  • CLEVER!!!! I wonder if I can get my blind cat to do this?

  • Hi acecc, Does the cat try to reach it's paw in to the toilet water to "cover" the waste with litter (even though there isn't any ?).

  • @ltahoe7195 -- No, my cat signals that he is finished by tapping the toilet flush handle. It makes a rattling noise and he knows that I will hear it and come give him a treat. Maybe some day he will discover how to flush!

  • So cute!! And funny! I love it when he peeks thru the toilet seat, what a cute cat!

  • thanks ^^ Rio says hi! :D

  • @RioTheKitty Awwww..how's the training going? Give us a report. Or better yet -- make a video!

  • @animal1logic We haven't started yet, Because We just did a photo shoot. But We will start tomorrow :)

  • wat a waste of toilet paper!

  • EWWWH!

  • i get a kitten very soon so do u have any tips on potty training and food ?

  • @cutesofty3009 Yes! Feed your kitten a high-quality canned food that's mostly meat. Don't feed it dry food. Feed your kitten at regular times. Or better yet, get a book from the library on caring for kittens....I think the biggest mistake people make when it comes to training cats is letting them free-feed, that means, eat whenever they want from a bowl full of dry food. If you let a cat free-feed, it will be hard to train him. Because he doesn't care about kitty treats, he is never hungry!

  • @animal1logic hi! i'm gonna have my first kitten next week and i wanted to ask if i could potty train her early and if she can learn it at an early stage. please reply! thanks!

  • @dougiehoney

Hi! I think as soon as the kitten starts trying to use a litterbox, you can begin the training.

With a kitten, make sure it is using a litterbox in the bathroom first. Get a toilet seat and put it over the litterbox like I did in the video. Make sure kitty is using it OK. After a few days of this, you can begin raising this set-up. Put a thin phonebook under it, a couple inches. After a week or so, add another book, another couple inches. Until it is as high as the toilet.

  • Make sure Kitten is OK with using a raised litterbox before you proceed? You don't want to go too fast.

Then make sure you start with a setup with a small hole so Kitten doesn't fall into the toilet by accident!

    That would be tragic!

  • A big Thanks to Julie. I trained 9- that's right 9- cats to use the toilet with this method. I did purchase CityKitty and LitterQuitter but they are too flat and my cats liked the 'bowl' feel of the insert. I went to my dollar store and purchased a bunch of large sturdy plastic tubs/bowls. The training took me a long time as I have 9 cats of all different ages but it is SO worth it! One note, use flushable litter like World Best or SwheatScoop. No need to pay a plumber when your pipes back up!

  • @Fiona64nj -- Wow Fiona! That's terrific! Congratulations on not having to scoop poop & peep from 9 kitties! You rock!

  • LMFAO 1:37-1:42

  • haha funny !

  • LOL no way!

  • "Kool" I will try this... don't like to spend on expenses such as on a litter kwitter that costs around $70, Patiences I have for my cat Starr already trained from the basement to our bathroom now it time to try your method. thanks for your tips. WTG.

  • @GoneOnFire Yeah, do it! You have nothing to lose!

  • Does Benjamin stops drinking from the toilet bowl now that he goes to the toilet? i was just curious coz everytime i leave the toilet seat up first thing they do is drink from it.

  • @cherina137: Actually Benjamin never drank from the toilet. What you can do, is put a bowl of fresh water on the floor next to the toilet. That way, when you start training them to use the toilet as a litterbox, they won't have the awkward sensation that they are soiling their own drinking water.

  • I am happy to report that Benjamin no longer has any training basin in the toilet. I just got tired of removing it and so he pees & does his other business directly into the toilet! It's soooo great to not have a litterbox, buy litter, empty it, wash it, have litter everywhere.

p.s. Benjamin is a dumb cat. It's just that I am a smart owner. :P

  • rofl at the ending!! aaahaaha the way the cat drops the tissue role really good vid and job

  • @redswallow3 Thanks! Tell your friends! :)

  • @animal1logic id be sure too

  • ewww...but great idea!!i really liked it

  • the sight of your cat pooping was a teeny bit gross, i got a kitty and i cant even train him to poop in his litter box, he soaked up my living room.....:/

  • @xSimplyAmusedx All kitties naturally want to go pee in one or two places. You should watch him carefully to see where he tries to go, then gently pick him up and place him in the right area, a litterbox next to the toilet. You can train him, and it takes patience. Lavish him with praise when he does well. Don't ever punish him for doing it wrong after the fact - cats don't usually connect punishment with a natural thing they have to do like going to the bathroom. Praise all the way.

