  • even my b-series loving friends wish they had a K. i let a friend drive my car so he got an idea what it felt like. and he loved how torquey my k20a2 felt. at that time, it only had a shitty 2.75 intake from my singlecam, and the worst header (dc swap header) mated to my stock exhaust and it was killing power. he has a GSR/b20 with I/H/E/Skunk2 manifold/type-r cams. my 2 shitty bolt-ons and i was still faster, and even coming from him, he loved how the car ran.

  • @tmenzo939 now i know we're on the same level of the topic. its i agree with bolt on something slow the cars down instead of gaining. although if you do tune with bolt on, then you are actually gaining. the saying goes tuning is the last thing you do to your car which i dont always agree. if you simply modding anything that is affecting the air and fuel mixture, you going have to tune to get the right combustion.

    most people would simply slap stuff on and think they are gaining which its false

  • @BlueRice and as far as being legal, that may be more california right there. but it can still be legal there. you cant have motors older than the year of your car. they have to be the same year, or newer. and being a K going in an older car, its fine. another thing, you may be right to some extent about modding with bolt-ons without tuning. but there have been plenty of K's gaining decent power without tuning with simple bolt-ons. and no. mod for mod, K's actually make more power

  • @BlueRice i dont see ANY b-series gaining 40-50whp from bolt-ons and tuning. if they did, then the B-series will have to flow as good as the K. but in stock form, nope. a simple swap from a tuned 2.5" exhaust to a 3" gained an extra 11whp through the whole powerband, after tuning, on a bolt-on only k20. i love B-series, but once having a K-swap, it just feels better, and sounds so much better, and you feel VTEC pull the car much harder too.

  • @tmenzo939 just in case if your that type of person who goes there saying k series is faster, better. when it comes to mod, these two motor can produce nearly the same power and hit nearly the same time at the drag strip for N/A or turbo. its like comparing lime and lemon, both are sour in their own ways people tend to like the lemon because it yellow ^_^.

  • @tmenzo939 i dont know why you hate b series and like k series. there are big price difference and work needed. b series you can drop it in plug and play for any honda shell. the k series, not only the price cost a lot but you need to modify the shell to make it fit properly. if you pay someone to do it, its going to cost even more for the labor.you also got to think of having legal swap, b series can be bar'd with the car. my statement show the difference in view point why no motor is better

  • @BlueRice what the hell are you talking about? lol. you dont have to modify the shell to get a K in. ive had my k-swap for 3 years, and with the first set of mounts that came out, there wasnt modification back then either. prices of motors are almost the same as B-series. type-r motors are close to 5K just like B-series, the other good motors below type-r are around 2500-3500, and then you have your lower K's which have true VTEC on one cam, like accord k24 or k20a3 which can go from 450-1500.

  • @joescivic i dont do swap myself but all i know the shift linkage wont fit properly. unless you cut it yourself or get after market that make it fits. although the topic isnt about swaping the motor, its about price and difference. if you read that ahead you should understand.

  • @tmenzo939 Well regardless of when it was manufactured, it's most definitely not the best. I just think its silly that all the honda/acura drivers think its this amazing technology. And actually i shouldnt know better, the fact that im a chevy guy and actually know what VTEC is is suprising enough alrready. I dont hate on imports, dont get me wrong ill take a supra in a heartbeat.. i just hate rice and anything trying to be fast. I like high end imports. I think vtec is overrated.

  • @samartz its a cam technology honda/acura uses that changes which cam lobes are being used to open/close the valves. thats a watered down version... and im a chevy guy. so im sure some import fanboy will correct me with a novel on what vtec is in detail. hope this helps though. vtec isnt special, pretty much every manufacturer has a similar technology. but for some reason all these idiots think its the best thing known to mankind.

  • @prosurfer2222 First of all I said "Imagine" & second of all yes the exhaust manifold is connected to the turbo. That part you are correct but your missing more. The exhaust fumes that pass through the manifold spin a little propeller which is connected to a shaft that leads to another propeller or whatever and that compresses air that gets cooled IF you have a intercooler and that compressed air goes into your throttle body for combustion. More Air & Fuel = more power. Have a nice day kid.

    The k20a2 and the k20a3 share the same 2.0-liters of displacement, bore/stroke, block, head, valves, and intake manifold. However, pretty much the entire internals and external bolt ons couldn't be more different.

    The k20a2 has higher compression pistons, more agressive cams, dual valve springs, and a tri-Y header with larger primaries than the k20a3. If that wasn't enough, the K20a2 has a completely different - and more advanced - method of iVTEC than the a3.

    what....in the hell are you talking about. The A2 has a crossover at 5800. The a3 has vtec in rpms below 3k. and its economy vtec for the a3 not power maker. Why else would they put a2's in type s and a3's in base rsx.

  • @jgkov49 absolutely. yes. otherwise they can & will suck in dust, road grime etc., and ruin the engine. picture dirt granules getting into valvetrain components or between the pistons/rings and cylinder walls... it equals engine dead!

  • @jgkov49 not necessarily... that depends on what the owner prefers really. there are individual sock style filters or you can get a fitlration box. Google ITG filters and you will see each. ITG can make a 'box' and filter combo to any size you like... I call the 'box' a filter plate, because that's what they look like... a plate with contours and then the filter material attaches to the plate via clips. N/A rally cars use this set-up as well as touring cars...

  • @Audiosurfsup You still would need a GSR motor, high-comp pistons and maybe headwork+valvetrain and other mods to support the vtec killer cams. In the end, it will idle like crap and won't have anything below 6000, making it useless for normal driving.
