point me to anything.

I also don't seem to be persuading you, so I'm done trying to do so. I've always felt arguing back and forth on an issue and getting no where is futile. Hence why I hate politics. (does this count as a QED in that case?)

  • @Tustin2121 persoanlly 20 years locked up without any outlet or releif would be pretty daunting anyway, then you consider that I'm a non theist with no belief in an afterlife and it gets even worse. after all. the dead person is dead. no suffering or anguish there, there mith have been in the events leading TO their death, but not any more. compare that to 20 years in prison.

  • @Tustin2121 never the less, you have a problem in that you have a situation where it is acceptible to kill people. you think it is acceptible to kill people when they have killed another person and yet you call yourself pro life. even though the act of killing is antitheitical to life and the goals of the actions do not seem fruther the valuation of life.

  • @androidk18 And this is why I stopped arguing, because nothing I said sank in. And it doesn't surprise me that you are an atheist (although, given where this discussion is happening... duh), and it actually makes it understandable as to why you think the way you do. Just go on thinking the way you do. Hopefully some day you will become enlightened. Not necessarily to God, but to the conservative way of thinking.

  • @Tustin2121 nope, no enlightnment. like I tried to say earlier but for yourube not letting my posts through... your opinions seem to be uninformed ideology and confirmation bias. nothing you have said to me is congruent with reality or logic.

  • @androidk18 Thank you, sir, for the best laugh I have had in a while. Please continue with such hypocritical statements, if you wish, while I go elsewhere and do more important things.

Also, "confirmation bias"? I'm not sure what you were trying to say there, but you failed.

  • @Tustin2121 where have said anything that is inconsistant with reality or logic? where have I tried to push an agenda? where have I been hypocritical?

also confirmation bias is an annoying human trait where we unconciously look for data that supports our own beliefs and dismiss data that contradicts it.

  • @androidk18 our brains actually make us feel GOOD for doing so. and yet you haven't anknowleged that there is clear data to suggest that capitial punishment fails to dissuade homocide. the best you've gone is that "it can go either way" which in science would mean that the results are incunclusive and therefore the claim is unsupported.

  • @androidk18 I said the internet will give you support for both ways, not that the issue can go either way. Again, words twisted. The internet suffers this exact same "confirmation bias" that we do, apparently.

Also, science is always inconclusive about anything controversial. See the issue of eggs being healthy - it's switched back and forth several times, and eggs haven't changed.

And science had it's confirmation bias as well: see DDT and the debacle around Silent Spring.

  • @Tustin2121 Unless your'e implying that the internet has a psyche, saying the internet has a confirmation bias is just stupid.

Also those last two sentances of yours just proves that you have no idea how science works.

  • @androidk18 Well, then teach me how science works. Because that whole DDT thing is NOT science, it is "confirmation bias" if anything is.

Also, the internet does have a psyche, or sorts, as it is run by a mass of people. Part of this mass gives us information one way, another part another way (and a third part gives us LOLCATS, but that's not important). Hence "the internet will give you support for both ways".

  • @Tustin2121 FFS Eggs are healthy, just don't eat to many, just like everything else. Confirmation bias has nothing to do with giving "support for both ways" and science does not have confirmation bias only people can have that. Being the type who clearly sees science updating information as some kind of flip flop just shows you are, or you get your information from people who are anti science. Anti science people usually have an immense amount of confirmation bias .

  • @explosivoification Seeing as how science is conducted by people, how can science NOT have confirmation bias to varying degrees? I'm not anti-science, I'm being realistic here: scientists stances on things change all the time. And there are, unfortunately, scientists some of us call corrupt who go out looking for a result. Case in point: DDT. There are also GOOD scientists out there who actually do things right and present the truth.

As for eggs, what you state is the current fact.

  • @Tustin2121 The people conducting the experiment can have confirmation bias, which is one of the reasons we use peer review. Science itself cannot.

It's not that they just changed their stance, it's that they are telling you the most up to date information, more information could have been discovered or else it didn't stand up to peer review.

DDT? I assume you're talking about the insecticide? What about it? Homeotherapy would be a good example of corruption......