  • @animal1logic thanks for the tips i will try to watch out for the places he likes to go at, under the tub (its on legs) but he is only 2 month, should catch on

  • @xSimplyAmusedx Yes, a little vigilance on your part now will go a long way to keeping your home clean in the future!

  • my cat naturally got up onto the toilet seat!!! maybe i could try this!! haha

  • This vid is super funny :) I´ll try to train my cats, thanks for the tips!

  • My kitten will not urinate in the litter box.

She prefers to go on my carpet in on of the four corners of the living room.

Should I line the corners with newspaper to discourage her?

Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks

  • @marshallman83 Sorry to hear your kitten is having difficulty with the litterbox. You need to watch her carefully to catch her when she is about to go pee. Then, pick her up and bring her to where the litterbox is. Don't scare her or shout "No". Lavish her with praise when she pees where you want her to go. That is the best way.

  • How old should a kitten be before doing this toilet training? Can a kitten be too young for toilet training?

  • @lauraleesmithagain -- I think as soon as the kitten is trying to go in a litter box, you should make the litter box the same height as the toilet. Then when he's successfully using it, start the training. I don't think it's ever too young to get him used to hopping up on a "toilet-like" litterbox. The younger the better!

  • Hey everyone, thanks for your comments and ratings! I have to report that since there's no litter in the bowl at all, my cat now DIGS IN THE TOILET WATER as if it were litter! Okay, this sounds gross, but he only digs in it when it's clean water. He won't do it if he's used it!

    Cats are weird.

  • How do you get your cat to keep all 4 paws on the seat? My cat only keeps his front legs on the seat and keeps hind legs in the litter.

  • What I did was slowly make the hole bigger -- over a few weeks -- until there was hardly any space for the cat's paws in the litter at all. Then the cat will place all 4 paws on the seat and balance. Because there is no place for the paws to go.

  • lol so sweet but my cats unfortunatly drink out the loo =[ but i could have a go at it

  • You could always put a bowl of clean water next to the loo. They probably would learn to drink that instead of the toilet! :)

  • @animal1logic 2 of my cats drink from the sink, and third will wash his paws with the running water. so I think to avoid them from using the bath as a littre I will have some water in the bottom of it. and leave the water running in the sink.

  • Thank you, this is the best video i have seen on: how to toilet train your cat. I'm gonna try it now. :)

  • Also when the cat is used to the bowl I move to a strainer, so the cat is used to the sound & 'plopping' effect. Then I start making holes in the strainer...

  • Great video. I have found that the toilet seat on the 'box' is just an extra step. I go straight to the bowl in the toilet & most cats jump right into this idea. Next I use items at the dollar store to begin the bowl that has a hole method. We should collaborate to make the perfect kit or youtube video Lisa.

  • the east wat to maKE THE hole is by burning 'outside of your house' :)

  • Hi Julie, I am trying the exact same method, Have the same sitz bath, Problem is that when I go to the stage with the hole the cat poops on the floor. I keep taping up the hole and going back a stage. Do you think he will eventually poop in the hole if I give him more time with it?

  • Hi Sharkman, well you have to try to think like a cat. Something is spooking her. What's making her think the floor is better than the sitz bath with the hole. Is there cat litter around the rim of the hole? It's hard to coach you without more details. Do you reward Kitty every time she goes in the toilet with or without the hole? Go to Yahoo Groups and look up Cats T-Training. They have members who are willing to help you! Good luck.

  • Thanks Julie, very helpful.

  • hey julie i've been training my cat for about a month and now i'm in the stage where u cut a whole in the sitz bath , the problem is my cat isn't goin through the hole she avoids the whole , what should i do to make her go in the hole ?

  • I don't know exactly how to solve this without seeing the situation. You should just join the Yahoo! Group "Cats T-Training" on Yahoo. Ask them the question and they can answer it for you! That's where I learned everything about how to toilet train your cat by yourself. Sorry I can't have this discussion on youtube, but they will definitely be able to help you solve the problem of the cat avoiding the hole.

    Best of luck!!! -Julie animal1logic

  • Maybe the hole is too big. Start over with a new sitz bath. Make the hole gradually bigger each week, but make the change so small she can't notice it. You have to trick her. Make sure you put cat litter in the sitz bath so she still thinks of it as a cat box. Some will go down the hole. That's okay. By the end you'll have a token amount of litter around a big hole and she should be pooping in the hole.

  • we are currently using this great method and my 2 cats are taking to it very well we actually skipped step one with the tolit seat on the litter box and it still worked with just using the sitz bath!!!we are still in the midst of training but it all seems to be going very smoothly thanx for the tips!!!

  • plop plop:)...was try to use the toilet paper too!:)...how cute and funny :)

  • This is awesome. 5*

  • funny AND informative.

  • Plop plop fizz fizz

  • It's funny the way your roommate look at you. Cuz when I told my bf I was going to train our cat to use the toilet... he stared at me for like 10 secs lost in his thoughts.. and I could read he was thinking something like "he's crazy"

  • Enjoyed ur video but I have a question & a suggestion or two:

Q: How do u keep the litter 'inside' the sitz once u make the hole? The toilet paper roll a person suggested would only work for that size, and once wet or dirty, or falls in... YUK!

S1: Why not attach the spare seat to the sitz bowl & tape it to that, using it on the floor 1st (rather than taping it to the litter box). Seems you could save a step there.

S2: For the spare, you don't need the lid of the toilet seat, just the seat.

  • Check out Cats T-Training on Yahoo! Groups for all the details and methods on training your cats to use the toilet!

  • Every week you enlarge the hole. The amount of litter will gradually decrease as the hole gets bigger, and the cats will also push the litter into the toilet as they get used to the new setup. Soon you won't have much room in the sitz bath to put litter because the hole will be very large. You basically have a rim of sitz bath with a token amount of litter sprinkled in it. The cats would be going directly into the toilet at that point.

MAKE SURE YOU USE FLUSHABLE LITTER like "World's Best"

  • Hi acecc, yes, after you've transitioned from the "toilet-lid shaped litterbox" to the actual sitz-bath-in-toilet setup, you can keep a small amount of litter in the sitz bath.

  • This is great, thank you for sharing!! I went out and bought the toilet lid and sitz bath (embarrassing!!). My only question is, once you start making a hole in the sitz bath, do you still have litter in there??

  • Omg u showe The Cat takin a s**t?

  • lol great video! It would probably work on on of my cats.. the other doesn't like to even poop IN the litter box.. we have a short, recycled cardboard box for him to poop in instead, infront of the Big Boy box, which until recently, he's decided he's not going to poop in, either. :P

  • This was great - I'm going to pass this on to a couple of friend with cats.

  • LOL too funny! ♥--Hugs and Peanut Butter Cookies--♥ Brittani aka Rhonda Anthony Tanner/R.A.T. Coaching aka B-RAT :)

  • Ha ha FreakCity, I don't think there are bugs in cat poop that kill sea otters! I think maybe you have a bug in your brain, though. Stop global warming!

  • Don't have your kitty potty trained, they have a bug in their fecal matter that makes its way to the ocean, killing off sea otters.

    Look it up

  • so funny lol how the cat crabed the toilet paber great video anyway 5:D!

  • i gotta try this....my cat doesn't even want to go in the box....but maybe i can get him to go in the toilet...i don't think he likes the feel of kitty litter...thanks for help...i gotta go buy another toilet seat....lol...:)

  • Great job. :)

  • lol

  • my cat is 3 will it work now??

  • Hi Julie, I've watched some other vids on the subject as well, and I think this one looks like an very easy and good way to do it. I had a cat who peed in the toilet, but I didn't train him. I will train my future cat(s). This method is also great because you are still be able to use the toilet yourself. Great video, also because the roll of your so called annoyed roommate. Very hilarious! Thanx!

  • I've watched some other vids as well, and I must say: this one looks really easy and good. I had a cat who peed on the toilet, but I didn't train him. I will train my future cat(s). I really liked your vid, also the gag with your so called annoyed roommate, very hilarious! :)

  • well i wouldnt want my cat sitting on my toilet before i go

  • i agree with xXToniLuvsYaXx

    X_X

  • nice... but the cats still need a bit more training on how to use toilet papers !

  • great video i loved the end kinda gross though cause the poop but so cute how the cat starts scratching the toilet paper

  • lol

  • awesome but i dont think we needed to see the ending lol...

  • I'm so gonna try to tech my kitty this, since my room is right next to the litter box and it's smells so bad...

  • wow iv watched a few but your is the best, i have 3 cats but hope i can train them all

  • Thanks! And good luck with your cats. Be patient and you can do it!

  • so I am in the process of training my cat. she did very well until i tried to reduce the amount of litter in the sitz bath. Every time i put just a little litter or no litter, she poops on the floor. Any suggestions? I have been trying to reduce it gradually, but it seems like there is a cutoff point where she just decides there's not enough litter and goes on the floor.

  • lol

  • wow this is really smart, how did you learn how to do this?

  • I learned most of it from the internet! A group on Yahoo! groups called "Cats T-Training" - and then I added my own techniques too.

  • I bet you invented the kitty washing machine

  • This is great. I like the toilet seat over the litterbox idea. That should get them in the right mind set for using the toilet. I will try this!!!

  • Good luck with it! You really must be patient. One of my cats started missing the toilet and the poop is landing on the floor! So even the experts (me, ha ha) can run into trouble. Don't give up.

  • SERIOUSLY THIS WORKS?!

  • can´t wait to see the toilett paper bill xD; i still need to train a toilett paper tree grow.

  • I have to keep the toilet paper hidden! No, not really, but if I leave it on the toilet-paper-holder, they will use it all up and try to put it all down the toilet!

  • may try this! lol...

  • awesome! thanks for the free advice :D

now - have any tips on how to make it flush?

  • LOL, I haven't gotten them to flush. I did see a vid on here that showed the cat flushing over and over and over. So methinks it's better that they never learn how to flush.

  • the part when your cat plays with the toilet paper at the end is adorable

  • wooo now i cant wait to toilet train my cat!!!!!!

  • yay! another convert!

  • Thank you for sharing this. My cat jumped on the seat when I went to go use it...so I guess she's ready for this! LOL

  • the cat looks just like my one

  • That has got to be one of the most Halarious videos I have seen on here yet. You must have had alot of time on your hands. Pretty sick! And the music went good with the video too!

  • That is really amazing. I am toilet training my cat too! Thanks a lot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is one of the best toilet training videos on youtube. You are so good on camera and the music fits perfectly and makes it interesting. =D

  • Thanks wobina! More funny and informative pet videos coming soon!

  • Can't wait! My cats are in the process of toilet training. We just made our first hole in the sitz bath yesterday and used a toilet paper roll as a litter dam. They are doing great so far! I love the yahoo group too.....they've been a great help all along the way.

  • Hi Julie

    How old is your cat?

    'cause mine is 8y old

Isnt him to old to learn it? lol

  • Hi radiozapp,

It depends on your cat of course! Is he a smart cat? Do you and him have a weird crazy bond like I do with my cats? Or does he do 'his thing', and you do 'your thing'? If he is smart and willing and likes hanging out with you doing weird stuff, he might take to Potty Training. You have nothing to lose but your sanity.

  • Wow, that's so cool.

  • I'm so glad I found this video. I've always wondered if I could train my cat. I think this video will be a big help. Thank you so much. Wish me luck!! lol

  • Good luck auntduh13! I really learned everything about it from the Yahoo group, "Cats T-Training." If you get stuck, go ask them. They are great and a major source of info on kitty potty training. Love, Julie.

  • wow! look forward top trying it! (what happens if your cat gets a hold of the toilet paper?)

  • I'm working on a new video: How To Teach Your Cat to Use Toilet Paper!

  • Hi! I'm glad you found the video useful. You will naturally stop using litter when the hole becomes big enough that there isn't room for more than a token amount of litter. Then the cats will be used to not having litter. Do everything slowly, it takes a couple of months. If you go to fast your cat will freak out and poop on the floor! Ha ha ha.

    --Julie

  • hi julie when do you stop using the litter in the sitz bath tho? afetr you cut a hole in it its gonna leak into the toilet . can you shed more lite on this for me. id kill tonot have to change litter boxes any more.
